A shorter read than I remember! I first read this when I was about 15 for my English class, and remember it as being much longer.

Anyway, I loved this book just as much the second time round. A solid 5🌟

RuthyBux @MommyWantsToReadHerBook Same. I had to read it for an English class years ago and loved it. It popped into my head recently so decided to read it again. It's a lovely book 6y
Vikkiha I read this 30 years ago because my mum and all her friends were reading it. Such a powerful story. I love historical books about the lives of ordinary people. 6y

I had great plans to do some work in the garden this afternoon, but the temperature has dropped and it's started snowing! So I'm cuddlin' up with the kitty and Agatha Christie for the rest of the day 📚🐱🍵

TheAnitaAlvarez This is my favorite Agatha Christie ever ❤️ 6y
RuthyBux @TheAnitaAlvarez its sooooo good! I'm not normally one for murder mysteries, but I recently read Murder on the Orient Express and loved it, so decided to give another Agatha Christie a go. I'm hooked on this one 😍😍😍 6y
TheAnitaAlvarez @RuthyBux I used to read her a lot when I was a teen, because my grandma would get them at the supermarket whenever she went shopping, so when I visited her there was always some new books to read 6y

So, I've decided to do the #readingwomen challenge this year. I'm looking for #recommendations for books that would suit the challenge...any ideas fellow #littens?

callielafleur Kelly Link writes amazing and weird short stories! Magic For Beginners is an excellent collection. 6y
RuthyBux Thanks @callielafleur I'll check it out! 6y
Dragon I just finished a great thriller set in the American south 6y

Velvetfur For number 4: a short story collection, how about The Virago Book.of Women Travellers? That's on my bookshelf, on my TBR 😊 And for the one set in Russia or by a Russian author, it would have to be The Master and Margarita! 6y
Fernoppy 4 - anything by NK Jemisin, 20 - the hate race by Maxine been a Clark, 21 - uprooted by Naomi novik 9 - Helen garner, charlotte wood, Hannah Kent, melina matchetta. Kindred by Octavia butler would work as set in the south or as fantasy. 6y
BookishBelle Eudora Welty‘s work was mostly (if not completely) set in the American South. Plus she‘s from here so I feel like you‘d get extra points for that. Lol 6y

I've been offline for so long, but I've been itching to get back to litsy. It's been a busy few weeks with exams, study and dissertation deadlines 😱 But that's all over and done with, and I have a full week off to catch up on my reading 😍😍😍

Looks like I'll *finally* get around to finishing The Tea Planter's Daughter!

Oh my! What a busy few days it's been, I've barely had time to read. I've all the presents wrapped, prepped the turkey, visited friends and relatives so now it's time to put the feet up with a book.

I'll probably be offline for the next 48 hours or so, so I'll take this opportunity to wish everyone a very merry Christmas. I hope everyone gets stacks of books! 😂📚🎆

PurpleyPumpkin Merry Christmas to you too! Enjoy. 🎄💜 6y

I love, love, love this book. As a fellow nature nerd and introvert this book appealed to me in numerous ways. The solitude, the wild places, connecting with nature. Fascinating stuff.

Arguably: Selected Essays | Christopher Hitchens

I always loved the Hitch and his marvellous way with words. I've read most of his books and essays, and regularly return to this collection. It's a permanent feature on my side table.

Such a strong, opinionated and more than a little controversial character. Like him or loathe him you cannot deny his command of the English language. His wit and his wisdom is sorely missed.

5🌟

Cathythoughts I‘ve never heard of or read him. Thankyou for sharing 🙏I love this about Litsy ✨✨✨ 6y

Bonfire | Krysten Ritter
Mehso-so

So I finished this last night. Not a badly written book, it was very readable but I feel the ending of the book was very, very rushed.

Hats off to Krysten Ritter, this isn't a bad attempt for a first book but the outcome of the story was somewhat predictable.

RuthyBux @tournevis Really? My Dad was a massive Tolkein fan, so I suppose I have a sentimental attachment to all things Middle Earth. Glad you liked it, but sorry you didn't love it. 6y

Rebeca | Daphne Du Maurier
Pickpick

This was another recent read from the library, and the first of Du Maurier's books I've read. A very atmospheric story with some somewhat unsettling undertones. While I'll admit I disliked the main character a bit (Rebecca is spineless!), I really enjoyed the story, and it gripped me till the end.

I'm looking forward to reading more of Du Maurier's work.

Wow. I read this first when I was about 15, and while I enjoyed it I don't think I could appreciate the message that Atwood was conveying. I simply read it as a story, and missed the underlying themes.

I reread this again about a year ago, and it hit me like a tonne of bricks. An excellent but often challenging read.

4.5🌟

[DELETED] 3803335244 I liked this book but I felt so much needed to be explained. She needed either a prequel or sequel either would be great! 6y

California: A Novel | Edan Lepucki
Mehso-so

I rad this recently on kindle. The beginning of the story was promising, but I felt it got a bit predictable and slow towards the end. It's not a bad read, and if you're a fan of dystopia then it might be right up your alley.

Wuthering Heights | Emily Bront
Pickpick

I was made to read this book during my final year in Secondary school (high school) for my English exam, and I loathed it.

Since then, I must have read Wuthering Heights a dozen times. Each re-read brings out something new. It has gone from a book that I despised, to a book that I return to at least once a year. I absolutely adore it.

I waited half a lifetime for this book, and I was not disappointed. It was emotional at times, especially when characters from HDM were mentioned or popped up...so many feels 😍

The last few chapters were a little bit odd, so I think this book will need to be reread to see if I can make more sense of it all.

Overall another amazing book by Pullman.
