pickThis was a fun little read. This is a fairy tale retelling of Sleeping Beauty. What if the fairy gifts weren‘t to protect the Princess, but to protect others *from* the Princess? It really is a charming little novella. Give it a go!

The scene setting is unparalleled, as I expected from McKinley, but lord the plot is glacial. I think I would have enjoyed this better as an audiobook as the writing is lush & lyrical. & I wasn‘t invested in the romance. I kept thinking Rosie & Peony should get together.🌕🌕🌕🌗🌑
pickVery in character for me to read a Sleeping Beauty reimagining - the theme for February‘s #fairytalereadingchallenge at the end of March… it kept me company on the train from Canberra to Sydney. I love Alix E. Harrow and this was enjoyable BUT calling girls who love Cinderella best vanilla right at the start. Ouch! The Disney version features the art and colour palette of Mary Blair AND Gus Gus! 😐
Vanilla! Those are fighting words!!!

pickI will only say the ending was a touch anticlimactic but otherwise it was a good read. Very creative and enjoyable I liked this take on the sleeping beauty story. First book I've finished in a while, I feel proud of myself even if it was just a novella.
I felt their children and grandchildren, eager to meet me and see if I was as interesting as their parents had said.
And I felt my Yashaa, bearded and wrinkled, when he pressed his lips to mine.

so-soI thought this was a fun and unique spin on how the story of Sleeping Beauty came about. It did have a bit of a slow start but it definitely picked up. I would give it 3 stars.

pick4.5 ⭐ You know that feeling when you have waited too long to read a really good book. I‘m living that now. I‘ve had Thornhedge since it came out and I already know I love T. Kingfisher. But no, I waited on this. The story that this woman can put in 111 pages. It‘s sweet, it‘s uplifting, it‘s happy, it‘s fascinating. Let the adjectives continue. This is a sleeping beauty retelling that imagines a different villain and a different reason
so-soA short novella. I liked the concept but I wish it would have been a full novel with more character development and world building. A little heavy with themes of sexual assault so be warned before you begin. I loved the feminist themes but it just didn‘t land for me as a great retelling of a Sleeping Beauty story.
