In this alternate Victorian world, there are clock mechanics responsible for keeping the #Clocks running so time doesn't stop. Unfortunately, there are also mysterious bombings of clock towers that are threatening life in England, and many people think it's one of the clock mechanics.

Can anyone help @TheBookDream with Apps that record time reading that can be used in the #24B4Monday #Readathon. Like many of us TheBookDream has struggled with the iPhone / iPad timer resetting itself. I use Leio to record my reading time but this is tied with the books read. Does anyone know of a good app for recording time that doesn‘t reset itself?

Andrew65 http://leio.co Leio is free initially but there is a small cost to upgrade once so many books are stored on it. Or at least this was the situation when I started using it about a year ago. (edited) 10mo
bookseller_cate One idea is to add a placeholder to Leio and use that “book” for the challenge. 10mo
Crazeedi @Andrew65 I wished there was an app that was free, I would fill up one that only let's you record a few before they charge 🤨 . Isn't Bookly one? And it isn't free after a certain number either 10mo
See All 21 Comments
EadieB I use Stopwatch app and it only resets if you hit the reset button. @andrew65 10mo
Andrew65 @bookseller_cate That‘s a good idea! 👍 10mo
julesG I use a timer and the old-fashioned pen and paper. I time my reading session and write it down. I often accidentally closed the timer/clock app upon ending my reading sessions - you know, after hitting pause. Stupid move! Because then the timer is being reset upon reopening the app. Hence I write it down. 10mo
Andrew65 @Crazeedi I used to use Bookly but after one upgrade it got very clunky and had delays in it. I paid the small amount of Leio and I have been happy with that. In two days I will have been using that for a year. This records Pages Read and books read over a day, week, month, year etc. 10mo
Andrew65 @EadieB Not heard of that one. 10mo
Andrew65 @julesG Can‘t beat pencil and paper! 🤣 10mo
EadieB @Andrew65 it‘s not a reading app it‘s just a stopwatch. I don‘t reset it or keep separate daily times. I just use the stopwatch app. 10mo
Crazeedi @Andrew65 I'll have to check it out, thanks!! 10mo
Crazeedi @julesG I've used my timer on phone, but often forget to stop and start it🙄 10mo
Andrew65 @Crazeedi That‘s my problem more than resetting it. 😳 10mo
Bks4Wrms FWIW I have been using the Leio app for over a year now and love it. The customer service is also very good and the app developer is quick to respond to any questions. For the full version it‘s a one time fee of $4.99 for unlimited books and the backup/export feature. @andrew65 @Crazeedi 10mo
Bookjunkie57 I use TimeCamp. It‘s free. I set up readathon as a project and the books I‘m reading as tasks in the project. I really like the graphs it give me. 10mo
Andrew65 @Bookjunkie57 Don‘t know that one. I will have to check it out. Thanks 👍 (edited) 10mo
Andrew65 @Bks4Wrms Great information, thanks 👍 10mo
Crazeedi @Bks4Wrms oh wow that's not bad then! Thanks for info 10mo
Crazeedi @Bookjunkie57 excellent! 10mo
SquidgetsRoom @EadieB I do the same thing usually. 10mo
TheBookDream I‘ll have to check these out. Thanks! @EadieB I was using the stopwatch app too, and it repeatedly reset the time without me (to my knowledge) hitting the reset button. Granted, it‘s a touchscreen so anything is possible, but it clearly doesn‘t work for me for whatever reason. 10mo

For being forced to leave her, getting fired, and shunned but wow, did Not expect THAT 😮😮😮 I guess all that guilt is what had him helping Danny out?? Tho maybe he was also starting to feel threatened so that's why he butted in saying Danny wasn't well yet 🤔🤔 #amreading

I know, I know, I‘m hopeless. I couldn‘t resist the pun. 😂

I knew very little about the storyline, so was pleasantly surprised by my hands down favorite character, Colton. But I won‘t say any more about why he is so adorably awesome, to avoid spoilers.

Colton's smile return slowly. Denny watched in subdued wonder as strands of golden time threaded across Colton's body, weaving under and around his arms, around his neck, hugging his torso, looping curlicues between his fingers. He wanted to wrap himself around Colton's body, to be everywhere, all at once, and feel the strength and power of him.

Really liked this genre-blending story: steampunk, fantasy, time bending, alternate history with LBGTQ+ themes. But also a story of first love, family, and friendship. Good characters & good world building—and something fresh. Looking forward to next book. 🎧 Audiobook was nicely performed by Gary Furlong. Aw, man, this was exactly what I wanted: magic clocks, dead/missing gods, time-centric shenanigans, families in flux, stories as unifying forces, good people who sometimes do bad things, the changing face of technology, and openly gay boys in love. I'll eagerly await the sequel.

The audio production's good too, even if the narrator does pronounce "shone" the American way (my audio pet peeve). #queerbooks

Blueberry I have to ask (being American) what other way is there to pronounce 'shone' than with a long o and quiet e? ☺ 2y
xicanti @Blueberry we say it so it sounds the same as "Shawn." For years and years, I thought Americans were using "shown" in really weird ways, when the whole time they were just saying "shone." The pronunciation still hits my ear like y'all are saying "shown," though, and I've gotta perform a mental adjustment. 2y
Blueberry Interesting. Where do you live. 2y
xicanti @Blueberry I should add that the Shawn homophone doesn't work with a British accent. A British friend once pointed out that they pronounce Shawn/Sean more like "shorn." They say "shone" same as Canadians do, though, so this narrator's choice especially threw me because he uses a British accent. 2y

I really love the characterization of Daniel Hart. His struggle to control his emotions was so authentic. I was fascinated by his relationship with Colton (😍), Cassie, Brandon, and his mother.
