Who else likes to read while listening to music? I tend to choose a specific artist to be the soundtrack of each book I read...

Soundtrack: Joy Division

Twocougs Such a wonderful book. His memoir Four Seasons in Rome is one of my all time favorite books! 8y

StaceyKondla The only music I can little to is instrumental - if there's lyrics I can't focus on the reading. And I mostly prefer quiet 😊 8y

Anton The Panopticon included a playlist of music the main character listens to. I thought that was a nice touch by the author!

Megabooks I always have the TV on very low if I'm in the house alone. I have 5-6 shows I've seen a bunch of times that don't interest me enough to stop reading. If I'm listening to music, I get distracted and sing along! 8y

lidianams If I don't have music on while I read, I get distracted by every single sound out there. Music blocks my mind and ears to external interferences. 8y

Jamesmelvinmitchell @lidianams I too listen to music when I read cuts out distractions, but I can't have the tv on to distracting for me. I admire you or being able to do it @Ebooksandcooks thanks for the tip @Anton 8y

AThousandLives87 I listen to soft music or even classical when I read it helps drown out the world. But anything too loud is distracting for me. 8y

Texreader Yes! But it's so very strange even years later when I hear certain songs I still think of the book I was reading when I would play the songs over and over...a pretty neat sensation actually. Der Kommisar reminds me of Winds of War & War and Remembrance, which I read in high school decades ago. 8y

Spiderfelt Absolutely! It is strange how some music may have nothing to do with the book, but is so evocative to the feeling created by the book. Some authors, like Murakami, reference music in their work, so I like to look those up while reading. 8y

MrBook I love to play music while I read. Depends on the material being read. Classical or New Age work well most of the time for the lack of singing, but some singing is okay if it's intended as background music anyway, such as with jazz. 8y

Fantastic is not enough to describe this book! I was wrong when I thought Americanah was a masterpiece! Half of a Yellow Sun is even better!

Looking forward to reading the entire work of Ngozi Adichie! Such a spectacular author!

Hestapleton Adichie is an incredible writer. Half of a Yellow Sun blew my mind. I'm reading Americanah soon and I can't wait! 8y

Abi1 I enjoyed both but have to say Half of a Yellow Sun came out on top for me. Have Purple Hibiscus on my tbr pile at the mo, so can't wait to get stuck in to that one 8y

IndyHannaJones I passionately love Madame Bovary. There's a great article somewhere that Margaret Atwood wrote about it, stating that is is actually less about the title characters wanton sexuality and more about the rise of the middle class and the lack of good sense with money. 8y

About 4 years ago, I bought "Killing Bono" because I like Neil McCormick. But I had never opened the book til today. I thought: "Should I give it a try?". So, I decided to open on a random page. This was exactly where I opened! Any doubts I will be reading it right away?! #Bowieforever

There are so many great reviews out there for this book... But I just don't feel connected to it... Does it start slow and then gets better or it goes on the same pace until the end?!
