I seriously struggle with Pic Collage. Maybe it‘s because I do it on my phone. The book cover are too big or too small. I can‘t get them just right and my background moves…arghhh. Anyway here‘s my pics so far.

Amiable I have the same problems. 😖 12mo

RebelReader @Amiable I‘d never read him, but I have The Cartel and have ordered The Border and The Force so I guess I‘m a big fan already too! 😀 12mo
Amiable @RebelReader I actually met him at a reading he did in Rhode Island last fall. He‘s just as cool in person as he comes across in his books. 😎 12mo

This is not my usual genre, but this book was so good, brutal, but brilliant. My first Don Winslow, but not my last! The Cartel is on my list for April #bookspin!

Another great Kindle deal today. This is the first book in one of the greatest trilogies EVER. I cannot sing Don Winslow's praises enough. An auto-buy author for me!

I am a mystery to myself. This book is SO NOT my thing. It is drugs and organized crime and guns and torture and the writing is nothing to celebrate, yet... I keep reading one more chapter and I am well into it now. This is a first ( and probably the last) for me but I‘m surprised to say that I‘m sorta enjoying it. 🤷‍♀️

Stupendously readable, if brutal, account of the Mexico-US drug trade from the Reagan years on. Winslow has been compared to James Ellroy and Don DeLillo in his ambition, but despite its complexity the reader never gets lost or baffled despite all the twists and turns, double-dealing and treachery. There's also a barely concealed fury at the human cost of the nonsensical "War on Drugs". Just great.

Melissa_J I also read this book this year. It was excellent. Can‘t wait to read The Cartel. 5y

This was a re-read for me, in anticipation of the final book in the trilogy which is being released this month (The Cartel is book 2). Don Winslow is a master of crime thrillers. The research he put into these books is remarkable. I had the pleasure of seeing him on tour for one of his other books (“The Force”, also AMAZING) and I highly recommend going to see him if he comes to your area on his upcoming tour. LOVE this series. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

My W book in #LitsyAtoZ crime was overwhelming in the sheer force and brutality of some of the storytelling but gosh it was good. Set over 20 yrs it tells the tale of drug wars in mexico, the us interference in central & S America, + drug smuggling. Art keller is a dea officer battling the barrera brs with lots of victims physically emotionally and ancillary brilliant characters from ny gangsters to prostitutes + priests. On to 'The cartel' asap.⏬

andrew61 P.s a warning the book is very violent so not for everyone, and if you like james ellroy id recommend - but as i say definitely not for everyone. 5y
Amiable Great book--the writing is phenomenal 5y
andrew61 @Amiable yes, I've just seen that book 3 is out next year - I'll have to read book 2 soon so i don't forget all the plot twists and characters. 5y
Amiable Having read book 2 this year I'm wondering where he could possibly go in the storyline with a third. Huh. 5y

Gosh i am loving my first foray into Don Winslow's stunning crime fiction. Hallway in i have me so many characters who are definitely suitable for this description and this paragraph at the end of part two is following an incident when a character sacrifices a safe future after he is drawn back into a psychopathic existence.

Amiable Great book. The sequel is equally stunning. 5y
andrew61 @Amiable oh great i will definitely want to read it. I the third book is due out soon as well. 5y

Just finished “The Power of the Dog” and I LOVED it!! Absolutely 5 stars! Winslow was so creative and powerful with his writing and choice of words, I truly felt like I was reading actual history about the drug wars in the ‘80‘s and ‘90‘s! Picking up his sequel “The Cartel” tomorrow!! I would no doubt read this book again in the future! If you‘re interested in history, crime, corruption in politics, and drug wars, it‘s a must read!! 👏🏼😍

wintercherry I‘m halfway through and enthralled. I have a copy of Cartel ready and waiting. Last yealr I read The Force and it was my favourite book of the year. If you haven‘t read it you must! 6y
AshD16 It was incredible!! I could not put it down! I am actually on my way to pick up a copy of Cartel now! lol. And I will have to check it out!! Is it also written by Winslow? 6y

Drugs, violence, corruption-rinse, repeat. I read book 2 (The Cartel) before this. Both are equally amazing and powerful. Book 2 concentrated mainly on the cartels of Mexico, this book focused on NY, MX, Columbia, Honduras and China. I hope book 3 of this series is out soon. Don Winslow can write characters that you can empathize with. Yes, even drug lords.

Bookish_B I read The Cartel too. It was great but probably had the highest body count of any book of I've ever read! 😳 8y
