The follow-up to the hugely popular All Systems RedIt has a dark past - one in which a number of humans were killed. A past that caused it to christen itself "Murderbot."But it has only vague memories of the massacre that spawned that title, and it wants to know more.Teaming up with a Research Transport vessel named ART (you don't want to know what the "A" stands for), Murderbot heads to the mining facility where it went rogue. What it discovers will forever change the way it thinks...

This book is a bit more meditative in nature compared to the first part. It's still full of humor and of an unexpected adventure, and lovely heroes - human and not. The ending is sort of obvious: even if you a Murderbot in a search of answers, finding them won't be any easy and you have to start looking from within.

This was a lot better than the first one. The lack of worldbuilding is a bit of a bummer but I hope the more Murderbot interacts with the world the more we find out.

In the 2nd novella, the rogue SEC unit goes to confront their past, bonds with the artificial intelligence in charge of his transport over their love of media consumption. When I‘m need of an employment contract, Murderbot is forced to take a job helping some researchers get back their files, which quickly gets much more dangerous.
Again, a strange & fun way to present issues like burnout, depression, the illusion of free will.

I just ADORE Murderbot as a character, something so adorable xD

There were some intriguing things happening, and I wanted to see what was going on. Some things got solved, but left me intrigued to know more.

I think I read book one to meet a readathon requirement and enjoyed it. I read this one for the same reason and liked it too. I don‘t typically choose sci-fi on my own, but if I‘m pointed in that direction I do tend to enjoy it.

I don‘t know why I waited so long to read this series. But after finally reading All Systems Red this weekend (and I found the receipt for it dated Aug 2022), I immediately went out & bought the rest of the series. Book 2, just as awesome, maybe even more because of ART. 5⭐️ On to book 3!

The second book in this series did not disappoint! I love the addition and development of the AI character ART (as well as the moniker and the meaning behind it). The further development of the main character's story also pulled me in so much, I ordered the next book the day I finished this one!

Bots keeping each other company. Current anxiety over AI CREATING media (Midjourney, ChatGPT)—SecUnit and ART have skipped creation and are now media CONSUMERS, bonding over their favorite shows. 🤣 “Becoming human.” Good pacing. AI with clear sense of duty makes strong MC. Clever use of security cameras & feeds for description. P65 “Humans are nervous of me because I‘m a terrifying murderbot, and I‘m nervous of them because they‘re humans.” 2018

After gaining its freedom by rescuing its clients, Murderbot decides to travel to the mining colony where it earned its name.
It talks its way into an unmanned research transport that is a bit more sentient than your average vessel. Murderbot and ART form a tentative friendship over soap operas and ART helps Murderbot get answers.

I'm glad I picked up Murderbot's story again. This one was a lot more fun than the first one, I think maybe because I'm now familiar with the world and Murderbot's character. This one follows the journey to try to find out about its past. On the way we meet ART, a bot-driven transport ship who decides to help out. I loved the two's back and forth relationship.

Murderbot, with the help of A.R.T, works on becoming more "human" in this addition to the series. The relationship between the two makes for such a great story. Once again I find Murderbot to be an endearing character with very relatable thoughts and characteristics.

This series has great characters, an interesting world, and the action is just the right amount for the size of the book.

The second Murderbot book was just as engaging and entertaining as the first. Actually, I enjoyed it even more. Murderbot decides to try to find out what happened when it supposedly committed mass murder and ends up taking a private security job. Hijinks ensue (who knew humans could be so self-destructively, monumentally stupid), with more sarcasm and a fantastic transport bot who I hope we see more of in future books. Absolutely delightful.

The second Murderbot novel finds the free SecUnit exploring his mysterious past. I found this one even stronger than the first, probably because of the mystery elements. Murderbot continues to be a fascinating character that this novel develops more fully.

shanaqui For me, this one's my favourite because of ART. 😂 But Murderbot exploring its past and more of the world -- and seeing things that are totally new to it because it's spent so much time just being shipped as cargo -- is really fascinating too. I hope you keep enjoying the series! 2y

In the process of finding out what has been wiped from Murderbot‘s memory, they learn what it‘s like to choose their own clients and how to make friends with a cargo ship AI.

I loved Murderbot so much. So relatable. We get an insight into their past, while also watching them deal with the fact that having the knowledge doesn‘t result in any kind of epiphany or healing. & watching them reluctantly make friends with ART was hilarious. 🌕🌕🌕🌕🌑

I love me some sarcastic media-loving antisocial artificial intelligence bot! And now I have my husband tagging along too!

jeannasser Hey! I‘m so glad you enjoyed it! I have a question. I just recently read the first book and I personally didn‘t enjoy it (I know, unpopular opinion 😭) but does the series get better from there or does it follow along the same infodumpy patterns? I‘m asking true fans of the series because Murderbot as a character intrigues me, and they‘re the only reason why I might give the other books a chance 2y
OutAndAbout @jeannasser if you didn‘t enjoy the first book, I don‘t think you‘d enjoy this one. Murderbot does get more “real”, and there‘s more character development. Not sure about infodumpy, but I‘m betting that was mostly world building stuff which is a little less in the 2nd book. The second is just as short as the first, so it might be worth a try at least to see if you can settle into the story world. 2y
