Recently reviewed this excellent retelling of 19 tales from 1001 nights- appropriate for today's #genieinabottle challenge, but i thought the one genie in a lamp story was one of the weaker ones. There was a good one about two djinns who have a friendly competition to seduce a prince and princess. No lamp or bottle involved though. #augustgrrrl @Cinfhen
If you're like me and you've never read any of 1001 Nights and have been curious but questioned your resolve- this is perfect: 19 tales selected and retold by a talented modern author. So unbelievably entertaining- an odd mix of fantastic and sometimes horrifying elements, yet it's got a silliness to it too. Blood, sex, love, and betrayal abound in these stories within stories but Scheherazade also sneaks in some feminist messages too.
DNF. Lots of sexist and misogynistic language by men in these stories (was intended to humorous, but far from it). One part was transphobic and there were some racist aspects in this book. From what I've heard about other editions of OTAON, I won't be reading them as well.

Hello Bookworms!
💕
What is the best translation of 1001 nights? Any opinions?
Oh, Aladdin... With his dreams of becoming a prince to win the hand of the princess and a genie under his command for three wishes, he is definitely a #KingOfWishfulThinking. #Characters2017
#magiccarpetride makes me think, of course, of Aladdin; which leads to Sheherazade and the One Thousand and One Nights. Top image is from Wikipedia of an Arabic manuscript dating back to the 14th century.

Not quite a #bookwithinabook, but it's got the same feel. One story is embedded in another, leading to another, which you can't really understand until you've heard this other story, and then you've forgotten just how it all started. No wonder Shahrazad kept her life! She's the greatest storyteller ever! #ReadJanuary
I passed 1k, what is this madness?! Was I the last one? Am I still uncool? 😜
Not feeling well enough this weekend to go rifling through all my books but luckily I have an old photo of blue books 📖 So here's a different version of an old photo. #somethingforsept #septphotochallenge #shadesofblue

Retellings of the classic Arabian tales
Fabulous. Stories within bawdy stories. Clever women and (sometimes) clueless men. Shimmering web of tales. The book ended too soon, my only complaint.
