Thank you @CherylDeFranceschi !
I love my #Cupidgoespostal gift.

I love the bookmark, and I am super excited to read all the books :D

Thank you @BookishMarginalia for setting this up. 😊
My auntie lives in Illinois as well. She is, I think, two hours away from Chicago. Is the bookstore you work at a chain or an independent bookstore ?

CherylDeFranceschi It's an indie. One of a kind! 7y
Toria Neat! Does your store specialize in any genre or is it a bit of everything? 7y
CherylDeFranceschi It's everything. Mostly we're about literary fiction and our kids section is super great. 7y

Super funny. A sandwich has gone missing. The only possible suspect a bear. This story is told from the perspective of a dog to a human in which he explains how a bear came to find the human girl's sandwich and eat it.

KCorter I saw this at the library today and *almost* grabbed it! We'll have to check it out on the next trip. :) 7y
Toria I almost didn't pick it up either @KCorter. I thought it would be similar to A bear went over the mountain so I was a bit hesitant in case it was too repetitive, but it wasn't like that at all. 7y

Mini and her mother find a dog wearing shoes on the freeway. Mini would love to keep him, but first they must search for his possible owner. This was sweet, and I liked the few pops of color in the illustrations. This was definitely a book I'd share with my nephews.

Happy! | Pharrell Williams
Panpan

I didn't care for the song, but thought the book might be different. It wasn't. The book is the lyrics of the song accompanied by kids dancing which is cute, but the lyrics make no sense. It might be a fun book for kids, but sentences like "happiness is the truth" are misleading. It feels as though he is saying you need to be happy, and for some people being "happy" is extremely difficult. (Continued below)

Toria It isn't that easy, and teaching kids not being happy is lying is an insult to people who are suffering 7y

Star Wars: Ahsoka | E. K. Johnston
Pickpick

Ashoka is an amazing character. She wasn't the same as she was in Clone Wars (expected) but her character seemed to have progressed realistically based on what she went through. I loved how Bail was in the novel 💜. He is the reason I am excited for Rogue One. The eventual encounter with the sixth brother was a bit of anticlimactic, but it was super important as a set up for the last like two pages.
I hope more about Ahsoka is written 📚

Pickpick

This was a pretty quick read. There were a few slower paced sections; however, those weren't enough to completely stop me from reading.
Lois is brave and determined, and I liked her character because those qualities could be seen influencing her actions. The other characters seemed a bit flatter.
I am interested in reading more about Lois, though I hope the secondary characters are more fleshed out.

Carrie Fisher is amazing. Though the novel deals with heavy topics, her sense of humor is always present. She has a way of writing that is extremely heartfelt and relatable. I can't wait to read her next memoir!

I finished this one a few weeks ago but it took some time to sort out my thoughts. I had to put the book down for a bit, several times, because the scenes with Maya were too much for me. I was in a similar position with a sibling so it was a bit too relatable.

I did enjoy the art, especially the month banners! I loved Cat and Maya's relationship. I think this would be an interesting way to start a conversation with kids about illness and death

Pete the Cat's Groovy Guide to Life | James Dean, Kimberly Dean
post image
Pickpick

My nephews love Pete the Cat. When we got a new Pete book in, I had to check it out for them.

This isn't a typical Pete story; there is no story line.
It is a series of famous life quotes re-worked to fit Pete's philosophy.

I think it will be a big hit with my nephews. I don't think I'll read it to them in one sitting. I might try breaking it up, like a quote a day. Or maybe we'll even save it, and only pull out the book when advice is needed

This was a very sweet book aimed at children dealing with grief. After her mother's death, Hannah is overwhelmed with responsibility and grief, so she decides to run away.
This would be a great book to help children begin to cope with the changes the loss of a loved one brings.

I love Kevin Henkes!

The plot was simplistic, but still relatable. The artwork was visually calming, which suited the the plot.

The characters weren't anxiously waiting (which is what I do) but were content to enjoy the time they spent waiting with their friends while they bid their time waiting for rain, snow etc.
I read this at exactly the right time. I needed a reminder that time spent not doing anything isn't necessarily time wasted.

It was way more difficult choosing my #3FictionalCharacter than I thought it would be!

Here are the three fictional characters that I think best represent me

1. Princess Addie from The Two Princesses of Bamarre.
2. Pearl from Steven Universe.
3. Sailor Jupiter from the Sailor Moon anime and manga.

All three characters are courageous, helpful, and dedicated to their people, which is what I aspire to be everyday :)

Mehso-so

I enjoyed this quick-read. The transition pages from story to story were a nice touch, as were the minimalistic section pages. The sections on Slughorn and Peeves were my favorites. The Slughorn section made me rethink my view of his character. I've always read his initial refusal to help Dumbledore as a sort of stubbornness and desire to not bring on Voldemort's attention/wrath. However, shame as his motivation, shows his character differently.

MrBook Nice review! And, belatedly, welcome to @Litsy ! I hope you enjoy your time with us 😎👍🏻. 8y
