Nominated for the Anthony Award Ashley McKenna is a blunt instrument. Find someone, scare someone, carry something; point him at the job, he gets it done. He generally accepts money upon completion, though a bottle of whiskey works, too--he's comfortable working on a barter system. It's not the career he dreamed about (archeologist) but it keeps him comfortable in his ever-changing East Village neighborhood. That's until Chell, the woman he loves, leaves him a voicemail looking for help--a voicemail he gets two hours after her body is found. Ash hunts for her killer with the grace of a wrecking ball, running afoul of a drag queen crime lord and stumbling into a hard-boiled role playing game that might be connected to a hipster turf war. Along the way, he's forced to face the memories of his tumultuous relationship with Chell, his unresolved anger over his fathers death, and the consequences of his own violent tendencies. NEW YORKED takes you deep into the seedy underbelly of New York with an unforgettable literary voice steeped in the classic noir tradition, and a glimpse at a city disappearing right before our very eyes.

12-10-22: My 124th book of 2022! I will read anything about New York! Ash McKenna is an amateur PI living a rough life among the denizens of the East Village. Having lost his father on 9/11, Ash has a chip on his shoulder he can‘t shake. Enter Chell, the girl he loves who doesn‘t love him back. When something heinous happens to her he makes it his mission to solve the crime. It was a violent story but there is a lot of heart too. Book 1 in series

Alright, Littens! Today I‘m having a series of meetings in #NJ and now #NYC. If I have time, I‘ll show you my favorite #readingspot in the City, it‘s close to here! 😁

“Here” is Columbus Circle. FYI: it is from this spot where the “New York Metro Area” spans for a 12-mile radius. This is the exact center of it all!

Anyway, stay tuned! 😁

MrBook @RaimeyGallant Do you live in NYC? 7y
RaimeyGallant @MrBook No, this my disguised attempt to recognize 911, though I will be there for half a day in a couple of weeks. My mom and I are will be touring DC, and she wants to take a day trip to NYC. I'm pretty sure you live there though. 7y

NYC book haul!! If I have to pick a favorite, it's the copy of Winnie the Pooh that I picked up in The Strand's rare book section 😍 Also couldn't resist showing off my signed Playbills. Best. Trip. Ever.

Hello to New Yorkers!

I'm traveling to the US this May. I'll definitely go to New York but still considering visiting other states since I have 2 whole weeks for this trip.

I'd like to ask for some suggestions about bookish travel sites that should not be missed. You know, apart from usual tourist attractions. Other states are also welcome since I'm still planning.
I appreciate all your opinions! 😊

And perhaps, we might meet there. 😉

[DELETED] 1409720085 You must go to The Strand bookstore in NYC. 18 miles of books! 8y
pppooraikul @emilydecato It sounds like heaven! I've seen everyone has been talking about that bookstore. I'll go there for sure. 😊 Thanks! 8y
youngreadrshelf A friend does walking tours in NYC about Dorothy Parker and the Algonquin Roundtable. If that's something you are interested in. 8y

beaniebankbeth What time in May? Early? Late? Either way, I highly suggest New Jersey, my home state. The southernmost point is Cape May, a historic city that's like traveling back in time to the Victorian age. It's also a shore town, so you can see the beach. I live just outside of Philly, which is worth a side trip, a little more than an hour from NYC and a world away. 8y
BookBabe I was going to recommend The Strand, but I see @emilydecato already has! There's also The Mysterious Bookshop, complete with rolling ladder; small but charming and the owner will hand-pick books for you to read. And McNally-Jackson, where they have a very cute, very bookish cafe, and they print books on-site! If you like meatballs, eat at The Meatball Shop (it's a restaurant). Any other suggestions, @MrBook ? 8y
readinginthedark If you want to come all the way to Missouri, there's a museum where Laura Ingalls Wilder lived in Mansfield and a lot of places in Hannibal are dedicated to Mark Twain and Tom Sawyer! Long way from New York, though! 8y
Centique I'm copying these for my next trip now! Great question! 8y
megt If you can fit it in, definitely try to visit the Boston Public Library. It's a beautiful building and they run some art and architecture tours, too! 8y
pppooraikul @youngreadrshelf That sounds really interesting! I could do some other authors as well. 8y
pppooraikul @beaniebankbeth Early May, maybe the first two weeks of May. And it sounds nice. Can I get there by public transportation? 8y
pppooraikul @BookBabe I've heard lots about The Mysterious Bookshop too! I'll definitely check them out. Any good place to eat burgers? ;) 8y
pppooraikul @readinginthedark Is there a public transportation to Missouri? I still have't decided on renting a car yet but still thinking if the trip's worth it. 😁 8y
pppooraikul @Centique Yeah! Litsy does have everything you need. 😊❤ 8y
pppooraikul @megt Boston is one of my choices too! Is there other place in Boston (bookish or not) worth a night stay? 8y
MrBook @pppooraikul You and @BookBabe and I should definitely meet up 😊👍🏻! Unless you don't like that idea. 8y
pppooraikul @MrBook @BookBabe Of course we should! I'd love to meet you guys. It'd be awesome! 😊😎 8y
BookBabe @pppooraikul I adore 5 Napkin Burger. 🍔 The one at 44th & 9th is the one I frequent. I love their decor, and the food is soooo exquisite. • If you want to try a Kobe Beef burger, the Old Homestead has them, for about $40 or so. • I've heard great things about burgers at Shake Shack, but I haven't tried it yet. 8y
pppooraikul @BookBabe Wow, thanks! There are a lot to choose from. I can't wait to try some. 😋 8y
MrBook @BookBabe Naaah, @pppooraikul should try The Meatball Shop. No tater tots, but maybe someday. 8y
pppooraikul @mrbook @BookBabe Lol. 😂 Maybe I can try both. 8y
readinginthedark @pppooraikul No, if you don't want to rent a car and drive for a day, it would cost a pretty penny to catch a train or an airplane down here. 😕That's why I haven't seen my cousin in NY for a long time. 8y
pppooraikul @readinginthedark Sorry to hear that. The US sure is bigger than I thought. 😂 8y
readinginthedark @pppooraikul Yeah, I bet it's a shock when you're not used to it! I hope you have a great trip! 😊 8y
pppooraikul @readinginthedark Thank you! ☺ Still have months to prepare, though. 8y
megt @pppooraikul I think so! There are lots of tours (walking or by trolley or duck boat). Most well known is probably the Freedom Trail, but there are tours for architecture, history, food, and more. If you Google walking tours Boston you'll find info on the different companies/tours. There are also lots of great museums, shopping, and restaurants! 8y
pppooraikul @megt Whoa! Thank you for the info. I'll definitely check it out. 😊 8y
RaimeyGallant Did you do anything off the beaten path? I'll be there for a day in a couple of weeks. NYClove (edited) 7y
pppooraikul @RaimeyGallant I visited The Strand, Barnes & Noble (I don't have it in my country), NYC Public library and many of its branches. I ended up filling half my suitcase with books. Lol. Haven't had much time to explore anything else as much as I wanted to. But it's sufficient -- until next time. ;) 7y
RaimeyGallant I think my backpack would protest. ;) My back for sure would. 7y
