Finding Fraser
Finding Fraser | K. C. Dyer
I met Jamie Fraser when I was nineteen years old. He was tall, red-headed, and at our first meeting at least, a virgin. I fell in love hard, fast and completely. He knew how to ride a horse, wield a sword and stitch a wound. He was, in fact, the perfect man. That he was fictional hardly entered into it. At 29, Emma Sheridan's life is a disaster and she's tired of waiting for the perfect boyfriend to step from the pages of her favorite book. There's only one place to look, and it means selling everything and leaving her world behind. With an unexpected collection of allies along the way, can Emma face down a naked fishmonger, a randy gnome, a perfidious thief, and even her own abdominal muscles on the journey to find her Fraser? What people are saying about FINDING FRASER: "Jamie Fraser would be Deeply Gratified at having inspired such a charmingly funny, poignant story--and so am I." --Diana Gabaldon, author of the New York Times Bestselling OUTLANDER series "I loved this book. It transported me to a Scotland I wished I'd grown up in. Everything about it is a delight, and it's all authentic-the environment, the characters, the dialogue and the sheer enjoyment of it all." -- Jack Whyte, best-selling author of, most recently, THE GUARDIANS OF SCOTLAND series "Finding Fraser is an absolute must-read for any Outlander fan. The story is both hilarious and romantic, as well as guaranteed to have readers turning the pages until the wee hours to discover if the heroine finds her very own Jamie Fraser." -- Laura Bradbury, author of the best-selling MY GRAPE ESCAPE series

I rarely bail on a book but I‘m quitting this one at 56% on this one. Narrator‘s voice is wrong for the heroine, the sister character is cartoon-awful, and I‘m just bored. Such a bummer because I‘d been looking forward to this one for a while 👎🏽

This book is really disappointing. Fun idea if you're an Outlander fan but the main character was annoyingly naive, not in a cute way and the writing was not good. 30 yrs old, from Chicago, and not a shred of commonsense. Goes on a quest to follow Claire's path in Scotland to meet her own Jamie, gets into these weird, cringy situations that I found more annoying than charming. Gave up on finishing it. Hoped this would be fun but it wasn't.

Some of this was a really cute story, but the fact that our MC seems to define herself by her relationship to men (to the extent that she allows a boyfriend to completely play her) really bugged me.

3. The story is long, but the short version is: camping trip, friend set us up, he kept disappearing, he was making rude comments, other guys asked if I wanted him thrown in the lake, I got all the s‘mores I wanted, he asked another girl to stay in his tent (which I was happy about, but he said I had to stay with them too so he “wasn‘t tempted”), they started dating the next day 👇🏻

AsYouWish They said they waited out of respect for me (hahaha), they then proceeded to have the grossest relationship I have ever seen, he made more rude comments for the next few months. It was horrible, but for the record I never liked him and did not want to go on the date with him, I was pressured into it and I ended up earning the respect of a lot of people for the way I handled the situation, so I guess it wasn‘t all bad and I can laugh about it now! 5y

I needed a palate cleanser after The Poisonwood Bible, and a recent review by @AsYouWish grabbed my interest.

This is a fun, light romcom about a woman who embarks on a solo trip to bonnie Scotland in search of her own Jamie Fraser. MC Emma is delightfully silly, the descriptions of her travels, the people she meets, and her blog posts are charming, and the writing is solid.

Probably best enjoyed by Outlander/JAMMF fangirls (like me).

Wow!! This book is an interesting ride! It is the story of Emma, a woman from Chicago, who loves Outlander (the book not the show), and needs a change. So she sets off to Scotland to find her own Jaime Fraser. She starts a blog to talk about her journey to find the man of her dreams, but along the way she finds something more. It is well written, funny & it made me want to go to Scotland even more than I already do. Highly recommend!!

What a cute, fun, read, somewhat reminiscent of a Kinsella book with a Bridget Jones MC.

29 year old Emma is an obsessed Outlander fan who trots off to Scotland in search of her own “Jamie Fraser” whilst blogging her journey. Let‘s be real here, what Jamie Fraser fan hasn‘t fantasized of doing this themself? I will unabashedly admit, I have! Fan-fiction at its best, but if Diana Gabaldon approves, who am I to complain.

The_Heeler_Booklife I need to read this! I love Jamie! 6y
Loric @allthingskayla the reviews weren‘t great for this but if you go in knowing it‘s a lighthearted and somewhat silly/comical read, I think you will enjoy... the MC was annoyingly naive but I loved her obsession with Outlander and her desire to “follow Claire‘s steps”. Sweet self discovery book in my opinion 6y
The_Heeler_Booklife @Loric I‘m totally up for a fluff read and for something fun. 6y

Overall this was a quick and funny read. While you don‘t have to be a fan of Outlander to enjoy the book, it certainly made it more enjoyable knowing what Emma was searching for. Although I didn‘t love the story (I found it to be a bit predictable and cheesy), it was a cute read. If you‘ve ever had a book boyfriend and you like Chick Lit, this one may be for you!

Two books in a row set in Scotland for me. This was definitely the weaker. There were too many "duh" moments for me to feel empathy for the main character and I thought it was super odd for the blog post chapters to end with, "see 42 additional comments here." Here, where? No explanation given. I found the conflict to be contrived and predictable. And that Gabaldon is never acknowledged by name was just...dumb. What? Is her name copyrighted?

I don't know how long I can stick with this. Not only do I find the narrator's voice and terminal perkiness annoying (not to mention all the accents) but the heroine has done the unthinkable - behaved like a stupid and naive girl.

I don't know how this actual book reads but the "Susan" character had a horrible changing accent that gave away her true nature. Yet our plucky little heroine gives this woman about half of her available cash.

I loved this book. It's light, sweet and funny. You don't need to be a fan of Outlander to appreciate it; you simply need to have had a 'book boyfriend' that sets the standard. It also becomes a great tourist guide to Scotland and I want to visit that country even more!!

A very cute read about finding love. ❤️

Light and funny, but i didn't think the writing was very good and parts of the story felt like the author was trying too hard to be witty and relevant. Or, maybe I just don't have patience for chick lit the way I used to.

A quick, fun read, solid 3.5. Minus points for the racism/exoticizing, and the dismal description of highland dance (not entirely fair as I'm biased as a highland dancer); plus points for some of the racism/exoticizing being called out in the narrative, and for not being completely heteronormative. It would make a super fun movie.

I adore the Outlander series with all my ❤️ and readily admit that Jamie Fraser is the ideal fictional man. Yet, I couldn't get into this book mainly due to not liking the lead character.
