This was interesting, but a bit repetitive. The ending for me was super rushed and the twist was a bit unbelievable. I just didn‘t think that it fully worked. I definitely am still questioning a lot. It was a quick read with an interesting concept, but I think it needed to be better thought out.

Oh @Chrissyreadit - what a wonderful winter holiday gift!! Thank you so much — and for always being so sweet & thoughtful - I‘m grateful for your friendship! I had a … very rough & tumble week, ending with more bad news (on the car front), & these gifts were such an appreciated lift me up! 🤗💙❄️🤍😘

Also, how cool to have used @Rachel.Rencher ‘s mystery book shop on Etsy - I love it and I‘m so excited to read this book! 🤩

BRING ME BACK by B.A. Paris was a big disappointment. It felt forced and overdone, none of the characters are very likable, and it had an improbable conclusion - it just falls flat. I would not recommend this book, it was a struggle to the finish.

I expected so much more from this book.
The beginning was promising, but everything else was just utterly ridiculous.
The characters, the story, the end....
Didn't like it at all...

The twist at the end is nice but it couldn't make up for the rest of the slow novel.

Things I liked:

🧡 The premise: Seemed something new.

🧡 The ending: I couldn't guess the twist. Liked what the author did with the story.

⚫The writing: Too Slow. Had to skim!

The characters: The main characters were not interesting enough to be the leads of a thriller novel, the situations and dialogues played an important part in making the novel rough.

Book 36🎧 3⭐️

I will agree, this book says “Russian doll” an excessive amount of times😂 (but I do love my Babushka!🪆)

I stuck it out for the long haul because I FOMO about what actually happened…but the ending just seemed unbelievable... Not quite sure how that would have worked out😵‍💫

A sprinkle of Stockholm syndrome?🤷🏼‍♀️

A man with anger issues is taunted by his ex girlfriend who has been missing for thirteen years. This book had me questioning the moral decisions of every character. Literally every page had me scoffing with disgust as the characters made outrageous request and unwise actions. I wanted to throw the book across the room a number of times. But isn't that what a good book is supposed to do…. is it a good book? I don't know!! 2/26/2021-2/27/2021

So this psychological thriller was pretty good. I don‘t read a ton of these anymore and it‘s really because I can‘t suspend my disbelief. I have a hard time believing all the little coincidences.

In this one, Finn is no prize and doesn‘t really seem like a great person. But he‘s got all these women that are into him. And I just didn‘t get it. Can‘t say much more without spoiling.

Also, last 4 books I read had characters named Finn in them...

2/5 - I have to be honest - I didn‘t really enjoy this one! I have to give props that I was able to finish it in only one day, but that‘s about it. I disliked the characters, I disliked the plot, and I really disliked the ending. Ugh, I‘m moody about it, but I think it‘s because I really liked The Breakdown (by the same author), but this was just ughhhhhh. Not for me.

Rage reading this all the way to the end. I hate that I can‘t stop listening. Around 50% of the way through, it got ridiculous. I couldn‘t put it away though. I had to figure out how B. A. Paris tied this all up. It‘s worse than I thought, but I do feel vindicated that I disliked Ellen from the start.

While not my favorite B.A. Paris book, it was still quite enjoyable with its cleverly crafted tangled web that kept me guessing. More drama than thriller, this tale is full of obsession, secrets and suspense. The pacing was perfect with short chapters and mini-cliffhangers I couldn‘t put it down. The twist was disappointing for me but overall still enjoyable. Cathleen McCarron and Kevin Hely do a terrific job bringing these characters to life.

I really wanted to like this. The build up was great but I hated the ending. The way it was wrapped up just didn‘t do it for me. I did figure out what was going on, but I had hoped there was something more to the story. The buildup was there so that there could have been more but there wasn‘t. I gave it 2 stars on Goodreads.

Genre: Mystery, Thriller, Suspense, Psychological Thriller, Psychological Fiction
Date Started: Nov 11
Date Finished: Nov 22
How did I choose this book: My favourite genre of books is thriller so I decided to read this book, especially because the summary got me interested in what would happen later on.

Aliezah :) Summary: These 2 young couples, Layla and Finn are in love and on vacation. One night, they were driving along the highway when Finn decided to stop at a station to go to the restroom but when he comes back, he discovers that Layla disappeared. 10 years later, he fell in love with Layla‘s sister, Ellen and they were soon to be married. 5y
Aliezah :) His heart wants to believe that they are meant to be but it‘s as though he has a sixth sense that is telling him not to trust her. A few months before they were about to get married, Finn get a phone call that someone from his past saw Layla recently. There are odd appearances like Layla‘s long lost items are showing up at Finn and Ellen‘s house, emails from people who seem to know too much, secret messages that include clues and warnings. 5y
Aliezah :) Now, Finn starts a journey trying to figure out whether Layla is alive or not.
Who is the protagonist: The protagonist in this book is Finn. (last name was not stated)
What was his problem? His problem was that he tried moving on but something inside of him was still afraid that he couldn‘t trust Ellen.
5y
See All 6 Comments
Aliezah :) Therefore, months before they were about to get married, he noticed Layla‘s belongings in his house, clues and warnings from people who knew too much. Then and there, he knew that he had to find out what happened to Layla. 5y
Aliezah :) How was his problem solved? Later on in the book, Finn found out that Ellen had sent emails to Layla from Finn‘s account saying he was going to kill Layla. When Finn found out, he knew everything that caused Layla‘s disappearance was Ellen. Finn never loved Ellen as much as he loved Layla which made Ellen jealous which caused her to lie to the people around her. 5y
Aliezah :) Soon after, Ellen fainted and died later on. After that, Layla sent an email telling Finn everything that happened to her the past 10 years. Then, he brought Layla back. (edited) 5y

I won't judge the author by a single book but while the story was mildly interesting, I felt as if the entire story was being retold every few minutes. Finn's decade-younger girlfriend goes missing after a fight. Her sister turns up and after a while, they're getting married. Signs keep turning up that the girl isn't missing, chaos ensues but in a silly kind of way. I ended up listening to this on 1.75x just to finish it.

Callemarie Was this your first ba Paris book? 5y
IamIamIam @Callemarie It was and that's why I'd give Paris another shot. This wasn't awful, just clunky and repetitive. Are you a fan? If so, what do you suggest for a redeeming book choice? Lol 5y
RachelAmphlett I haven‘t read this one, but I enjoyed Behind Closed Doors when I read it earlier this year if that helps 5y
See All 14 Comments
Callemarie Yeah her other two are crazy but good. This one was the least favorite of mine. Def read one of her others. 5y
IamIamIam @Callemarie @RachelAmphlett Thanks so much for the suggestions! I'll be checking my library for more audio. Any other good suspense/thriller authors you enjoy? I do like Harlan Coben and Ruth Ware so I'm flexible ad long as there's minimal romantic nonsense, lol 5y
Callemarie I love me some riley sager, I just finished an arc by Steven Cavanagh called 13 I FREAKING LOVED that one... fiona barton is good, jennifer mcmahon is great-- hers are more like supernatural suspense but still good, good me bad me was a interest and crazy book, jt ellison is great too. I could probably go on and on hahaha 5y
IamIamIam @Callemarie Great recs!!! Thanks! Feel free to go on!!! Lol, my TBR only has about 750 books on it... let's get to 1000 today!! 😂 I love horror but it's hard to find really good horror that isn't plain gore for shock value. I find thrillers give me the same edginess without the gore. Lol 5y
RachelAmphlett @IamIamIam I really enjoy Robert Crais‘s novels featuring Elvis Cole and Joe Pike - and I tend to read all of those as they‘re released! Which books do you do that with? 5y
Callemarie Omg please read penpal by dathan Auerbach and the meadows by London clarke then 5y
IamIamIam @Callemarie I need to grab a few Auerbach books! Our library doesn't carry them and I've only heard wonderful things about them!!! 5y
IamIamIam @RachelAmphlett Excellent suggestions, thank you! I'm not familiar with any of those authors! I'm way behind on current releases but Carl Hiaasen is an auto buy and so is Richard Russo. I feel like I plow through mysteries & thrillers so quickly, I like to pick them up second hand. 😁 5y
Jess7 Bahaha! I listened at 2x speed at one point too bc I was like this is dumb! 5y
IamIamIam @Jess7 I always talk about the Russian dolls and how I never wanted to hear those words ever again!! I was literally talking about this a few days ago too!!! 😂 5y
Jess7 It just seemed like such a dumb premises. Like why? 5y

I enjoyed the narration and listened to this in about 3 main chunks so I would say I obviously found it compelling. I had 2 possibilities for the end result and my 2nd choice turned out to be correct. I liked Finn because I found him to be complicated and not completely likeable, nor necessarily reliable.

Audiobook - loved the narration. I enjoyed how the story is slowly developed. A bit of a thriller mystery. I waffled between liking the main character and being a afraid and hating him. It was great!! There‘s a sad lesson to be learned. Perfect ending. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
