The Appeal
The Appeal | John Grisham
#1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER In a crowded courtroom in Mississippi, a jury returns a shocking verdict against a chemical company accused of dumping toxic waste into a small towns water supply, causing the worst cancer cluster in history. The company appeals to the Mississippi Supreme Court, whose nine justices will one day either approve the verdictor reverse it. The chemical company is owned by a Wall Street predator named Carl Trudeau, and Mr. Trudeau is convinced the Court is not friendly enough to his interests. With judicial elections looming, he decides to try to purchase himself a seat on the Court. The cost is a few million dollars, a drop in the bucket for a billionaire like Mr. Trudeau. Through an intricate web of conspiracy and deceit, his political operatives recruit a young, unsuspecting candidate. They finance him, manipulate him, market him, and mold him into a potential Supreme Court justice. Their Supreme Court justice. BONUS: This edition includes an excerpt from John Grisham's The Litigators.

#WeekendReads #WeekendReading #WinterGames #XmasChaCha

🤞🏻🤓to put a nice dent in🏷️ book as well as ‘Profiler‘ - currently my only open reads. I also really want to start a few new ones this weekend.

‘Miss Moriarty, I Presume‘ is a Libby loan, ‘Mr. & Mrs. Christmas‘ an audible (both expiring soon😬😥) & ‘The Christmas Bookshop‘ a physical from my shelves.

🎄: 5

Mehso-so

I just finished and it left me so mad!

This author used to just write a good story. He would have action and definite good guys and bad guys . . . lately though he has a good enough following that he has decided that he is going to write whatever the heck he wants because he knows that people will buy and read his books anyway. I suppose I am an example of that!

This is the first time I‘ve read this book since going to law school (I think). I am very grateful to live in a place where judges aren‘t elected (not saying appointments aren‘t political). This is a very good read. I‘m left feeling appalled by how corrupt about judicial elections can be, if that wasn‘t obvious from my opening sentence lol. EDIT: added the cover picture (I first wrote this at about 2:00 AM).

Going back to my re-read stack and my declutter project for a bit, starting with another Grisham. As an aside, I‘ve been thinking about how to make my Litsy more fun and I‘m going to try stepping up my game with hashtags. #johngrisham #reread #backcover

The audiobook expires in a few hours so I need to get in the #audiocoloring zone.

#audiocoloring is actually rather addictive. Coloring book: Route 66 Neon Coloring Book Vol. 1 by Danny Martin.

mrozzz That's a genius idea! Audio + coloring. Because I rarely have time for either unless I'm doing something else but it'd be way more mindful put together!! 7y
saguarosally @mrozzz I just borrowed the idea from @BookishMarginalia :) 7y
