From the New York Times bestselling author of the Goodnight Already! series This is a book about a bad seed. A baaaaaaaaaad seed. How bad? Do you really want to know? He has a bad temper, bad manners, and a bad attitude. Hes been bad since he can remember! This seed cuts in line every time, stares at everybody and never listens. But what happens when one mischievous little seed changes his mind about himself, and decides that he wants to behappy? With Jory Johns charming and endearing text and bold expressive illustrations by Pete Oswald, here is The Bad Seed: a funny yet touching tale that reminds us of the remarkably transformative power of will, acceptance, and just being you. Perfect for readers young and old, The Bad Seed proves that positive change is possible for each and every one of us.

And now I want to hug a sunflower seed. 🥹 This series is wonderful. Just that gentle, hopeful way of relaying the fact that we're all flawed and different and capable of change and deserving of belief in our ability to do so. Love the art. Very difficult not to hear the “baaaaaaad seed“ refrain to the tune of 'Bad to the Bone', which I presume was on purpose. 😁😉

TheBookHippie I read the whole series aloud to kids every year at school. 4d

I really enjoyed this book and the journey of the bad seed and what his bad behavior caused. I think this book would be super important in a classroom setting as to encourage students to understand bad behavior has consequences!

This book is a humorous picture book published in 2017. The bad seed never listens and is always causing trouble. But one day, he cracks, and he realizes being bad is not all that. He starts to change and becomes a better seed. This story has a great message and is very funny, and I will definitely use this in my classroom!

My 5 year old got his Scholastic order today at school. We read The Bad Seed together for the first time and I must say, it's all too relatable. I had a misguided childhood and spent a lot of years working out trauma and depression. I'm better now, not perfect but better. This book gets me. I was a bad seed as well. 🌰🖤

BennettBookworm Love this story, and if you haven‘t read Good Egg and Cool Bean those are equally excellent!! 3y
nichollinlove @BennettBookworm We have Good Egg but bought a bundle with all three so Cool Bean is on the list for us! Such a surprisingly adorable set. 3y

This hilarious NY Times bestseller, MF book is perfect for a RA with young students. Teaching them a lesson that positive change is possible for everyone! I read this to my students a while back and they loved it! This teacher came up with fun ways to relate the book to real life! This relates to UDL 9.2 in the way that these activities can teach students how to deal with negativity & being positive.

Rachelleleduc Also utilizes ESOL #18 - the games on the website allow for TPR 5y
DrSpalding Wrong website included. I know the publisher has an excellent resource. This is a good book for a read aloud at the beginning of the school year. I would read this along with the other two in the trilogy. 5y

This F, New York Times Best Seller is so cute and perfect for a RA. This story is about a bad seed who one day decides to change his ways. Students will learn from this story that change starts with one step at a time and that one good change can go a long way. #ucflae3414sp20
The website linked below provides many teacher resources with extension activities for this book.
https://childrenslibrarylady.com/the-bad-seed/

Keishla.O UDL 6.1 (Guide appropriate goal setting) can be met by having students make a goal of one thing they can do to be better in their lives.
ESOL strategy 3 (Encourage self-talk (positive thinking)) goes hand in hand with the UDL. Students can name things that they already do in their lives that they think are kind.

Kayla_C Love love love your picture. I definitely need to read this book. 5y
DrSpalding What an awesome image! This trilogy is one that you should include in your classroom library. Your English learner strategy works perfectly with your universal design principle and the theme of this book! Nice post. 5y

These are two very fun F books! The Bad Seed was a final nominee in Carolina Childrens Book Award. I have attached a link where a K teacher used The Bad Seed to teach about kindness counselorkeri.com/2018/03/09/the-bad-seed where the book was used as a RA. Facilitating personal coping skills and strategies (UDL 9.2) and providing contextual support (ESOL 17) could be met with this lesson plan. #ucflae3414sp20

DrSpalding Reading aloud this trilogy of books is highly recommended! You could also complete an author study. 5y

The Bad Seed written by Jory John and illustrated by Pete Oswald is a great nonfiction book that is also a NY Times Bestseller! This book is about a seed that one day turned into a bad seed after someone spit him out and he took a hard fall. One day, he decided he didn‘t want to be bad anymore, he wanted to be good. He still forgets to listen and shows up late but he also says thank you and smiles! #ucflae3414f19

alexblanco It‘s such a cute book and I think kids could relate to it. I would use this book as a read aloud. A UDL strategy to use is minimize threats and distractions. Since I know this book talks about being bad, the kids might try to act out so it is important to prevent that. A ESOL strategy to use would be to use Venn diagrams to contrast and compare. 5y
alexblanco I could do this to check for comprehension by asking them to compare and contrast what the seed did when he was bad compared to what he does when he‘s good. A lesson plan I found for this book this https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/The-Bad-Seed-Activities-and-Lesson-P.... I like how the activities deal with believing there is good in everyone, choosing positive self talk and believing people can change. 5y
DrSpalding I absolutely love these books! I own this one as well. What a great buck to use for comparing and contrasting. It is obvious with your posts that you understand how to incorporate universal design and English learner strategies to meet the needs of your students. 5y

Hubby‘s not feeling well so I was on double bedtime duty tonight. The boys chose their books well! #TheBadSeed is SO fun to read aloud and the illustrations in #HaveYouEverSeenaSmackofJellyfish are really stunning. One teaches a lesson, the other some wildlife facts plus the alphabet. What‘s not to love?? Highly recommend both books!

LeahBergen Is he a bad sunflower seed? 😂 7y
britt_brooke @LeahBergen Yep! 😆 It‘s such a cute book. He‘s good until he finds himself inside a bag of sunflower seeds, then gets spat out by a “giant.” Then he stops being polite, is always late, and never puts things back where they belong. It‘s pretty adorable. 7y

#UCFLA3414F17 The Bad Seed by Jory John is a modern fantasy. It is an Amazon Best Children's Book. It is the story about a bad seed that has a bad temper and bad manners. It talks about positive changes for the main character.

ProfessorOak Link https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/The-Bad-Seed-Book-Study-3441230 I think I would used UDL 3.1 activate of supply background knowledge. #UCFLA3414F17 7y
ProfessorOak And I would choose ESOL 4, link lesson topic to students prior knowledge because children need to go over what they just learned. #UCFLA3414F17 7y
jasminep This book looks so adorable!! I love the cover this definitely looks like a book the kids would love and maybe some would even relate to lol. 7y

The Bad Seed, a children‘s literature book written by Jody Johns, tells the story about a bad seed. A really, REALLY BAAAAAAAAAAD seed! He has a bad temper and manners, but one day, he decides to be happy and everything changes! This book could be used for a read-aloud in class, as more often than not, our students will have behavioral problems. A UDL I️ found for this: 9.3, which is to develop self-assessment and reflection.

Klewis81 An ESOL strat that can be applied: 3, encourage self-talk (positive thinking). Attached is a lesson that can be used: https://thiskidreviewsbooks.com/2017/09/15/perfect-picture-book-friday-the-bad-s... 7y
