On Thin Icing
On Thin Icing: A Bakeshop Mystery | Ellie Alexander
16 posts | 10 read | 17 to read
Welcome to Torte-a small-town family bakeshop where the treats are killer good. It's the dead of winter in the sleepy town of Ashland, which means no tourists-and fewer customers-for Jules Capshaw and her bakery. But when she's asked to cater an off-season retreat for the directors of the Oregon Shakespeare Festival, business starts heating up...until Jules finds a dead body in the freezer. "An intriguing new series."-Reader to Reader Someone at the retreat has apparently iced the bartender, a well-known flirt with a legendary temper-that is, before a killer beat him to the punch. Then, from out of nowhere, Jules's own ex-husband shows up at the shop-and soon becomes a suspect. With accusations piling up higher than the snow-and thicker than a chocolate mousse cake-Jules has to think outside the (recipe) box to find the real culprit...and make sure he gets his just desserts. "A delectable tale of murder and intrigue."-Portland Book Review on Meet Your Baker

I‘m absolutely failing at my #readordonate and my #readyourkindle - it‘s like I finished my #SciFiBookClub read and then had nothing left 😂

julieclair It‘s impossible to fail at #ReadOrDonate ! At the end of the month, if you haven‘t read it, you donate it. Done! 😀 1mo

Choosing this for my Feb #seasonalcozies because Feb marks Sturgeon Spearing in WI- one of the only places in the world with the tradition, and the state of our ice is terrible 😂

Also choosing this for my Feb #readordonate in an effort to not overextend myself 🤣

julieclair I think that will probably be the most unique reason behind a book choice for the entire year! 😂 But I am sorry to hear the Wisconsin ice is thin and such a special tradition will suffer as a result. 2mo
BethM @julieclair haha you‘re probably right about it being the most unique! 2mo

#BookReport Finished Mansfield Park a little early...not my favorite Austin. The Candymakers was fun and On Thin Icing was ok for # BakedGoodsontheCover for #Booked2021. Should finish Force of Nature this week for #SetinAustralia for the last Winter prompt. Should finish my other two current reads this week as well. I feel like I haven‘t read anything with depth in a while. Need to fix that.

Cinfhen Awesome progress for #Booked2021 Just a heads-up You have until midnight, April 3 to fill out the first quarter form to be entered in our drawing ?

#bookspinbingo #2 @TheAromaofBooks

Been a while since I last posted a book review. This is book #3 in the Bakeshop Mystery Cozy Series and it didn‘t disappoint. Now that I know Ashland is an *actual* place (what ikr?)..I can‘t wait to visit the place minus the murders lol. Until then these series should suffice. :)

Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5

TheAromaofBooks Yay!!! 4y
wanderinglynn I‘ve been to Ashland. 👍🏻 The US Fish and Wildlife forensics lab (the only wildlife forensics lab in the world) is located there. I‘d like to go back for their Shakespeare festival. 4y
i.besteph @wanderinglynn wow I didn‘t know that. The place is sounding more and more interesting. I have to go visit it at least once. 😍 4y

If you are a fan of cozies then this series should be your jam! I love how with every book the characters get a little deeper and she always leaves you guessing right up until the very end. Plus, there are always yummy recipes in the back for you to try! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

If you love cozy mysteries, you will love Ellie Alexander‘s bakeshop series. Great characters, good plot, fun location in Ashland Oregon at the Shakespeare festival.

#MarchMunchies #StickyBuns I'm not against cinnamon rolls or sticky buns (I guess the difference is sticky buns usually have nuts on the bottom) but they aren't something I crave or eat often. Checking the blog, I did make Ina's Easy Sticky Buns in '09 (hence the poor photos) 😆This cozy series is set in a bakery & Jules & her mom make sticky buns & rolls for Torte. In this book (#3) there's a recipe for Orange Cardamom Rolls with or without nuts.

DeborahSmall This is my type of bun 😍 6y
Dolly Mine too!😋 6y
Shadowfat I never thought of putting cardamom in a bun, it sounds delicious! 6y

This series has really inspired me to get my counters dirty. Keto bread and cookies. 😊 I enjoyed the third in the series with its different setting, new dishes and free recipes. Excited to see there will be a fourth book coming out. On to the next cozy! #ilovecozies #cozymonth

MidnightBookGirl Oooh, Keto cookies? They look yummy! 7y
Erika13137 @MidnightBookGirl they were okay. I got the recipe from Reddit but I will need to play around with it. 7y

The 3rd book in this foodie cozy mystery set in Ashland, OR has Jules catering a weekend retreat at a snowy resort. The sleazy resort bartender turns up dead, Jules estranged husband shows up, as does her old boyfriend & cop Thomas & a snowstorm has them all stuck. This was not my favorite of the three books, I think because I get a little tired of hearing how sexy her Spanish husband is & how unsettled he makes her but still a fun read overall.👍

Ruri_kaichou Man, I love those titles! 7y
BethFishReads Love these kind of cozies 7y
SaraFair I love this kind of cozy too! Trying all kinds from the used bookstore. Food and dogs are my favs so far, thanks for the new idea! 7y
DebinHawaii @Ruri_kaichou @BethFishReads @SaraFair The titles are fun and the stories are too. Foodie cozies are my favorite! 📚🍴👍 7y

Kicking back on the first night of 2017 with a snack/dessert & a third book (what can I say....I'm a moody reader!). Hot coconut mint chocolate with whipped cream & a shot of peppermint schnapps and my beloved Lu cookies. Far better than frobscottle and snozzcumber in my opinion. 😆 Oh yeah, I am also watching The BFG on Netflix. It's very cute. I may have to do a reread of Dahl's book after watching it. 💜

B.Reader We watched The BFG last night. Love it! 7y
BookInMyHands I always look forward to your book and food pairings! 7y
Lizpixie That looks soooo good! And my daughter, who's 19 btw, is obsessed with the BFG. She just got it on Bluray & made me & the hubby sit together in the lounge room and watch it with her. She was so excited, and there were tears too. She's so adorable. Sometimes!?oh, and she did the "that's not like the book!" thing too.❤️ 7y
