I bought this in a bookstore in New Orleans a couple of years ago and I only just got to it. It was fine- touched on some big issues without getting too deep. I very much enjoyed that it was set in New Orleans. As for the cake, it was delicious 👌🏼

The characters in DOLLBABY were ones I fell in love with along with Ibby, whose real name was Liberty Bell.

Ibby was an understandably sad young lady for a TWELVE-year old with a heartbreaking story.

This book was so so good! I absolutely loved all of the main characters and thoroughly enjoyed the audiobook version. ❤️❤️❤️ Will be recommending this! #audiobook

After reading @HiddenGemBooks review a while back, I knew I wanted to get my hands on this book. Found it on Libby. About half way through, and really enjoying it so far. 💞

When Ibby‘s father dies in the summer of 1964, her mother unceremoniously deposits Ibby with her eccentric grandmother Fannie and throws in her father‘s urn for good measure. Fannie‘s New Orleans house is like no place Ibby has ever been, and Fannie is like no one she‘s ever met. Fortunately, Fannie‘s black cook, Queenie, and her daughter, Dollbaby, initiate Ibby into the ways of the South, both its grand traditions and its darkest secrets.

I finished this one this morning as I hold my own little dollbaby. He just turned 5 months old yesterday...but woke up sick with a runny nose in the middle of the night. 😢 Hate it when my boys are sick! The only good thing that comes of it is lots of snuggles and some reading time. A #bookclub pick (the meeting is tomorrow) that I think most in the group will enjoy. Race and what it means to be a family are the main themes explored.

#bookclub happens Monday. Just starting the #audiobook. Hopefully I can get this one done asap!

It's a very rare occurrence that I give a book a five-star rating. But when you close the cover for the last time, feeling as though you are saying goodbye to a friend, you know the book you've just read is a true gem. I know these characters will stay with me for a long while and there are lessons to be learned from the indomitable Miss Fannie and her faithful tribe of amazing women. I would recommend this book to anyone. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I still have the biggest smile on my face from our #PhillyMeetup. AND IT'S MONDAY MORNING. It may snow or something.

This didn't do much for me. Fans of The Help will probably enjoy it.

So far, this reminds me of The Help. It's a superficial treatment of a heavy subject, and it's a fast read. The characters - from the Eccentric Old Southern White Lady to every Black character - are broad caricatures. Also, I grew up in the area and instead of being delighted by careful local references, I feel like I'm being beat over the head with them. If there's not a jazz funeral, I'll be overcome by the vapors.

Day 9 of the #Riotgrams challenge: author or character who shares your name. It doesn't happen often, but very occasionally I encounter a Liberty. My most recent sighting was in this book. My name is on ALL the US currency, though. Not many people can say that. 🤑📚🤘🏻

#ReadJanuary #InspiredByMartinLutherKingJr This is a coming of age story in New Orleans in the 1960's. It deals with many issues of that time including racial issues. Maybe not the first book you think of for this topic, but it definitely reflects Dr. King.

I was hand sold this book at Fiction Addition in Greenville South Carolina. It was their staff pick and the owner of the bookstore recommended it to me when I asked for books about the South. It was a really delightful read about coming of age in 60's New Orleans. I was then lucky enough to hear the author speak at Southern Voices in Hoover, AL. #augustphotochallenge #underhypedbook

I loved everything about this book. The characters just draw you in. It is a page turner in an unconventional sense in a world of Gone Girl and The Girl on the Train. Everyone should read this book.

This book was so awesome. I read it in a day and I loved it. Everyone should read this book!! I can't express how awesome it is!
