The Deaths of December
The Deaths of December: A cracking Christmas crime thriller | Susi Holliday
4 posts | 4 read | 5 to read
The hunt is on for a serial killer in this thrilling festive crime novel 'A cracking read. The perfect Christmas gift for crime fans' C. L. Taylor, author of The Lie 'A fun, festive twisted tale' Angela Clarke, author of Follow Me 'A festive cracker of a crime novel' Crass Green, author of In a Cottage in a Wood It looks like a regular advent calendar. Until DC Becky Greene starts opening doors...and discovers a crime scene behind almost every one. The police hope it's a prank. Because if it isn't, a murderer has just surfaced - someone who's been killing for twenty years. But why now? And why has he sent it to this police station? As the country relaxes into festive cheer, Greene and DS Eddie Carmine must race against time to catch the killer. Because there are four doors left, and four murders will fill them... It's shaping up to be a deadly little Christmas. ******************* What Goodreads reviewers are saying about The Deaths of December: 'What a beauty it is, a deeply twisted, festive murder, thriller, mystery with a good psychological twist to it.' 'Christmas books are normally romances so I enjoyed The Deaths of December for the anti Christmas twist. There is something about a killer on the loose when everyone is happy that racks up the tension.' 'The Deaths of December is the perfect festive read for those who like to be curled up in front of the fire with the lights down low ready to be thrilled and chilled in equal measure'

Mehso-so

DC Becky Greene receives some odd post at work - an advent calendar but behind every door is a photo from a crime scene. Is it a prank or is it real? An investigation into the photos reveals that they are real scenes & crimes & it seems someone has been killing for 20 years - one death a year in the month of December. Greene is paired with DS Eddie Carmine who has a link to one of the crimes. Can they catch the killer?

OutsmartYourShelf Good: the plot was quite interesting with the link to Christmas & the macabre 'advent calendar' of crime scenes. Bonus points also for the mentioning of 'American Gothic', the 1990s TV show starring Gary Cole. (Loved that show.) As soon as the name 'Lucas Buck' was mentioned, I knew. The not-so-good: I feel like the author was trying hard to force chemistry between the two police officers (Greene & Carmine) & it was just not happening. 3⭐ 3d

This had a good start and interesting premise but the ending really fell flat. #wintergames

Great character driven thriller/police procedural with an intimate look through the killers eyes. The narration of the serial killer cuts through the rest of the story like a hot knife while the police are always just one step behind.
