⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ King‘s stories that are laden with supernatural elements aren‘t nearly as scary to me as his more realistic ones. A coven of vampire-adjacent creatures are on the verge of dying out. They feed off of a certain kind of rare human. King connects this plot to the original story fairly seamlessly. Getting to know Dan Torrance decades after The Shining was a real treat. Abra is incredible, too.

Years ago, the haunted Overlook Hotel nearly broke young Dan Torrance‘s sanity, as his paranormal gift, “the shining, opened a door straight into hell. Anyone entering the pages of this sequel expecting more of The Shining will likely be disappointed. This isn't about delivering more of the same. Instead, this book examines the concept of legacy - the legacy of Danny's experience on the man he becomes, the legacy of the man his father was, and how it informed Dan's own shortcomings, even the legacy of Dick Halloran taking a young Danny under his wing and teaching him about his gift. 4/5

Finished the shining a couple months ago. Not waiting around this time for doctor sleep.

It took me a month but I finally finished Doctor Sleep! I‘d seen the movie when it first came out so I knew all the major plot beats already, but I did still enjoy focusing on Danny and his journey with alcoholism and recovery. I don‘t think this one is as scary as The Shining (I couldn‘t sleep with that book in my room it scared me so bad), and I could‘ve done without the very unnecessary slurs, but overall it was a good background read. 4/5⭐️

Danny Torrance is all grown up and is trying to put his life together. Which includes not drinking, following the twelve steps, keeping his job and saving a kid from a group of psychic vampires called The True Knot.

Sooooo I‘ve never read anything by Stephen King. I saw this one and thought it sounded good. I‘m about to give it a try during spooky season. Say a prayer for this single Momma 😬

Going to start this today. I have a paper copy of the book on my shelf so I can go back and forth if I want. Today's been a bit of a slow day mentally, but last night I read some comics that were great. +1

🎧 The sequel to The Shining. Surprisingly good book.

I had reservations.

There‘s a bit about Danny & his mom growing up then there‘s a time jump to adulthood on his own & drunk as a skunk due to … the shining.

And boy it takes off from there with callbacks to the original.

I liked this book.

This book was way better then The Shining by a long shot. I really enjoyed the characters and the story way more. There were some parts that I found slow and drawn out. But I was really interested in this story. 4/5 stars

Oooooh I'm such a scare-dey cat. I'll be watching from behind the cushion. Final season episodes of WD, cured me of my zombie phobia that's for sure. 🙀🧟‍♀️🧟‍♂️🙀

This was a really great sequel to The Shining, definitely lived up to my expectations. Seeing little Danny grow into a man with his own baggage was raw and real. I loved all the characters, even down to the side characters that take Dan under their wings when he hits rock bottom and is struggling to find the right way up again. The True Knot were evil, but their family-like unit felt realistic and made them more horrific.

My goals for the #20in4Readathon are to finish the tagged book and start Eaters of the Dead. We‘re driving to visit family this weekend, so hopefully I can get in plenty of reading time on the road. Not sure how much I can squeeze in while there. 😅

I really enjoyed seeing Doctor Sleep, on Netflix! I might have a rewatch of The Shining again this year. -- With a TV episode of Halloween Wars, my favourite pick was the Wendigo cake. 🎃🦌

This book started out SO slow, I would literally fall asleep after 5 pages.I‘ve been reading it for MONTHS! Something kept me hooked, however...and it finally picked up and then I went running with it. I really enjoyed this read. Dare I say I liked it more than its predecessor? Yes, I think so.

Starting doctor sleep anyone else read this and enjoy it. Is it worth my time

I have to say that I had incredible high expectations for this book. Unfortunately, I dismissed King‘s form of writing when developing these expectations. This is a wonderful sequel to The Shining, an insight into Dan‘s development and the aftermath of the Overlook Hotel. I found that the story moved too slow in sections, as it meandered through the important backstory.

I recently reread The Shining. It will always be one of my favorites of his books. How did I not know there was a sequel? I am so disappointed in myself. I just started it last night. I enjoyed the first few chapters, but it‘s too soon to tell which direction it will go.

I am starting this reread of Doctor Sleep this sleepy Sunday. I feel that you either love this book or you don‘t. It‘s definitely not what I expected of grown up Danny Torrance but I enjoy this story nonetheless.
