One of her best works! The story didn‘t go all over the place. Would want to read again

I quite liked this latest graphic memoir from Raina Telgemeier. Her memoirs are relatable and yet distinct. I like her art style and visual storytelling.

(My nine-year-old read it the day it came out and has reread it numerous times since. I highly recommend it for the tween set.)

My last few #ImpulseRead picture books for now. I really liked The Good Egg, and the others were alright. #wintergames #merryreaders

Clwojick I really want to read The Good Egg, and The Bad Seed. They look adorable. I love the illustration style. ♥️ 1w
monalyisha I was so disappointed by “A Tiger Like Me”! It was so wordy! I honestly gave up & didn‘t even read the entire thing. 🤷‍♀️ I did like “The Good Egg,” though Mac Barnett‘s “Just Because” was my favorite of the (Goodreads-nominated) bunch. 😊 1w
Butterfinger My little girl loves the good egg. I think I have all the names memorized in order. 1w

Hummmmm. I see why this book shows up on so many best of lists. It uses an egg and cracking as a way to illustrate feeling under pressure because you are trying to be good in a world of people not trying as hard. How do you deal. You take time for yourself and learn what you need to do to keep your shell intact in a crazy world.

This could be a useful book for some young readers. But the treatment of bullying was frustrating. It isn‘t the responsibility of the bullied to “make friends” with their bullies. That‘s something authorities say to absolve themselves of responsibility. Recognizing the humanity of their victims would cost bullies too much. They‘d have to see themselves too. They‘ll say “It was just a joke. Why can‘t you take a joke” instead.

“Place me in a high #stress environment with no ability to control my surroundings or schedule, and I will rapidly begin to decompensate.” #QuotsyNov19

I‘ve never come across ‘decompensate‘ till now. Dictionary.com definition: “to lose the ability to maintain normal or appropriate psychological defenses, sometimes resulting in depression, anxiety, or delusions.”
The part that really got me is where she talks about being high-funcioning ⬇️

TK-421 “I‘m a high-functioning person with an unpredictable and low-functioning illness. I may not be the ‘appropriate‘ type of crazy.” It‘s terrible to feel that way. 💔 Sometimes, being high-functioning really sucks because people can‘t see the inner turmoil. 1mo
