FULL REVIEW IN MY BLOG: http://abookandateacup.blogspot.com/2020/09/review-i-believe-in-thing-called-lov...

I have mixed feelings about this book. Sure, it made me laugh, and had a lot of heartwarming moments, but it also made me remember why I don‘t usually read YA contemporaries. It wasn‘t even on my TBR, although, as you know, sometimes you need a dose of romcom to leave the world outside and forget what a mess everything is around you.

Desi is our female lead in the story and she's a bit of an over-achiever, straight A student who has never been successful in any of her advances on getting a boyfriend. But that all changes when she meets Luca, a hunky, mysterious, artist who she completely embarrassed herself upon their first meet, yikes. That doesn't stop Desi though as she creates a list of steps based on kdramas to achieve her first boyfriend- if all doesn't backfire for her.

4/5 for this ya romcom! I thought this book was adorable. There were so many hilarious and cute parts. I loved Desi. She is a flawed over achiever. Her dad is just so awesome. Luca is a cutie. I love the kdrama! I definitely recommend this and will be reading more by this author.

I can say that this book is a light book really like a cloud ☁️🌻
And it's a perfect summer read 💙☁️
I liked the relation between Desi and her father, the cozy family time they spend watching KDramas just like we do 😂
If you are a K-Drama fan this book is for you else it will introduce you to the K-Drama world.
Loved it¡¡
Also I'm so in love with the cover 😍🌻
Hope everyone is doing fine 🌞🌄⛱

This book is fun! I love Maurene Goo and this one is probably my favorite. The main character tries to use lessons from K Dramas to improve her love life. (All of the author‘s titles come from pop songs) #Believe #BiblioMAYnia

I haven't watched K-drama, but this would be a great way to introduce younger students to the notion of genre. The protagonist's touching relationship with her dad is something else that strikes me as setting it above the average YA.

I unintentionally had a Korean-American book marathon as this book and Frankly in Love came off hold at the same time. It was a relief to have such a wonderful & adorable father-daughter relationship in this novel after the tension of Frankly in Love. I appreciated Goo's concept where a perfectionist student comes up with a step-by-step solution to getting a boyfriend based on K-Dramas. Plenty of cutesty moments, but it was also over the top. 👇🏼

Kaylamburson I was a bit disappointed in the way the Desi tried to win back Luca. She clearly didn't learn her lesson, and it was so extreme and just plain stupid. Luca forgave her too quickly after that stunt, but I was still enraptured to the very end. 5y

Last year I wanted to buy more books to get ready for book talks.

Desi Lee was a disaster at flirting with guys, especially Lukas. Until one day, her father introduced her to K-drama, which she quickly became obsessed with. She saw it as guidance, and formulated a plan to hopefully win Lukas heart.

OMG This book was just adorable. I have been a fan of telenovelas for a while now and this one based on K Dramas was just as good if not better. This reminded me of the TV show Jane the Virgin and I would love this to hit the tv screens as a movie or short series. If you are looking for a great read to enjoy at the pool side or beach look no further than this one right here.

Book 1 in Asian readathon-5 challenges. This challenge was to read a book by an Asian author. The story is about a 17y/o person who used to control everything in her life including to get a boyfriend & to be loved. She will learn that you cannot control everything. I liked the cultural traditions mentioned, relationship between daughter-father & concept Flailure (do I have that🤔)But story was poor, superficial, forced.2⭐️from so-so to pan.

This was such a cute and fun YA Romantic Comedy! Desi believes that everything has a plan. She knows what she wants to do. But when she meets the hottest guy Luca she knows she wants to get to know him better but she doesn't know how to go about it. So she studies the Korean dramas that her dad loves to watch. But when the fun in games of getting to know him turns into real feeling she finds what it really means to find true love!

Okay okay, second book from author and i like it!

I love Asian dramas, and i have been watching mostly Korean dramas. So this book intrigued me.

What does a student body president with dreams of becoming a doctor do her final year of high school? Why get a boyfriend of course! So she studies the dramas, she didn't understand why her dad loves, to find a way. But does it actually work?

bullbunny I wish there was just a tad more room. I loved that I knew the dramas mentioned throughout the book. Though I have only watched one. And I discovered new dramas too! I love Asian dramas. Because they are as short as 6 or as long as 55. And they do not have endless seasons like shows in America. It is like a book being acted out, with the subtitles I love it! 6y

This YA rom com was so over the top at some points I just couldn‘t fully get behind it. Which I guess is the point since main character Desi Lee uses tropes of K dramas in order to snag her first boyfriend before she graduates high school. It was a cute & funny read mostly & I could relate to the college application stress. It also had a wonderful depiction of a father/daughter relationship which is something I don‘t see a lot of in this genre.

So... I thought I would love this book with the start being so promising but the longer it went on the less love I felt. The main character Desi is trying to win the guy using K Dramas to plot out a path to love. It‘s a cute concept until there‘s a ton of manipulation causing a accident and dangerous situations. The most endearing part of the story was the father/daughter relationship but it couldn‘t make up for her actions in the end.

I wanted to add a picture because I love the cover, but it wasn‘t loading on my Kindle. Anyway, this book was funny, but Desi‘s plan was rather manipulative and I‘m not into that. I feel like she could have really grown as a person, but she just says “I love you” and suddenly everything‘s alright again? It just doesn‘t seem like a healthy relationship... But now I really want to watch a K Drama.

I did not care for this book. The main character was struck me wrong. The plot was full of tropes, which it seemed like it was trying to play on but it actually just played to. Predictable and sort of cringey.

For #Heartsandhardcovers #kidsinlove I thought about posting Romeo and Juliet, but really, that's a terrible example of love! Take a breath, kids! Instead, here's the most recent YA romance I've read. This one is fun and a lot more psychologically healthy! @Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks

MallenNC @brennahawleycraig This is my third year! I do it with @OriginalCyn620 The first year we only let a book count for one thing but now we let it count for up to three. Makes it a little easier bc I'm always getting derailed by library books! (edited) 7y
brennahawleycraig @MallenNC oh smart!! I only count for one, but I got pretty burnt out last year doing both that and book riot. I‘m trying harder to read what I want and see where it fits. 7y
MallenNC @brennahawleycraig It really helps it not feel like such a chore. I'm doing this one and, for the first time, Modern Mrs. Darcy, which is only 12 prompts. Book Riot I've tried but it seems too much. Maybe next year! Good luck with your challenge! 7y

Oh man, I really wanted to like this more. I liked the diversity and Desi‘s relationship with her dad was so sweet, but I don‘t think her character grew as much as I had hoped. I think I wanted more focus on her grieving her mom‘s death that loomed over the story.

These are all my January reads. It was a great month for reading, thanks to two snowstorms, a holiday, and a readathon. I read 13 books total, 4 were nonfiction (I guess Fire and Fury counts here!), 4 were audiobooks, and 4 were YA or children's. I enjoyed most of these, but the tagged book was the most fun so I'm choosing it for best of the month. #PopSugar18 #MMDchallenge #Nonfiction2018
