Further Adventures of Ebenezer Scrooge: A Christmas Carol Continued
Further Adventures of Ebenezer Scrooge: A Christmas Carol Continued | Charlie Lovett
20 posts | 13 read | 28 to read
A delightful sequel to Dickens s beloved A Christmas Carol by the bestselling author of First Impressions and The Bookman s Tale Charlie Lovett s new book, The Lost Book of the Grail, will be available from Viking on February 28, 2017. On a hot summer day some twenty years after he was famously converted to kindness, Ebenezer Scrooge still roams the streets of London, spreading Christmas cheer, much to the annoyance of his creditors, nephew, and his employee Bob Cratchit. However, when Scrooge decides to help his old friend and former partner Jacob Marley, as well as other inhabitants of the city, he will need the assistance of the very people he s annoyed. He ll also have to call on the three ghosts that visited him two decades earlier. By the time they re done, they ve convinced everyone to celebrate Christmas all year long by opening their wallets, arms, and hearts to those around them. Written in uncannily Dickensian prose, Charlie Lovett s The Further Adventures of Ebenezer Scrooge is both a loving and winking tribute to the Victorian classic, perfect for readers of A Christmas Carol and other timeless holiday tales."

I finished this sweet novella on Christmas Eve. It takes place during the Summer Solstice, but Scrooge enlists the help of the Christmas spirits to help his friends and family become more charitable. Lovett does a good job channeling the feel and cadence of Dickens.

I was a little too excited to start reading for #WinterGames2020 and finished one of my #Bookspin books 🤦🏼‍♀️.Scrooge has kept Christmas in his heart since his visit from the four ghosts many years before, but he‘s only one person and the needy are many. This time, Scrooge is the one changing hearts.

Anybody else start a book, only to read a few pages and realize you read it before? Yeah, I read this last Christmas. Liked it. Moving on to new holiday fun.

SaturnDoo Yep!!! That's why I have trouble rereading books. 5y

Yeaaaaa met my goal yesterday! I still have 3 books going and I have a 4th that I would love to get to before 2018 as well, so I won‘t be doing any stats or faves of the year yet. I had a goal of 100 books last year and met it, but I had to read 10 books in December. That was a little too much for me. 90 is much more manageable. Since I have no idea what I‘ll be doing next year in terms of job, I‘ll be starting with a low goal & upping as I go.

Katiesbookishlife Yay for reading goals! I still have 10 books to go to reach my goal this year, trying to choose some short titles to get me there ! (edited) 7y

I read this charming little book in 2 sittings this afternoon—the 1st sitting was while enjoying a coffee at Barnes & Noble & the 2nd was while curled up in my chair. This is set 20 years after the events of A Christmas Carol. Scrooge celebrates Christmas every day of the year, even on June 21st. He solicits the help of Marley & the 3 spirits to teach his nephew, Bob Cratchit, & his bankers why Christmas is so important for the good of humanity.

@PirateJenny I picked up your package on my way out of town to visit family and I‘m extremely impatient so I just had to open it when I got to my hotel room. You are the most amazing human being ever! You know me so well and even though I hadn‘t heard of any of these titles, they all look amazing! I am speechless at your generosity. I hope you enjoy your presents as much as I do. #litsypenpals

PirateJenny The chocolate is from the best place. They have a store across the street from the office. I tried to pick books I think you'll like based on stalking your fb and Goodreads 😊 7y

Oh no, a friend just pointed out to me that I missed this year‘s Scrooge Festival in the Dutch town of Arcen which is only 30 minutes from where I live. They host this every second year and it‘s basically a Dickensian Christmas market with carol singers etc. I‘m so bummed I missed it. It‘s definitely on the list for 2019. 😊

CoffeeCatsBooks Wow, looks great! 7y

Sarah83 Are there two in the Netherlands? 🤔 I was there two times aswell, but I think we drove nearly two hours. There is another Dickens festival in Germany this weekend. Might be an alternative? 7y
Heideschrampf I'm surely in for 2019! I saw liobas pictures on facebook and was super jealous! 7y
scripturient @Sarah83 There is another one in Deventer. Maybe you went there? @julesG There is one in Blombergen this weekend. That‘s close to you, right? 7y
julesG @scripturient Blomberg? Yes, pretty close. Hmm, let me think. We could squeeze that in between studying for an English exam at school. Thanks for letting me know. 7y
Sarah83 Yes it would be Deventer. 😍 I wanted to go to Blomberg with the bus this year too, but the travel is cancelled. So I travel to Rothenburg. 😉 7y

Mehso-so

This story was a cute sequel to A Christmas Carol if a bit lukewarm. It's a quick read about what happened to Ebenezer Scrooge after being visited by the ghosts that changed him. It's like the original in that a lot of the original characters make an appearance, with the twist that now it's up to Scrooge to help others change their ways and help his former business partner. 🎄🎩☃️👻

Braved the cold, somehow managed to avoid SantaCon, and made it back to my nice warm blankets with my new library #bookhaul. Because tis the season to stay inside and read all the things.

abbiereadsbooks SantaCon?! 8y
Dorianna @abbiereadsbooks A bunch of people dress up as Santa and elves and get wasted at the bars. Somehow it's for charity, so I guess it's well meaning. but I never quite got how it connects to charity. I try to avoid being near the event after one night working late my route home was delayed by a drunk Santa walking on the train tracks. 8y
abbiereadsbooks @Dorianna That makes a lot more sense than what I thought! My initial assumption was a convention of mall Santas/Santa impersonators. 😆 8y

#TBRtemptation post, #Christmas edition! Well, I'll be naughty & get some coal, check this out! Ought to be an interesting little read ?. This sort of thing never crossed my mind with Scrooge; other characters, sure, and widely & popularly done, but Scrooge never crossed on my mind. I definitely want to know what happened after "A Christmas Carol", and so do you, I can see it in your eyes: that yearning to know. #blameLitsy #blameMrBook ?

Hobbinol Charlie Lovett is another one of our local authors here in Winston-Salem. He is a true bibliophile and is chair of the local book festival. He is a wonderful writer and he wrote a great article about "Finding Alice's Wonderland in Oxford" for the NYT (as well as some terrific books).?? 8y

It's not often that you find something both so similar and so different from a beloved classic, but this pulls it off! Everything you love about Christmas Carol, but all new! Dickens could have written it himself. Lovett's attention to detail brings new life to these classic characters and continues to shine light on the social issues present in the original story. (Grabbed this pic off the author's Facebook, but I wanted to use something good.)

MrBook Nice! 😊👍🏻 8y
