"K" is for Killer
"K" is for Killer | Sue Grafton

Lorna Kepler was beautiful and willful, a loner who couldn't resist flirting with danger. Maybe that's what killed her. Her death had raised a host of tough questions. The cops suspected homicide, but they could find neither motive nor suspect. Even the means were mysterious: Lorna's body was so badly decomposed when it was discovered that they couldn't be certain she hadn't died of natural causes. In the way of overworked cops everywhere, the case was gradually shifted to the back burner and became another unsolved file. Only Lorna's mother kept it alive, consumed by the certainty that somebody out there had gotten away with murder. In the ten months since her daughter's death, Janice Kepler had joined a support group, trying to come to terms with her loss and her anger. It wasn't helping. And so, leaving a session one evening and noticing a light on in the offices of Millhone Investigations, she knocked on the door. In answering that knock, Kinsey Millhone is pulled into the netherworld of unavenged murder, where only a pact with the devil will satisfy the restless ghosts of the victims and give release to the living they have left behind. Eleven books into the series that has won her readers around the world, Sue Grafton takes a darkside turn, pitching us into a shadow land of pain and grief where killers still walk free, unaccused, unpunished, unrepentant. With "K" is for Killer she offers a tale that is dark, complex, and deeply disturbing.

1. Kinsey Millhone
2. This is a very interesting question, because Kinsey generally worked alone. Ranger Anna Pigeon is also a bit of a lone wolf, so it would be fun to see them try to figure out how to solve a crime together. Perhaps a murder in the Santa Monica mountains?

IndoorDame Ooh, love that pairing! 2y
TheSpineView Interesting combination! Thanks for playing 2y
Amiable I love the Anna Pigeon series by Nevada Barr! Although the last few were not as good as the earlier ones. 2y

I love Kinsey. She‘s one of my favorite all time characters. There were some loose ends in this one that I would have liked more info on. ⭐️⭐️⭐️

Another good one! I felt there were a couple loose ends left untied though (that would not be resolved in later books).

I already have “L” out but starting and finishing up other books first!

Susanita This is my favorite of the series. I liked the loose ends! 4y
ValerieAndBooks @Susanita a good one for sure. I guess we readers have to fill in the blanks ourselves 😊 4y

Ignoring my humongous TBR to continue rereading Grafton. Already almost halfway through this one!

This month (and maybe the last 6 months) have been tough for my attention span. Poor neglected TBR!!

BarbaraTheBibliophage Kinsey is a comfort read for me. I just have Y to go. 4y
MicheleinPhilly I‘ve been leaning into the comfort reads too. 4y

BarbaraTheBibliophage @rubyslippersreads @MicheleinPhilly It‘s only going to get more important to feel comfort in the next couple of months! 4y
ValerieAndBooks @BarbaraTheBibliophage @MicheleinPhilly @rubyslippersreads Comfort reads are so good to resort to during challenging times. I had said for years that I was going to do a re-read of this series, and it wasn‘t until this March that I decided I needed to start. 4y

Never takes me long to plot through a Sue Grafton novel! I don't remember ever having read this one before either.

This is still a pick even though the ending fell flat for me. I enjoy Kinsey‘s antics and humor as she works to solve a woman‘s murder. Lots of characters and challenges in this one. Painting credit goes to @mypoesoul (https://poesoulstudio.com) #MountTBR

Meaw_catlady Woah that painting is so beautiful!! 5y
HeathHof 🤩🤩🤩 5y
JoScho Your husband has some skills! That is beautiful! 5y
NatalieR @Meaw_catlady @Mynameisacolour @JoScho Thanks! 😊 The picture doesn‘t do it justice...it‘s an oil painting done with a pallet knife in an impasto style so the paint is thick. To top it off there is diamond dust in the varnish for that perfect, subtle sparkle. I just ❤️ his work. 5y

Man, Kinsey had a lot of parking problems in this book. I was disappointed the storyline about her family didn‘t continue into this book, especially since the mystery (and solve) in this one were quite weak.

Book 2 finished for #bookspinbonanza.

TheAromaofBooks Woohoo!! 5y
janeycanuck @TheAromaofBooks So far, so good. I need to read about 200 pages a day to get through all 20 books. I‘m just a little bit behind now! 5y

Aww, man! This had such an interesting storyline and the ending just dissipated into nothing. Kinsey investigates a sex worker's murder and then turns over the killer to a bunch of goons in a limo and he's never seen again. Spoiler, maybe, but I feel like it's a PSA. The story was good and I loved the introduction of Cheney Phillips! Too bad he had a girlfriend in the book because I'd like to see the two of them end up together, more than Jonah!

I went from boring lady's maid to Kinsey Millhone watching a 1990s porn film!!! 😂😂😂 If you need a good chuckle, listen to Grafton expertly tiptoeing around that situation!!! She was fabulous! I actually laughed out loud!

So good! 🌟🌟🌟🌟1/2 out of 5.

Grafton gets a bit twisty and dark in this installment, and Kinsey has to live with some hard choices. #atoyreread

K is for Kinsey! Sue‘s daughter shared this picture and others on social media, and I liked it so much I made it my new home screen wallpaper. I especially love it because it also reminds me of a friend of mine who lives in SB and drives a VW bug. This book my favorite in the series but not necessarily a good one to read as a stand-alone.

It breaks my heart that I can use it for the #writtenbydeceasedauthor prompt. #NewYearReads

MatchlessMarie I saw an article recently about her passing that said “Because of all of those things, and out of the deep abiding love and respect for our dear sweet Sue, as far as we in the family are concerned, the alphabet now ends at Y." ??? http://torontosun.com/entertainment/books/there-is-no-z-sue-grafton-writer-of-po... 7y

A bunch of books I had on hold all showed up at once and I'm feeling the time crunch since they are on the long side and I know I can't renew because there is a waitlist. At least I can curl up with Kinsey before I tackle some larger books.
