pickReading this, I was impressed with Martin‘s turn of phrase, how he captured both humor and pathos in a single event. It is a light entertainment, a quick read. I was reminded throughout of his film L.A. Story as I read this. Not great literature, but a fun reading confection.

pickA quick read that you expect to be silly and funny, considering the author, but is instead a really thoughtful look at a young woman. The writing is very advanced and was more than I expected.
#31bookpics #movieadaptation Day 6 Shopgirl is one of my favorite movies. There is some awkward humor a la Steve Martin, but it really has a serious storyline. It has one of the best portrayals of depression I‘ve seen. And the narrator‘s quote at the end of the movie stays in my brain for days after watching (can you tell that I like the movie better than the book?)
A good book and cold beer from a local taproom... What more do I need? Cheers to the weekend, Litsy friends! 🍻

• I read this ages ago; don‘t even have a date on Goodreads for when I first read it. I‘m listening to the author this time and while it is a quiet little story, it has its amusing and touching moments. And of course, a little humor bc Steve Martin! He does drama well but there‘s always some humor in the mix—every day humor, the life stuff that is so absurd it‘s funny •

#aprilbookshowers I finished 4 books in April and I have to say I really enjoyed them all but I guess one stand out would be Steve Martin Shop Girl. I always feel smarter after reading his books.
pickI highly recommend this book. This is the 3rd book I've read of Steve Martins and the character are unique and yet relatable. He finds a away to express so much in less than 200 pages. It's just soul reading satisfaction 😊
