Modest stats for me but I had a reading slump for the first 6 months of the year and hardly read anything.

I'm going to make 2020 #theyearofthechunkster and also aiming to make a decent dent in #mounttbr

What are your main bookish aims this year?

Bookwormjillk Great stats for 6 months! I‘d like to read some chunksters too, but my main goal is to read books from 20 different countries. 4y
julesG Good luck with the chunksters. 4y
Suet624 Reduce the TBR pike. That‘s my main purpose in life in 2020. 😁 4y

Nothing like an 1100 page book to get me out of a reading slump. 😂 And my first Stephen King! My husband and I are reading this together, and he‘s on his THIRD reread of the book, so I figured it was time to read one of his favorites.

Kimberlone This was also my first Stephen king and I‘ve since read several more! 4y
Slajaunie I do not read his horrors but more power to you! 4y
Jadams89 You go! I made it through on audio at 2x speed. The physical book just scares me. 4y

It‘s amazing I haven‘t read this book before. I quite liked it. My mom LOVED the movie—I‘ve seen it a lot. And we all said my uncle (see above) looked like Clark Gable. Scarlett O‘Hara is small but mighty. The author throws in plenty of social commentary with a strong historical perspective. The racism and classism wore on me , though.

Melissa_J I loved this book, but didn‘t like the movie. Your uncle definitely looks like Clark Gable! 5y
DivineDiana Your uncle is a Clark Gable doppelgänger! ? 5y
wordslinger42 He does look like Clark Gable!! 5y

CrowCAH I recently read this and love it just as much as the movie! Neat Uncle picture!!! 5y
Eggs Love the Uncle-Doppelgänger reference!! 5y
Schnoebs When I visited my family in Mexico, I was talking to them about books. They suggested this one by Blair and said it was their Mexican version of Gone with the Wind and very much a classic piece of literature for them. Still currently sitting on tbr though 😂 5y

Very good, I enjoyed Drizzt's story and hope he gets the happy ending he deserves

Violetta I've been a big fan of Drizzt some time ago, but never got to the end, there are more than 20 books in the series! 😅 But the first trilogy was the best. 6y
jfalkens @Violetta 30 plus now lol he's still writing them 😱 it's my first time reading them but my husband likes them a lot 😊 6y
Violetta Oh I've lost the count! 😂 30 plus, wow! 6y

jfalkens @Violetta lol the last one(in the Drizzt series) just came out in September so there might be more in the future. My husband stopped getting them at 28, for The Forgotten Realms series, which is up to 44. 6y
Violetta I've read 6 or 7 and stopped because after the first trilogy they seemed to become quite the same, and I still have this small collection somewhere at home. But they still continue to publish them in Russian, so there are lots of fans! 6y
Foxyfictionista Ah, I remember this cover! I love cheesy fantasy or sci fi covers. 😍 6y
jfalkens @Foxyfictionista I love old fantasy covers too 😊 6y

1. I don't really listen to music anymore so I have favorite songs but no favorite singer or band
2. I'm doing #LitsyAtoZ (2 to go!), #MountTBRChallenge and #theyearofthechunkster
3. I think 6 or so hours but I don't usually keep track of how long I've been reading, unless I'm doing a read-a-thon
4. Rarely, I live in a small town, less then 4,000 people in 2010, we've been here 5 yrs.

All the pages are gone!! 😱😱😱😱 This series was so fantastic and I'm definitely not ready for it to be over!! 😵😵 #LitsyAtoZ #LetterM @BookishMarginalia #MountTBRChallenge #theyearofthechunkster

GypsyKat I‘m looking forward to reading this series, but it‘s such a big commitment that I‘m a little nervous, too! I think I‘m going to start them in the new year, I tend to have a lot of time to read from Jan-March. 6y
jfalkens @GypsyKat it's so good! I was overwhelmed at first and started and abandoned in book four but I loved it so much I bought it(no pressure of due dates) and re-started it from the beginning in Nov(read others too) but seriously started in Dec and finished the first book New Years day. I'm so glad I stuck with it and wish I had stuck with it the first time. I probably would have finished the series a lot quicker but life, 2 book funks(not related to 6y
jfalkens @GypsyKat wheel of time) made it take longer. 6y

GypsyKat @jfalkens I‘m sure I‘ll love it, I even have the whole series already! I just need to start it when I don‘t have a lot going on. 6y
jfalkens @GypsyKat lol that was my problem too! I still have Christmas, birthday, book sale and just new books cause we went to the store books that I'm behind on! 6y
GypsyKat @jfalkens Haha! There‘s always something! 😆 6y
jfalkens @GypsyKat lol if it doesn't put me in a funk 😱 6y
jfalkens @GypsyKat plus we can never run out of to-read books, that's a readers nightmare! 6y
GypsyKat @jfalkens Yes. I‘m definitely going to outlive my TBR. 😂 6y
jfalkens @GypsyKat oh for sure 😂😂 I don't know what's worse tho running out of books or dying before you finish them all #booknerdproblems 6y
booksandsympathy @jfalkens As long as you don't die in the middle of a book. That would be horrible. 6y
jfalkens @booksandsympathy oh gosh! That would be the worst!! 6y
knittedgnome I'm so excited you finished!!! And that you loved them! 6y
jfalkens @knittedgnome 😊 I'm still not ready to move on 😂😭😱 6y

I read Ken Follett‘s thrillers back in the day, but somehow hadn‘t ever started this historical fiction trilogy. I liked the bones of the story and most of the characters quite a lot. Follett‘s actual writing style fell flat for me, though. He‘s a misogynistic writer, typical of his generation. Oddly, it was his main female character I loved the most.🌟🌟🌟

Cathythoughts So interesting to hear your opinion. I keep meaning to start it ... I hear it‘s a page turner... It‘s very long. I‘ve never read any of his books. My son loved this one , one of these days .... So many books .. so little time ! The old story 6y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @Cathythoughts Thanks! You‘ll have to read the whole review for more. 451 characters isn‘t enough!! I did put the next book on hold at the library. So I‘d say these are borrow, not buy books. 6y
Angitron I tried to read this ages ago, but just couldn‘t get into it. 😕 I had someone recommend it to me again recently, and I‘m wondering if I should try again! 6y
Ashley_Nicoletto Great review! This one has been sitting on my shelf for a long time and I'm eventually going to make my way through it. Even if it's just to say I have. 🤣🤣🤣 6y

Graywacke If you‘re anything like me, books 7-10 were serious slow. This one picked up the series again and it carries over through the end. Enjoy! 6y
jfalkens @Graywacke they didn't really slow for me, I was anxious for some arks to be done tho. 6y
jfalkens @Graywacke thank you 😊 I'm nervous but excited to see how it ends 😊 6y

BarbaraJean @Graywacke I‘m with you on that! My husband kept telling me “Just get through Winter‘s Heart... it gets better...” 😂 And 12-14 were fantastic. 6y
jfalkens @BarbaraJean I'm glad to hear they are good after Sanderson joined 😊 I've been nervous of it since the beginning. 6y
Graywacke @BarbaraJean exactly! 😂 6y
Graywacke @BarbaraJean @jfalkens Sanderson did a great job. No worries. It‘s not the exactly Jordan, of course, but it‘s still his story and characters stay true. I think Sanderson was a lucky and maybe perfect fill-in. 6y
Graywacke @BarbaraJean @jfalkens - As a little aside, Sanderson actually posted on LibraryThing about how he was preparing his writing. He posted a little about what he was doing. He came across as a really dedicated to getting it right. (edited) 6y
jfalkens @Graywacke @BarbaraJean I just read the forward and it seems he was the perfect choice. Sanderson was a fan of the series from the beginning(1990) and eagerly awaited the next new book, was crushed when Jordan died and says he wants to stay true to the story Jordan wrote and the notes left for him. 6y
BarbaraJean @Graywacke @jfalkens I was impressed at how well Sanderson matched Jordan‘s writing style. Even to the point that certain annoying writing tics remained, at least here and there! (Pet peeve: if a women crosses her arms, it‘s always “underneath her breasts.”🙄😂) I‘d be interested to know Sanderson‘s process & how much was already sketched out when he stepped in. I definitely got the sense from the foreword that he was committed to Jordan‘s vision. 6y
Graywacke @BarbaraJean i had fun trying to convince myself that I could tell what was Sanderson‘s and what was salvaged from Jordan‘s leftover drafts. 😊 6y
knittedgnome Yay!! So glad they stay good! 6y
jfalkens @knittedgnome lol I'm always nervous it'll the end, I've been burned by series too many times. But so far they have all been 5 stars and I'm 49 pages into The Gathering Storm and it's good so far. 6y
jfalkens @BarbaraJean @Graywacke I got that impression from the forward too! I had heard that Sanderson grew up reading the series(as they came out) and loving the series and it inspired him to become a fantasy author! I feel like if Jordan couldn't complete the series Sanderson was a great choice, from what I've heard from people who've finished the series. I'm 49 pages into book 12 and it was as good as the last 11. 6y
jfalkens @BarbaraJean @Graywacke so far lol I'm really hoping this series stays good. As long as it stays good I could already see from early books(1-3) that it would be a favorite of mine. 6y
