The Wall Street Journal Un delizioso cocktail di avventura, suspense e mistero. The Washington Post Straordinario.

Bk4 of August & #Rushathon #readathon is done. Another from my deep dive into my #MountTBRShelvesOfDoom this has been sitting there for about 6yrs I think. A soft Pick, the 1st in Rice‘s Werewolf duology, not the best of the genre I‘ve read but I did love the setting & atmosphere. The house, Nideck Point, sounds like my idea of a dream house. I‘d take being a wolf a few days a month to live there! The writing was a bit meh though. #Booked2023👇

Cinfhen Hi!!!! Glad to see you‘re busy reading!!! Hope all is well 😁 1y
Kinniska This is how I felt about it. I enjoyed more of the life of the older ones and the mystery and the house, found myself deeply ambivalent about the current “I am now a beastie” discovery. 3mo

A few chapters into another werewolf story, this one by Anne Rice who usually writes about vampires! It‘s really good so far, very atmospheric. Reuben is a young reporter, sent to the big house on the cliffs of the North California coast to write a story about it & the disappearance of its owner 20yrs ago. But an attack leaves him a very different man when he‘s injured after the current owner is stabbed to death & leaves him the house. #Rushathon

R.I.P. Anne Rice 💔

Absolutely devastated to hear the news this morning about Anne Rice's passing. Her words, characters, and stories have always been a light in the dark, and have many times made me feel less alone.

You will be missed!

I love Anne Rice and I love werewolves, so I thought this was the perfect book for me, however it went on a bit too long.

The overall story was ok and I did like Rice's interpretation of the Werewolf Mythology BUT all the characters fell flat.
I think she should of stuck with Vampires

The only good thing about this book is it didn't end up on my DNF list. I can honestly say I will not be recommending this book to anyone.

I could not connect with any of the characters - particularly Laura. Who has sex with a werewolf withing seconds of meeting him, then two days later move in with him!!

There was no real plot and what small plot there was, was predictable. 👎👎👎👎👎

Ok, so if you're an Anne Rice fan then I'd say pick this up. If you're not, maybe don't start here unless you are gaga for werewolves.
As other reviews said, holy description! I forgot what Rice's writing was like- feel like the editor could have had a heavier hand here but it wasn't so much that I turned it off. I feel the ending was more interesting than the rest of it but there was finally action and I could see multiple stories developing.

Veloce e intrigante.

I tried. I try so often with Anne Rice and it never works out. Way too much description about nothing and no story build up. I didn't even get to the werewolves. A shame; as I really want to like something from Rice.

Mccall0113 I feel exactly the same ! 8y

Love her Vampire Chronicles. Not so sure about this one. I was so excited that Anne Rice was getting back to her paranormalness, but... I adore descriptive authors, but it was a bit excessive and redundant here. Maybe things get better in the sequel?

I adore werewolf books. This wasn't my absolute favorite but I enjoyed it. It was an interesting spin and was well written. I'm going to read the next one if I find it used somewhere or on bookmooch. 🌟🌟🌟

ThomasHewlett I enjoyed this one too. Reuben verged too close to a Mary Sue sometimes, but I still liked the story. (Also, since you mentioned it, what is your favorite werewolf book?) 9y
Foragingfantasy @ThomasHewlett I don't know that I have a favorite... Most have been... Um... Pretty smutty. Did you read the sequel to this one? And do you have any to recommend? 9y
ThomasHewlett Haven't read the sequel yet but I plan to. Last ones I liked were Armstrong's "Bitten" and Percy's "Red Moon." I remember liking "Sharp Teeth" as well but can't recall the story. 9y
Foragingfantasy @ThomasHewlett Bitten is sitting on a stack by my bed! I've almost started it several times... Soon. Thanks! 9y
