Friday on My Mind
Friday on My Mind | Nicci French
26 posts | 17 read | 5 to read
When a bloated corpse is found floating in the River Thames the police can at least sure that identifying the victim will be straightforward. Around the dead man's wrist is a hospital band. On it are the words Dr F. Klein. But psychotherapist Frieda Klein is very much alive. And, after evidence linking her to the murder is discovered, she becomes the prime suspect. Unable to convince the police of her innocence, Frieda is forced to make a bold decision in order to piece together the terrible truth before it's too late, either for her or for those she loves. Rich in intrigue, intensity and atmosphere, Friday on My Mindis classic Nicci French - a dark, gripping and sophisticated masterclass in psychological suspense in which nothing is quite what it seems . . . Praise for Nicci French: 'Nicci French is undeniably at the top of British psychological suspense writing.' Observer 'Tense, frightening, gripping.' Easy Living 'Magnificent.' Evening Standard 'A nerve-jangling and addictive read.' Daily Express

Frieda does some really, awfully stupid things in this, but by book five you are strapped in for the ride and just enjoy it.

The 5th book about Frieda Klein and in this one she is accused of murder. She goes into hiding to look into it and find out who the real killer is. I didn‘t see the ending coming at all.

1st book finished for #MarvellousMarch

Barney is going to kennels today before we go to Northumberland tomorrow so I'm bracing myself for lots of crying by finishing this in order to choose my holiday reading.
The 5th in the frieda klein series is another great page turning story with the psychotherapist accused of a murder and going on the run. With help from friends she tries to find the real killer with as always a cracking climax and the last few pages leaving you wanting more.

Oryx Barney is so adorable. Looks like a good boy. 3y

Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks Wow!!!!! 🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻 6y
Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks How do you do it and work?! 6y
Cathythoughts Unreal 👍🏻❤️ 6y
Andrew65 @Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks Helped this week as been off work for the week. Most average work weeks I‘m reading around 1600 - 1800 Pages. Not sure how I manage that because a very intensive and stressful job, primary school Principal (age 3 - 11). Reading is my time away from the stresses, my escapism and me time. Taking part in so many buddy and group reads helps, especially where I lead them as it forces me to have to read. 6y
Andrew65 @Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks Also helped by not watching television, 1 hr 20 mins a day audiobook time during the commute (extra if meetings to attend), a very supportive wife ❤️, my tunnel visioned focus, setting targets like this I just have to achieve, and not enough sleep! A long answer to a short question. 😂 6y
wanderinglynn Congrats! That‘s awesome! 👏🏻 6y
Andrew65 @Cathythoughts @EadieB @Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks @wanderinglynn Thanks, should meet the target today as have got a six hour drive home from Scotland. Gives me plenty of time to hopefully finish listening to The Miniaturist. (edited) 6y
CoverToCoverGirl Well done! Wish I was in Scotland! 6y
Andrew65 @CoverToCoverGirl Thanks. Always a lovely peaceful place to be. My happy place. (edited) 6y
Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks @Andrew65 I‘m so impressed!!! Also my dad was a primary school principal for many years!!! I need to set more goals. I work 12 hour shifts so it‘s hard on those days! (edited) 6y
Andrew65 @Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks Strange connections! 😊 It is targets that tend to drive me. Most days I leave around 7 and usually get home around 6.30 pm or later. 12 hour shifts are long! I try to ring fence some reading time each day and when tired and reading physically will send me to sleep I will resort to audiobooks. Hence my high volume of audiobooks in October. 6y
Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks @Andrew65 I really should try audiobooks!! 6y
jb72 Congratulations 🎈Those are some good goals. I think on Wednesday after this election is over (my husband is running for a local office), I‘ll set up some goals like that. 6y
Andrew65 @Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks Great for commuting and as I say when you are too tired to read, but you do have to choose which ones to do as audiobooks. Some work some don‘t. I quite like historical fiction and contemporary fiction in this format. The Help was simply brilliant! 6y
Andrew65 @jb72 Thanks 😊 Good luck for your husband. I find the goals keep me focused on the reading and prioritising!!! Very easy for life to take over! That‘s also why I take part in a number of Buddy Reads. (edited) 6y
Andrew65 @Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks It was someone a few years ago from the old Shelfari book website that introduced me to audiobooks. 6y

This is a very refreshing series, with each book feeling very different to the last. Frieda is quite a complex character, & she certainly has a lot happening to her & unfortunately has her enemies out there! Thankfully she has a good group of friends around there who are willing to put their very life on the line for her, & in this one they have to. There are some great characters in this series, and was good to see Frieda challenged in this one.

TrishB Great review 👍🏻 Frieda would be a challenging friend. 6y
Andrew65 @TrishB Thanks. She most definitely would! 👍 6y
EadieB @Andrew65 I agree! Nice review! 6y

A great start to a book, it has a map! Like the others in the series it has a map of one of London‘s hidden rivers - in this case the Earl‘s Sluice. Can‘t beat a map for bringing a book alive and giving you a sense of place.

Andrew65 I‘ve now finished the first section, it‘s a quick read! @Tove_Reads 6y
Tove_Reads Sandy 😔😢 Frieda does a better job with hiding her feelings as days go by. It‘s weird that Sandy was so brutally murdered. I also didn‘t know he was still that obsessed and calling Frieda daily. Really sad. 6y
Andrew65 @Tove_Reads A real shocker to hear he was the victim. 😢 He still did seem obsessed and I think she treated him really badly over this. I don‘t understand her reaction to being thought about as the murderer. Almost comes across as not human. Now do we think Dean did do it or someone else. All the books in this series are very different. 6y

Tove_Reads It‘s really getting weird. I have no clue what is going on. Hearing new sides of Sandy was interesting. 6y
Andrew65 @Tove_Reads Tgis one is a strange book, and Frieda‘s disappearance was strange too. 6y
Andrew65 Now finished the second section. 6y
Tove_Reads 🤔 I was only meant to read tomorrow‘s section tonight, but I accidentally finished the book 🤷🏼‍♀️ 6y

Happy Sunday everyone!🤗

Finally have some down time to read this weekend.
Trying to decide which one to start next🤔....they're both due back at the library in just a few days so there's a chance I might not get to read both. I've seen several posts/comments on 'The Mothers' so I'm very curious about it, BUT I love the Frieda Klein series and have been looking forward to this latest installment...Oh the dilemma!📖🙈📖.

I really love these books. Freida Klein is the type of main character I love rooting for. She knows herself and doesn't care what others think of her. I was pleasantly surprised by the ending of this one. Highly recommend but would definitely say start with the first in the series. It only took me a week or so to read all five books.
