I read The Star-Touched Queen to complete the May prompt for The Uncorked Librarian Challenge. I might have cheated a little because the prompt was to read a book set in India. I loved the premise of the story, but the character development and plot felt a little flat. I didn‘t hate my time reading it, but it doesn‘t feel memorable.

Wow...This was not what I expected in such a good way.

I deeply appreciate the beauty of Roshani Choski‘s writing. She is both straightforward and elegant.

The writing is exquisite but the plot got away from the author towards the end. Chaos.

This was really close to a pick for me. It was beautifully written and the story was good. I spent a lot of time being confused and irritated at the mc though. 🤷🏻‍♀️

I really found myself drawn into this book and learning just what exactly was going on. I loved the writing of this book. Some of the things just kind of struck me and I found myself re-reading them because I liked them so much. The weaving together of the culture and belief of reincarnation was superb and so well done. Definitely recommend.

Normally I'd be irritated if I lent someone a like-new book and they returned it all beat-up. 😆 However, this was a student who claimed to enjoy the book, so I'm just happy I could share some literary love! 💜

Absolutely gorgeous writing. The whole thing felt like a prose poem. And I loved hearing stories based in Indian folklore, something I know almost nothing about. Highly recommend! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I thought the story well-conceived, kind of a Daughter of Smoke and Bone meets Persephone in India. The language was a bit too florid for me and detracted from my connection with the characters.

Ooh, this is a good one. So vivid & beautifully written. Dark fantasy, bloody & brutal, but also pulsing with life. Made me set aside all the other books I was reading to focus on this riveting story.

I'd describe this as a romantic fantasy based on Hindu mythology. What worked for me, against all reason, was the romance. Please believe me when I say that I have never been moved by a romantic story. There are a lot of twists and turns which you'll love if you're unfamiliar with the mythology but enjoyable even otherwise. Most importantly, I found my new favorite animal sidekick- Kamala, the flesh eating horse. The sass queen we don't deserve.

Exactly what I needed. I read this while referring everything to my really good friend. She‘s from India and because there are so many languages and mythological creatures it was so much fun hearing what she refers to things and what things she never heard of before. I loved the world building and the huge twist in the middle! The relationships really got to me and made me love it even more! Curious to see if I‘ll like the sequel just as much!

Don‘t know why I still get so entertained when the author uses the title in a book but here it is 😂

Okay wow I legit didn't remember any of this from my first read. Really romantic writing style and interesting story overall. Parts were a bit cheesy but I think the writing really did suit that

I remember loving this book but nothing of it so time for a reread since Roshani is going to be in the TBR and Beyond group in January

Loved this book, great storyline and very easy to get into! 5/5

I was so excited to read this and it just didn't live up to the hype for me. The prose and detail was beautiful but I truly just couldn't get into the story, I struggled to keep my reading momentum going with this. I love the concept and the idea of the story, but something just wasn't working for me.

This was just ok. Excellent world-building but I felt I didn't really get to know any characters well enough to be emotionally invested in the story. Relationships also seemed forced.

This was on my TBR for ages. It starts of slow for a bit, but from the middle of the book, the twists get more and more complicated and captivating. Looking forward to reading Crown of Wishes.

I loved this book!! Maya is a terrific character. I loved getting swept up in this book. I could barely put it down. The descriptions in this book were beautiful and made it so easy for me to picture it in my head. What a great story. #24in48

This was one of the #FreakyFriday books I never got around to reading. Such an incredibly complex fantasy story but so enjoyable to read. 😊

I'm kind of floored by the low rating on GR for this. Incredibly interesting glimpse into Indian folklore and Hindu mythology. The magic was cool, lots of mystery and some beautiful writing.

A very pretty book with interesting ideas... but I felt like it was empty. No real meat to it. I think if it was focused on something other than romance, it would be more fulfilling.

About half way through. I‘m trying to #diversify my reading, both in ethnicity/origin of story and genre.

When this came across my spectrum I originally said “eh... it‘s a romance I‘ll skip”. However, the library had it out on display and decided to give it a try.

It‘s okay so far. I don‘t care about the romance, but her world is interesting. #indian #romance
