The Green Mill Murder
The Green Mill Murder: Phryne Fisher's Murder Mysteries 5 | Kerry Greenwood
26 posts | 39 read | 19 to read
Death and blackmail make an unwelcome visit to the hottest dancehall in town in Phryne Fisher's delicious fifth mystery. Dancing divinely through the murder and mayhem of her fifth adventure, the elegant Phryne Fisher remains unflappable. Gorgeous in her sparkling lobelia-coloured georgette dress, delighted by her dancing skill, pleased with her partner and warmed by the admiring regard of the banjo player, Miss Phryne Fisher had thought of tonight as a promising evening at the hottest dancehall in town, the Green Mill. But that was before death broke in. In jazz-mad 1920s Melbourne, Phryne finds there are hidden perils in dancing the night away like murder, blackmail and young men who vanish. Phryne Fisher's fifth adventure leads to smoke-filled clubs, a dashingly handsome band leader, some fancy flying indeed across the Australian Alps and a most unexpected tryst with a gentle stranger.

Book 2 completed for #24b4monday

Not much to say about Phryne that I haven't already! I feel like I have to read one for every readathon. She's fun, modern, and gets into lots of trouble. This one did seem a bit more tame than usual, but it was still a good read.

I love Phryne Fisher. I don‘t know what to say about these books anymore except they are delightful. Phryne is working on solving a murder while also searching for a missing army veteran, and does it with F.L.A.I.R.

I need a good book recommendation! I just abandoned Ngaio Marsh's Overture to Death because I could not relate to any of the characters. Before. I finished Kerry #Greenwood's The Green Mill Murder, Michelle #MacNamara's I'll be gone in the dark, and binge read Rhys #Bowen's Lady Georgiana Rannoch series.

I'm open for mysteries, but could also switch genres again to a good YA (does not have to be new!) or something else completely #recommendsday

CaitZ Have you read Jacqueline Winspear's 11mo
CaitZ Or Amy Stewart's 11mo
stackednpainted @CaitZ I tried Jacqueline Wi spear years ago and did not get into the book at all. Maybe I should give it a try again... I'll check into Girl Waits With Gun as I haven't heard of it even:O 11mo

#BookMail Pt1 I now have the whole series in the Art Deco covers finally. They‘re all so beautiful, it‘s hard to pick a favourite but Blood And Circuses & Murder And Mendelssohn are two that I really love. Story wise though, this one, Murder In Montparnesse & Dead Mans Chest are my favourites to read. Highly recommended, the books are so much better than the tv series📺👎📖👍 #phryneappreciationclub

Texreader Gorgeous cover. I can understand why you wanted a complete set! 11mo
LauraBytheBook Hmmm I‘ve only read the first 2-3 so far. I will admit I love the Jack and Phryne storyline from the show so I‘ve found the books a bit disappointing. Maybe I should read a few more and give them another shot. 11mo
Lizpixie @KnitNread definitely keep reading! Once you get to Ruddy Gore she has a new lover that I think is better than Jack. And I do love Phryne & Jack in the show, I just think Phryne & Lin Chung are a great couple.👍 11mo

Continuing to make my way through the Phryne Fisher books this year. Very much enjoyed this one, about a murder in a dance hall, which ended up with a hermit and some very temperamental musicians.

I‘m on book 5 in my reread of the Phryne Fisher series via audiobook and loving every minute of it! I encourage you to give the audiobooks a go, as the narrator Stephanie Daniel is amazing. This was more enjoyable this time around as well. The audiobook makes you feel like you are right there with all of the wonderful characters. I highly recommend this series. 4.5⭐️

JenlovesJT47 @MallenNC you should!! The books are great. Slightly different from the show but just as good in a different way. 1y
Nitpickyabouttrains I just read book four! They are so charming. 1y
JenlovesJT47 @Nitpickyabouttrains they are! My personal favorites are books 15-20, they‘re the best! And book 6 which I‘m currently reading for the 3rd time. 😬 1y

I didn‘t think this was quite as good as the first 4, but it was still fun to read.

Insearchofbooks Have you seen the show?? 2y
Pamwurtzler @Insearchofbooks Not yet, but I need to watch. Have you? 2y
Insearchofbooks @Pamwurtzler I have! Its a little different from the books. But its tons of fun and the outfits Miss Fisher wears are fantastic! 2y
Lynnsoprano Love the shows, and I really want Phryne‘s wardrobe (also the figure to wear it😂) But It‘s true, there‘s a difference between the books and the show. Both good, just different. (edited) 2y

Please talk to me my Litsy friends! I'm at incredibly boring family function. Thinking of hiding out in a stall and reading latest Phryne Fisher book on my Kindle app.
What are y'all doing tonight? Or tell me your worst family function story. Or some bookish conversation. Save Me! 😨

Kaye You wanted us to distract you and talk. I like your skirt. It‘s cute. I need some black tights. What kind of food are they having at your shindig ? Any cake ? What kind is it ? Do you like Willie Nelson ? What was your school team‘s name ? Ours is the Indians. What were your school colors ? Ours are red and black. Did you like watching sports in high school? What was your favorite subject in school ? What book are you reading right now ? (edited) 2y

CoverToCoverGirl What @Jas16 said! 😎 2y
Crinoline_Laphroaig @Kaye Thank you! Not one person tonight has complimented my skirt. I bought it Inverness Scotland in September. We are in Texas. Lots of meat and I'm a Vegetarian. So I had salad, bread and something that claims to be Black Forest Cake. 2y
Crinoline_Laphroaig @Kaye Total obsessed with Shetland 2y
Kaye What‘s important is that YOU and I know your skirt is cute, so who gives a Flying Monkey if anyone else notices it. Not important. I‘ve heard of Black Forest cake. Doesn‘t it have cherries in it ? Gross. Do you have to stay there? Can‘t you go home if you want or do you need a ride ? I can come pick you up if you‘re less than an hour away. Gotta pick up my grandson in an hour. . 2y

Decided I didn't want to read anything tonight while I ate dinner. Since I was listening to the Fosse soundtrack in my car, I decided I was in a 1920's kind of mood and watched some of Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries. #stuckinthepast #fallintobooks

#FallIntoBooks #day21 #SetInFaveEra I love the Jazz Age,that period in between the wars with its fashion, Art Deco, music and the celebration of being alive after the horrendous death toll of WWI & the Spanish Flu Epidemic. I adore books set in this era, which is why I'm in the #phryneappreciationclub & #christiecrimeclub plus some newer authors like Nicola Upson,Carola Dunn & Sulari Gentill.Give me a cloche hat, a string of beads & a trumpet solo.

JazzFeathers Lol! I'm in those clubs too 😁 l've been resesrching the 1920s (both American and European, such similar and yet such different experience) gor years, for my own stories. It's an era that, in many respects, reminds ne of our own times 2y

I don't know how many times I've posted about these books, but I couldn't help myself for #allthesingleladies. Phryne is a badass single woman with no interest in "settling down" (terrible phase, btw) and it's so refreshing to read. #phryneforever

This is the first book l've read in the Miss Fisher series and l truly loved it. Fantastic setting (l'm in awe of the research Ms Kerry obviously undertook) and fantastic cast of characters, all with strengths and flaws that make them so endearing. Good mystery too.

BellaBookNook I want to read this. I absolutely adore the series. Have you watched the series? If so, are they similar? 3y
JazzFeathers @BellaBookNook l've watched only part of the series so far, and l'm loving it. Incidently, l've also watched the episode of the Green Mill Murder. The book is deeper in scope and character study, but the TV episode is very faithful overall. These are good stories any medium you chose to enjoy them ;) 3y
BellaBookNook I discovered the series in Netflix and binged watch them all except for last episode. I wish they would make another season but the lead actress has been talking up so many other offers so I'm unsure if they will continue. I definitely will get some of the books. Thanks. 3y

I have never really listened to jazz apart from when my dad's shuffle happens to come across some. But darn, I want to hear Nerine from this book.

I think I liked Tintagel more the first time I read it. This time I found him almost creepy. Dedication to art is all well and good, but not to the extent of concealing murder.

Finished Bk2 of this anthology,The Green Mill Murder. I have to say that Charles in the book version is very much a nastier piece of work than naive Charles in the tv series. I really loved this, Phryne is always amazing but the level of research the author put into Bert & Cec's WWI experiences to make them feel real has to be applauded, you could see the Gallipoli/ANZAC experience as they were talking, it was so clear. Well done. Lest We Forget

JazzFeathers Just finished this book myself, the first l've read of his series. Beautifully researched and written. All the characters are fantastic 3y

Onto book 2 in this anthology, The Green Mill Murder. Phryne Fisher is dancing at The Green Mill, a speakeasy in Melbourne, when a fellow dancer drops dead at her feet. When her dance partner, and a member of the band she becomes involved with, come to the polices attention as suspects, she whips out her detecting skills to find the real killer. Love Phryne, love the Jazz Age & love that this is Australian fiction.🇦🇺
