Pickpick

This collection of short mysteries featuring early cases investigated by Inspector Montalbano is a low pick, as the quality of the stories are mixed. However, I always enjoy spending time with Montalbano and friends.

The setting on Sicily is perfect for prompt 8 (“Features the ocean“) of #52bookclub24.

Librarybelle This series is on my to read list. I‘m slowly working my way through the Donna Leon books first. 12mo

Crazeedi @Librarybelle Leon is soooo good, but I have to rate Camilleri even better! You will love!! If you can find audiobooks you will laugh, the reader is excellent!! 12mo
Crazeedi I love love love Montalbano!! Have you listened to any of his books? They are hilarious!! And there is an Italian TV series too! Subtitled but really fun 12mo
Librarybelle @Crazeedi Good to know!! 12mo
kwmg40 @Librarybelle @Crazeedi I too love the audiobooks! Grover Gardner is great. He also does a fantastic job with the sci-fi Vorkosigan series. And I second the TV adaptation recommendation! 12mo

I probably won't get through all of these, but here are my picks for the #CloakandDaggerChristmas challenge hosted by @Ruthiella:

1. An English Murder by Cyril Hare
2. The Maid by Nita Prose
3. Stockings and Spells by Nancy Warren
4. The Hidden Staircase by Carolyn Keene
5. A Small Death in Lisbon by Robert Wilson
6. 4:50 From Paddington by Agatha Christie
7. Death at Sea by Andrea Camilleri
8. Peril at Owl Park by Marthe Jocelyn

Ruthiella Ah, but I see you have cleverly used a few planned group reads! Great way to make the books do double duty! 👍 I was thinking if I fudged it, I could use the next Nancy Drew title for the “child detective” prompt. After all, she was only 16 in the original books. 🤔 13mo
kwmg40 @Ruthiella I too considered using the Nancy Drew title for the 8th title, but wanted an excuse to read the next book in the delightful Aggie Morton series. This one has a Christmas setting too! 13mo

quietjenn @kwmg40 the Aggie Morton is one of my possibilities as well, especially when I saw it was set at Christmas (and I already have it checked out from the library). 13mo
kwmg40 @quietjenn I had planned simply to read the next Aggie Morton book and it was a nice surprise to me too when I saw it was set at Christmas. Good timing! 13mo
jlhammar Oooh, nice list! I was also considering counting Nancy for the child detective prompt, but I‘ll hopefully get Flavia in. The Aggie Morton series sounds great! 13mo
LeahBergen I‘m hoping to get to An English Murder, too. 13mo
Texreader I am so looking forward to playing #wintergames with you for the #snowangels! ❄️ 👼 13mo

kwmg40 @Texreader @Emilymdxn I'm so looking forward to #wintergames with the #snowangels. It'll be fun if a number of us are doing this challenge together. 13mo
Emilymdxn I‘ll be having a go at it for sure! Winter is a great time for murder mysteries 🥰 13mo
kwmg40 @Emilymdxn Couldn't agree more! 13mo
Larkken I've never triedthe Aggie Morton series, maybe I'll try this one! I'm liking that it's set at Christmas... 13mo
Nessavamusic Very fun! 13mo

Pickpick

I loved this book of short stories involving Inspector Montalbano, but then again I love the whole Montalbano series. There are some quite intriguing plot lines in the various stories in the book and they show Montalbano at his most creative as he seeks to solve them. However like all short stories they left me wanting more and didn‘t give enough space to show off the traits of the other central characters to their full. Do give this series a try.

I usually have between 8 and 10 books on the go. W&P is perpetual - I chip away at it and never seem to finish. 😂 Decaf Juniper Latte with almond milk ☕️ My local cafe accidentally gave me caffeinated coffee about a year ago. Nobody wants caffeinated Patricia....

I have recently discovered I love mysteries. My 8 y.o. picked this one out for me and it‘s off to a strong start.

Reviewsbylola I love that your kid picked this out for you. ❤️ 6y
CarolynM I enjoy this series, probably more for the Montalbano character and the Sicillian setting than the actual mysteries 6y
