#Pop23 ~a book you read more than 10 years ago. I read this in 6th grade, living in Massachusetts at the time. Revisiting it in my adulthood as a Maryland resident, the eastern shore life is much more prominent. It made me sad as these islands are sinking and becoming inhabitable but it was fun to revisit this coming of age story.
I‘ve known about this book for many years but have yet to read it, so I‘m recommending it to myself as much as anyone else! ☺️ #alphabetgame #letterJ @Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks

📙 Jacob Have I Loved by Katherine Paterson
📙 Island of the Blue Dolphins by Scott O‘Dell
Enjoy!
This coming-of-age story won the Newbery Medal for Katherine Paterson. An honest account of a painful sibling rivalry, and one sister‘s struggle to make her own way 🥰📖😥

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ It took a bit for me to get into this book but once I did I was hooked. This is the story of Sara Louise who so the oldest twin but is always living in her sister Caroline‘s shadow. Even though I am not a twin, I relate so much to her journey.
#BiblioMAYnia Day 23: The theme of #LostLoves is keenly felt in this awardwinning novel. If you‘re looking for quick fixes & neat resolutions that would make you feel good about yourself and the way the world works, then this novel would challenge those notions. It is a novel layered so meaningfully and would mould itself meaningfully depending on a woman‘s realities at certain stages in her life. My review: https://wp.me/pDlzr-3q4
💙💙💙💙Excellent quote from the author of one of my favorite books as a child
Twin sisters who are different in just about every way. Set in Maryland. #aboutsiblings #biblioMAYnia
When the wonderful Sara from Fiction Matters chose Jacob Have I Loved as her pick for today‘s episode of my podcast, I wasn‘t sure if I‘d read it as a kid. The fact that I have multiple notes in the margins of my copy that say BUT WHERE IS JACOB? makes it abundantly clear that this was, in fact, a first reading experience for me... but I‘m so glad I had it! This ep is especially close to my heart — I‘m excited to share! ❤️ Link to listen in bio!
Romans 9:13: "As it is written, Jacob have I loved, but Esau have I hated."
Sara Louise and Caroline, are twins, and Caroline has always been the favorite. She is prettier and more talented, and receives more attention not only from their parents but also from others in the community.
The book traces Louise's attempts to free herself from Caroline's shadow, even as she grows into adulthood.

This was so good❤️
Genre: Young adult fiction

Why this book: Received it as a gift
Summary: Louise is always being compared to her twin sister, Caroline by her family and friends. Caroline is beautiful, talented, she is better. Growing up in the small island of Rass, Caroline did nothing but take from Louise, their parent's love, her chances for an education, her dreams for the future. Louise's only hope is in a place outside of Rass.

4/5⭐ I can't say I particularly liked the main characters or plot. The pacing skipped around timeline-wise sometimes, especially at the end, when things happened but as a sidenote that made them feel so much more distanced than I would have liked. But the writing was so well researched, so detailed in the world building, so compelling that I couldn't help but be drawn in & actively want to continue reading. #atozreadathon #projectSAMS #projectTBR
Thinking about myself as a crazy, independent old woman made me feel almost happy.

But I had never caused my parents "a minute's worry." Didn't they know that worry proves you care? Didn't they realize that I needed their worry to assure myself that I was worth something?

My LIGHT IT UP BLUE for AUTISM in book form. 💙💙💙💙
I love someone with Autism. 💙
What does it say about me/my emotional state that I started another book today? I have 7 in my "currently reading" list.
KATHERINE PATERSON was born in China, where she spent part of her childhood. After her education in China and the American South, she spent four years in Japan, the setting for her first three novels.
A #SignedSundays thrift shop find. I'm thinking that Alison didn't like the author OR her mother. 😂😂 #SignedSunday
Brace yourself for my #FunFridayPhoto posts... I got carried away. First, children's books I am #thankful for. Jacob Have I Loved showed me that even those who feel overlooked can find their own place. A Wrinkle in Time taught me that love will always win (also because: Meg). Harry Potter: friendship and self-sacrifice. And the Chronicles of Narnia because: Lucy and Eustace and Reepicheep and Aslan's country.
Twin sisters share a home but not much more in this poignant coming-of-age story #setinasmalltown on an island in Maryland's Chesapeake Bay. The town is so small, it's barely a town at all! #photoadaynov16
#FunPhotoFriday I read and reread this book, every heartbreaking chapter and every adventurous chapter. I loved this middle-grade novel and still have my copy.
My #FunFridayPhoto! Growing up landlocked in Appalachia I loved this quiet book about growing up on an island. Love it even more now that I live nearish the island & married into a family from a neighboring island.
I read this YEARS ago, saw it at a free little library so I picked it up to see what I thought of it all the years later. Going to have my niece read it next.
"Jacob have I loved, but Esau have I hated." One of my favorite childhood books for #tbt. ? Nostalgia vibes!
