I‘m only on page 30 and it‘s already fast paced. I hope that will continue! #ya

I didn‘t quite buy the romance, the hero wasn‘t very compelling. The mystery/intrigue parts got dull towards the climax rather than building up. I imagine a kid between 12-15 would like this a lot better than I did.

A gorgeous cover but a pretty average YA fantasy in my opinion. I think it was a first novel, which could explain the uneven pacing. The first half felt very slow and the end a bit anticlimactic. I'm also not in the mood for teenage angst and lack of communication about love.

MrBook Nice review! 6y
JSW Thus wobbled between a pick and so so for me and I went with pick. My teen nieces loved it. 6y
ScientistSam @JSW I can see that, it was close for me too. I think it suffered by comparison after I finished reading a Lucy Parker romance. They actually communicate in that! (But of course they are also adults.) I can see where teens would love it. 6y

I‘m going with a pick for this, because even though I‘ve read more sophisticated YA, I think this has a Good story and characters. This is a pick for younger YA readers - the romance is innocent, but there‘s some violence. If your kids are ok with PG 13 movies this would be ok for a younger kid with advanced reading skills.

Action scenes and plot kept me going but the ending was meh, and if I had to hear one more time about how dreamy Cohen was...

ReadingVampire Omg I‘m reading this now and my eyes hurt from how hard they are rolling. I honestly hope he doesn‘t make it. But then I‘ll have to hear how dreamy he WAS every five seconds! I also have a problem with her lack of confidence, she‘s supposed to be the BEST. 😐 I really like the magic... the bits we get to see. Sigh... idk if I‘m going to make it all the way through. 6y

Happy Easter Litsy! :D
I always look forward to Easter. My family has a tradition of getting books on Easter and spending the day home reading and eating an unhealthy amount of chocolate. :)
Here‘s mine for this year, plus a bonus cameo of my ridiculously tiny dog who wanted to be in the picture.

This book was pretty good.
I think it might have been over hyped in my opinion.
I'll try the second book out to see if it gets better.
I know the first book in a series is focused on world building so I can't judge to strongly.
The characters are likable(alot of "ehh," moments).
I like where the story is going.
I didn't like the repetitive dialogue...
It wasn't a horrible book.
I Loved the colorful descriptions.???

Meeeeehhhhhhh. A friend of mine said this was "Fantasy 101" and I totally see what she meant. This felt pretty derivative and not unique in any way. The characters were mostly flat, though I did appreciate Britta being both tough and also having emotions. But she still felt kind of bland, and the story was so slow! The romance was too forced and IMO was unnecessary. I did like Enat and probably would've loved a book just about her, heh. 2/5 ⭐️

Britta‘s father was the King‘s bounty hunter until he was murdered. Britta, one of the best trackers in the kingdom, is tasked with tracking her father‘s suspected killer—his former apprentice Cohen. Of course, it‘s rather more complicated with layers of secrets, forbidden magic, looming war, & pesky feelings. Great for younger readers & if it isn‘t the most original story, it is nonetheless a well told, exciting adventure & an enjoyable read.

This is a quick read and I‘m far enough along now I decided to bring it home and not just read in between classes. Enjoying it so far and definitely appreciate the author writing not only what her characters are seeing but also what they are hearing and smelling. Seems obvious, I know, but authors don‘t always pay attention to all the senses.

First, I love the cover! It is simply beautiful! 😍 Second, I had the privilege of meeting Mrs. Summerhill at the RT Convention last May, and was truly impressed by her passion for writing and her love for her readers. 💖🍎
Now the book. This is a wonderfully crafted fanatasy of a girl seeking her father's murderer. I absolutely adore the heroine! She is smart, strong, and needs no one to save her. 😍

Ever the Hunted is just what I was looking for. I love fantasy novels. I am always looking for a new world to immerse myself in. I really enjoyed Ever the Hunted.
.
The magic in this book was great. I do have to say that this book is a bit slow but I think that is because the character is traveling the whole time and Summerill is doing a lot of world building for the reader.

Finishing this up today! Total honesty: this was 100% a cover buy lol. It's gorgeous 😋 The story itself will please anyone hungry for more YA fantasy romance. For someone who's not, it doesn't feel particularly special compared to what else is out there. It's perfectly serviceable and well done if that genre is your jam though!
