I've not been on here for aaages! New Year's resolution no.379 - manage social media better & keep in touch with people.
.
I'm struggling to get going with this book, I'm 50 pages in without much trace of a plot. Anyone read it? Is it worth sticking with?

This doesn't read like any other YA contemporary I've ever read. If it was an adult book it would probably be classed as literary fiction. It had a lot to say about identity, family and acceptance (of yourself & others) and the characters are well developed and painfully real (and in need of hugs). I'll be rereading this one for sure.

I really enjoyed it but explaining why is another matter. The romance element was pretty typical YA. I didn't mind the fact it was a bit instalove-y as it felt like a reflection of Vivi's character, not the same old trope - the ending helped, too. Where it excelled was the depiction of mental illness; the narration really captured the energy and growing lack of control.

Enjoyed this, but not as much as the hype led me to believe I would. Cath's anxiety was hugely relatable and I loved all the fandom references. The trouble is I just didn't buy the chemistry of the romance. I was far more interested in Cath's relationships with her roommate and her family. Still worth the read - and it did make me want to read the spin off Carry On.

Without question one of the best books I've read this year. It ricochets from hilariously funny to tackling serious issues to swoonworthy romance in the space of a few pages. Several moments where I was so choked up I couldn't speak. A fantastic cast of diverse characters - Felicity is goals, Percy is an actual ray of sunshine and needs all the hugs. And Monty defies description!

I don't know why I do it to myself. I'm halfway through Our Dark Duet & really enjoying it, then I was without it to hand at a moment of weakness so I picked this up. And now I'm halfway through this too (well, more like a quarter, but ykwim). Also, glare off library plastic cover thing is fast becoming the bane of my life.

I will definitely be reading this when my little girl has finished with it 😊 I wish there was a UK or Europe based bookish subscription box that did MG books - the shipping from the US is too much for us to get these for her often.

This book, the steampunk world & the main relationship were simply magical. The plot wasn't hugely complicated but it built up piece by piece like an intricate clockwork itself. The side characters were well developed, Colton & Danny are precious cinnamon rolls (& Danny definitely goes on the characters-who-need-a-hug list), there was plenty of well-handled diversity & I can't wait for Chainbreaker!

This was an up-all-night read back last August & got me out of a reading slump that had lasted almost a year. There's adventure & intrigue & a web of lies spanning generations, continents & time. Plus romance, which started a little instalove-y but ended up pretty swoony. Oh, and Nicholas Carter 😉

Do you read short stories? If there's prequels or sequels or in-between-quels released for books I've loved I gotta have them. These were very short, but as beautifully written as I'd expect from Renee Ahdieh, & as I'd just finished The Wrath and The Dawn I loved the extra insights - both of these were from Khalid's point of view & there's a 3rd following Despina & Jalal.

🎧 I really enjoyed the setting & atmosphere of this book, which were so vivid & well-developed. The slow build worked, with the plot gradually getting knottier and more dangerous, but the big reveal fell a little flat and some of the characters were hard to warm to. I also found the pacing erratic. Overall, glad I picked it up - 3.5⭐

The third book in this series arrived yesterday & guess who still hasn't read bk2? Spoiler: it me. In fact, I haven't read any of the books in this stack, despite them all being sequels to books I really enjoyed #bookwormproblems

I might make my unfinished series the focus on my July tbr & readathon... but then I'm doing #campnanowrimo as well 😰 What's a bookworm to do?

I didn't read Harry Potter when it first came out - Prisoner of Azkaban was already out when I picked up my little sister's copy of the first book and never looked back. It was the first fandom to really grab me - almost 20 years later it still has a special place in my heart & now I'm able to introduce my kids to the magic too & my daughter begs for one more chapter every night.

3 stars - enjoyable, easy read but nothing special. Some of the characters were a bit too much Drama! Angst! Secrets! and the reveals/flashbacks didn't quite flow with the 'present day'. It also ended a bit abruptly for me - the twist & cliffhanger just didn't gel with what had gone before. If someone handed me book 2 I'd read it, but I wouldn't go out of my way to.

Did I mention I like dystopians? These were all the ones I hadn't read when I took the picture but I've added some more since. And by 'some' I mean 11 😅

Anyone have more favourite dystopians to recommend?

Welcome to another edition of Jamie Was Super Excited For This Book But Still Hasn't Read It 😅
.
I've heard nothing but good things, and I'm supposed to be making more of an effort to branch out with my reading but... I haven't had a single month this year where I've read more than I've hauled, so I don't think this problem's going anywhere soon.

3 months on & I still can't believe this series is over 😭 Def in my all time favourite books, ADSOM grabbed me from the 1st page & they never let go. Everything's so vivid & the characters are so real & flawed & adorable. Plus, y'know, I can never get enough sass. She was an auto-buy author before I finished the first book - I'm expecting heartbreak all over again with Our Dark Duet this weekend.

So I may have done a thing when Owlcrate were selling off their past boxes...

2 books I've really wanted to read, and loads of lovely goodies - I've only put a small selection out here but, but, but.... There were 3 different Rainbow Rowell candles sent out in the April box AND I GOT BAZ AND SIMON 😍😍😍😍😍 From Novelly Yours as well, so I know it'll be perfect

anniekslibrary I still have to read this one🙊 I take it you enjoyed it then? 7y
jrosewordsmith @anniekslibrary OMG yes! One of my fave reads of the year. It's so fast-paced, the world-building is 👌 (I mean, it's got the corrupt unequal society stuff you'd expect from a dystopian but also the whole damn world and everything in it is DEADLY - and probably out to get you) and Orion is firmly into my top 3 fictional girl crushes (behind Lila Bard!) The end let it down a little or it would've been a solid 5⭐ 7y
anniekslibrary @jrosewordsmith That sounds really good! I'll try to read it soon😊 7y

I've skimmed a few pages of this (Bad habit. I've spoiled myself a few times & I still do it) and I'm optimistic it might be on the hit side of my hit-and-miss relationship with #yacontemporary

A cute, quick read with fantastic rep for anxiety disorders and deafness. I loved that it steered clear of so many awkward tropes I find too often in YA contemporaries - no instalove, no love-interest-fixes-mental-health, no forgetting friends & family exist when love interest appears.

MrBook Nice review and pic! And welcome to @Litsy !!! We hope you enjoy your time on here with us 😊👍🏻! Won't find a better bibliophile community than right here, imho. 😎👌🏻🙌🏻 8y
