Finishing Pandora‘s Jar gave me the last prompt I needed for #52Books23 - #writtenbyacomedian - which I didn‘t know until I‘d already started it. So, hooray! I don‘t plan to do it again, but I‘m glad I did it this year. I tried a lot of new things and while I didn‘t like all of it (some of it confirmed genres I just don‘t like) it was good to stretch boundaries a bit.

This is a proper North By North-West type Everyman unwittingly caught up in a tangled web of crime story that would be worth reading whoever wrote it. But told in the rambling, surrealist style that Bob Mortimer has made into a comedic art form (I swear I heard it in his voice throughout and I was not trying!) it is an unalloyed delight.

squirrelbrain Great review Carolyn! I bought this for hubby for Christmas (a signed copy) as he loved Mortimer‘s autobiography; have you read it? He was laughing out loud at both books! 2y
squirrelbrain @Cinfhen - I know, I didn‘t realise there was a squirrel on it until I went to pick up hubby‘s signed copy at my local indie! 2y
LaraReads How fun! 2y
CarolynM @squirrelbrain There‘s even a squirrel in the story🤣 I did the autobiography on audio, it was hilarious! 2y
Centique Oh man I have to read this! Bob Mortimer‘s surreal humour just makes me cry laugh 😂 I also loved And Away too. 2y

I may have mentioned before that I've been listening to a lot of celebrity memoirs lately -- well, here's another one!

I don't know a lot of Jimmy O. Yang's work (I've never seen Silicon Valley), but I did watch his stand-up special -- and honestly, that's probably why I didn't enjoy this book more. While it was funny, several of his stories/anecdotes appeared in his special as well. I didn't dislike the book -- it just felt repetitive.

Librarybelle You‘re doing well with this challenge! 2y
squirrelbrain I was just about to say the same thing! @Librarybelle - have you nearly finished, Melissa?! 2y
triplem80 @squirrelbrain 🤣 Not at all! I'm just fortunate that just about everything I'm reading right now happens to fit into a prompt. That probably won't last much longer! 2y

This was delightful, with definite Thursday Murder Club vibes. Richard is a middle aged Brit, running a B&B in the Loire, separated from his wife, and trying hard to blend into life‘s background. A Parisian divorcée Valarie, gives Richard‘s life the kick start it needs. They solve a village mystery, and we meet some pretty hilarious characters along the way. The sweary cleaning lady being a favorite! Funny and silly, and a lovely pallet cleanser.

squirrelbrain I keep meaning to get this as it sounds fun; it‘s been out in UK for some time now. I saw the author on House of Games on the BBC - seemed like a nice guy, and he does actually live in France. 2y

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ I first experienced John Crist (and Trey Kennedy) through their accurate mockery of Nashville Bachelorettes. Look it up! 😂 Crist, known for clean comedy, poking fun at his own religion, and being canceled by people with zero sense of humor nor compassion, lays bare his childhood, comedy career, and vices. A common theme is the social media curation we all cultivate. I appreciate how honest this felt, and he nailed the audio narration.
