Admittedly, I enjoyed the first book more than I did this one. I got a little lost, and honestly a little distracted, by all the Greek mythology references—which is really the only reason I‘ve rated this novel a 3 and not any higher. But I know that these are what have made many fall in love with this duology. All in all, This Wicked Fate was equally adventurous as This Poison Heart and a beautiful conclusion to the duology.

Loved this first book in this duology, excited to start the second while I cheer on the Lions. The Packers lost last night which is a bummer, but since I‘ve always had a soft spot for the lions they‘re the ones I‘m rooting for today.

A very satisfactory conclusion to the duology. I really enjoyed all the gods popping up and the roles they took. Plus Roscoe! Bri continues to be a little slow on the uptake but it is YA. I don‘t want to say too much about the ending but it did turn out happier than I expected, but still satisfying.

There is a preview of Bayron‘s next book (unrelated) at the end of this one, which I didn‘t realize was already out, so I need to read that one!

Bk3 of May is done. Loved the conclusion to this mythology/earth magic duology so much! I need to include more BIPOC fantasy into my reading coz this was fabulous. For a YA story there‘s a lot of very heavy themes here including grief & the burdens of duty but there‘s also snark & the power of love. Highly recommend. #BookspinBingo #FourFoursIn23 #Pantone2023 #ReadySetRead

Following on from This Poison Heart, Briseis has the chance to save her mother, but she will have to do the impossible. With help from blood relatives, she learns about their secret powers. She‘s not the only one searching for the impossible, her enemies will not stop until they reach it too.
Bri‘s journey is non stop from start to finish. Her grief is so compelling and tones of sisterhood ran throughout. I loved the mythology and learnt so much!

6th from my #BirthdayHaul is the 2nd in a series I started from an #Owlcrate box 2yrs ago. Bri is an apothecary witch, descended from an ancient line. But to save her mother she has to risk everything to find the last piece of the Absyrtus Heart, but she‘s not the only one searching for it. I thought the 1st book, This Poison Heart, was brilliant, fingers crossed this is too🤞

5feet.of.fury I loved this duology! 2y
SpeculativeFemale I loved it and hope you do, too! 2y

4/5⭐ The exploratory vibe of the first book gave way to the epic journey in this one. I fell deep into the fullness of the world, the families involved and theme of what makes a family, the myths and lore that changed and built over time to the main predicament of this book, and the hero's journey mirrored in the characters' paths. It was a wholly satisfying conclusion to the first book, and I devoured it in only about half a day.

I have a bunch of catching up to do on finished reads.
I loved the sequel as much as the original! Fantastic story mixing mythology, adventure, magic, romance, and lots of strong, kickass, female characters.

Clare-Dragonfly Ooh, I didn‘t know there was a sequel out! I haven‘t gotten around to reading the first. Is it a duology? Maybe I can read the whole thing at once. 2y
staci.reads @Clare-Dragonfly I think it's just going to be a duology. This ending felt complete. Of course, it wouldn't be the first time I was surprised by a series continuing on. 2y

So there‘s something that really bothers me in stories like these. There‘s a romantic story between a teenager and a character who looks like a teenager but is really hundreds of years old. And the connection is played as totally normal and all the other characters are okay with it. It‘s like they‘re saying it‘s okay to be a 300 yr child molester, just don‘t look like one. 😡

Kicking off, sequels that came out this week. I was slightly disappointed in this sequel. I loved the first book so much and it just felt like it took 200 pages to get into anything again. It was a good ending to the series though, I like how it wrapped up everyone, especially Briseis.

4 out of 5 — I fully enjoyed this series. The book continues with Bri trying to save her mother. Everything about this book pulled back layers to myths we all have heard. I will say, I am still aching for a wonderful side character, persephone. I still want a book about “Lou” ‘s family pact & maybe an update about Karter & Hermes. Overall wonderful story telling, easy read, & has HEART.

OMG — these characters are taking me through it right now. Like seriously. This story got me in my feels. Someone should warn folks — the feelings I have is being betrayed, happy, lost, & looking for book 3 or Netflix to pick this up. #magic #wlw #poc #woc #blackgirlmagic #hecate #plantmagic #mythology

The only thing that I didn‘t like was that this was made only to be a duology 😭
🌿🌱🍃🌱🌿
Picks up right from where the first left off. Briseis and her friends &family go on a journey to find the last fragment of the deadly Absyrtus Heart, they encounter -some helpful, some sinister- figures from Greek lore on the way.

Addicting, consistent storytelling with a satisfying conclusion.
But sad that we won‘t be revisiting the Colchis family

Blerdgal_Fenix Yasssss!!!!!!!!!! I glad to see your review!! I am sad because I need there to be a spin off for “Lou” and his family 🖤 I can‘t wait to read this!! 2y
5feet.of.fury @Blerdgal_Fenix so good! I‘d be interested if Bayron revisited the world in a couple years with a spin off and we got waves from some of the main cast of this one! 🌼 maybe if we keep putting it into the universe… 2y

With the completion on this book I officially hit my reading goal for the year! 🎉📚🎉📚🎉 Since it's only July, I'll probably adjust the goal now to 350 since I'll obviously be reading more books between now and the end of the year! 😆

So much love for the second book in this duology! 🌿📚💕 More mysteries to solve, a quest, magic, poisonous plants, and Greek mythology. My only complaint is that it was too short - I tore through it so fast and now it's already over! 😭

Sequel starts practically right where first ended. Jumps right into the story. This was larger book, too, with more going on and more at stake. Felt just short of a mythos lesson. The questions of immortality and what to do with it was well said. Same with the seriousness of all this pain. The end closed it all up very well, with just enough to wonder what‘s next.

Read ‘This Poison Heart‘ and loved it but it is a longer and more drawn out book as it is providing back ground, scene-setting and also telling the first half of a story. With all the world building done already this book can just get on with the story and action. It picks up exactly where the first left off and zips along at a pace. Fun and compelling with great further character development. A satisfying conclusion that feels neat but not easy.
