Today starts the #JoysofJune #readathon with @Andrew65 leading the way! I‘m trying to be conservative in my goals, as we are having some carpet replaced on Monday so our house (and life) is upended (all my poor bedroom books are in boxes!). Today is also my 17th anniversary. With that in mind, I want to keep up Old Friends, New Fancies; read Magic Claims; and start something else from the one stack I didn‘t pack (#bookspin).

Andrew65 Congratulations, Hope you have a great anniversary 🥳 Good luck with the Readathon.😁 10mo

Mitch That sounds a great idea - step one might help keep a positive mindset in itself ♥️ 3y

curiouserandcurioser @TheBookHippie i have a gratitude journal that has changed things for me and given me a focus on my blessings when it is a tough day:) 3y
rockpools Love this idea. 3y
TheBookHippie @curiouserandcurioser I did that for years -it unfortunately was not a good fit for me as it was tied to religious abusiveness. I do journal every day and have for 40 years 😳 I also write -which is extremely therapeutic I highly recommend it. I think during the pandemic and being stuck in the house since March I need to purposely do Joy things 🤍🤍 for sanity 🤪🤣🤣🤣🤣 3y
curiouserandcurioser @TheBookHippie im sorry:( journalling is such a good thing, too, and i always think doing joy things is a great thing:)❤ 3y
TheBookHippie @curiouserandcurioser I have found mentoring for the past decades and in my own life telling people to be grateful is way more harmful than good. Doing things that bring you joy and making sure to do so seems way more healthy to me in my altruistic hippie world. 3y
curiouserandcurioser @TheBookHippie oh, im just about my gratitude journal for myself personally-i would never want to force that on anyone bc i want to be mindful of always being respectful:) and i agree that doing things that bring you joy is always a healthy choice! 3y
TheBookHippie @curiouserandcurioser Oh, I know. I think it is wonderful you can do it. I have a friend who thinks of three things before she gets out of bed everyday and three more before she goes to bed. She swears by it as helping her out of her pessimism way of looking at life. My mantra has always been find the joy, which with my name I kinda have to! HAHAHAHAHA. 3y
curiouserandcurioser @TheBookHippie it is a good mantra-i am all about the joy-and you are right -with your name you do kinda have to hahaha!!:) 3y
Blerdgal_Fenix Just screen shot this so I can do this. 2031 is going to be filled with JOY 3y

I am having the hardest time reading. I spent a week with family and friends in Boulder and the Chautauqua cabins at the base of the Flatirons to celebrate the marriage of my son and new daughter-in-law. There are no words to describe the joy and love that surrounded the 150 who attended. I feel as though I was in heaven and have now crashed down to earth. I want to be on permanent vacation with all of my loved ones.

JoScho What a beautiful couple! Congrats! 5y

Suet624 @vivastory Proud? Not sure that's the right word. :) I'm just so darn happy to have this wonderful woman in our life, happy that my son has so many loving, tender friends, blessed to have had such a wonderful experience. (But I know what you mean...)
5y
Suet624 @Cortg I hope you can find some quiet time this weekend. 5y
Reggie How were the toasts? And did you cry? And was there a person in attendance no one could explain? Congrats, Sue!! 5y
Suet624 @Reggie I gave a toast on Friday night that had people crying. Louie's twin gave a speech on Saturday that had people laughing hysterically and crying at the same time. There was a very tender moment involving the bride's brother who has Down's Syndrome that had everyone crying. (It involved the three of them exchanging leather bracelets so he was now officially married to two people he loves deeply.) There was one person dressed all in black!?? 5y
Reggie That‘s so sweet about the brother! 5y

My favorite novel to reread this time of the year. “ May our world inch closer to charity and kindness and peace. To love. Merry Christmas, my friends, Merry Christmas.

Pickpick

#Froedrick #Igor and I just finished off The Joyous Season. It was silly and funny, but not really a holiday story. It‘s a great look at family disfunction from kids point of view. The six year old, Missy, is the funniest, with her sailor‘s language and joking nature. I‘d call this between a pick and a so-so, leaning more towards pick.

GondorGirl Once again, your cats are my favorite things on the internet. 😻😻 6y

I‘m feeling the season today! With all the #ssgp posts and it being the last day of work before the long weekend and Xmas parties at work and this evening, yay!
I‘m looking forward to finishing this book today. It‘s been fun but not quite what I was expecting.
Also I expect to finish Ship of Destiny on audio on my work commute. That‘s been an amazing fantasy trilogy recommended for me by @Liberty and I‘ve loved it!
Happy Friday!

JanuarieTimewalker13 I took Joyous Season out of the library last year, but never read it. Can‘t wait to see your review! Maybe will take it out again next year! 6y
Soubhiville @JanuarieTimewalker13 it‘s from the point of view of a very smart little boy who knows he‘s very smart, and his viewpoint on his parent‘s separation and the shifting relationships in his family are adorable and hilarious and also kind of sad. I‘m really liking it though! 6y
ElishaLovesBooks That fantasy series looks great! Stacked! Thanks! (edited) 6y
JanuarieTimewalker13 Ok, great!!! Thank you!! I hope I remember to get this out next year! 6y

Starting The Joyous Season tonight! I heard about this book at TBF when @ChrisBohjalian recommended it, and have been meaning to get to it for over a year. Well, ‘tis the season!
#Sietje is sleepy after a lunchtime play date with her friend Pippin.

My_novel_obsession I ❤️this book! 6y
Soubhiville @Anovelobsession that‘s good to hear! So far the precocious 10 year old narrator is cracking me up! 6y

One of my favorite Christmas books from childhood: my lovely bride one year found a first edition and placed it under the tree. Even better than I remembered. Read the whole story of my love for this novel on my blog. #amreading #books #christmastree #christmaspresent #patrickdennis

Pickpick

This story is told by a ten year old boy. His family consists of a younger sister and his parents. They reside in New York City. The parents are headed for divorce. When you add the other family members you have tale that has plenty of things to chuckle about.

Usually I reread this laugh-out-loud funny novel much closer to Christmas. But I could certainly use a few yucks this week, so I am starting to re-read it tonight. (This is the first edition my lovely bride gave me for Christmas one year, knowing my love for the book). Thank you, Patrick Dennis.

JanuarieTimewalker13 Oh cool!!! This is THE Patrick Dennis Of Auntie Mame fame!!! I still have to read that book! 7y
