One of my favorite gothic horrors received in the mail today, Folio Society‘s version of Frankenstein purchased as a late Christmas gift from my wife! This will have permanent home in my collection. ❤️

This masterpiece displays the relevance to modern day tech and materialism. Beware of man whom is motivated by selfish desires to “advance” the state of humanity as it could lead to the destruction of those he/she wished to advance. Maintain a moderate and healthy balance in life. An example that simplicity while being a good steward, having integrity and being respectful to your fellow man are undoubtedly undervalued in our current society.

I really enjoyed this book. I was worried I would have a hard time with the language, as is often the case with classics. But this was quite easy to read. It also helped that this edition had glossary for the more antiquated words and phrases. #100essentialnovels #Screamathon 😱 @4thhouseontheleft

TEArificbooks My son is reading this for school. I am rereading it with him. 3y

I‘ve taking part in the #5daysofspookyandbookishtags over on Instagram and my blog for #blackoweenathon. Today‘s prompt was Hocus Pocus and I wrote about why I‘d want to go trick-or-treating with Mary Shelley and Kiersten White. Here‘s the link if you‘re curious: https://readingstewardess.wordpress.com/2020/10/08/hocus-pocus-tag/

Here‘s my college book list. I was an English major, so there were lots of options for this list! I tried to pick books that have both stuck with me and were actually assigned reading (rather than ones I sought out myself and read for fun).

Deifio I couldn't finish Frankenstein, developed a hate for Victor. I think my life experience as a mother ruined that book for me. Was on my English major list too though ☺️ 4y
Kimberlone @Deifio it‘s not one I would have picked out for myself, but it was assigned in my History of Criticism class, and I think approaching it from a critical perspective really helped me to appreciate the deeper themes of the book. Also it‘s so badass that it was written by a woman. Highly recommend the Drunk History episode that covers the origin of the writing of it! 4y
Cinfhen I like how some books have remained standards but as time evolved so do the reading lists!! 4y

Tonight I audio-crafted. I listened to the tagged book while finishing up decorations for my desk at work. Any guesses on what my costume is this year lol?

+1 for #TeamStoker (I‘m still working on the book). #scarathlon

julesG @Tonton 🙉 4 syllables? It's 3 syllables in German and there is absolutely no variation on the pronunciation. 5y
Caroline2 Oh so if he pronounces it different then that will stop the comparisons....? Yeah right mate, dream on!! 😂 5y
Tonton @julesG @Caroline2 just a joke referring to usually used pronunciation for the movie 🎥 .Saying if I had the name、 would not pronounce it ‘steen‘ but would. pronounce it as ‘stein‘ like Victor and have FUN when people compare or ask. (Yep、 3 syllables not 4, too used to phonetic Japanese、 sorry. ) 5y
