A fun retelling of sleeping beauty and also the only thing I got done today.
A fun retelling of sleeping beauty and also the only thing I got done today.
Such a fun, feminist, romp through space and fairytale. When galactic princess Rory Thorne‘s naming day is attended by 13 fairies (one of them uninvited) she is gifted with all the usual feminine wiles, as well as the ability to see through misogynistic bullsh*t. When she has to prematurely ascend the throne, she also sets out to pull down the patriarchy. So much fun, and already on to book 2!
In this years goal to trim down my TBR, I picked this book up from where it‘s been sitting on my shelf for 3 years.
This book was a light, feminist, fairy tale-inspired political intrigue that I didn‘t have to think too hard about. Which is great, because political intrigue books aren‘t my cup of tea. Definitely recommend!
Once the heir to the interplanetary Thorne Consortium, Rory Thorne finds herself replaced by a younger brother & betrothed to the prince of a distant planet to cement the end of a years long war. This fairy tale in space features a princes who does the rescuing, no damsel in distress here, along with an entertaining group of bodyguards, rebellious sons, & a vizier who is more than he seems. Some pacing issues but this was an entertaining read.
Going with the destruction of the multiverse for my next read…
I just wasn't enjoying this. Lots of boring telling, not showing.
What I read of it, read like a first draft.
Reading through the 2 and 3 star reviews on Goodreads was fun though.
Super behind on reviews.
I have mixed feelings about this one. The story was interesting and had a great mix of sci-fi and magic. However, I would have been okay never reading it.
Also, I did my normal speed up to 1.75x and the narrator sounded like a robot.. so I could only listen when doing very specific things.
#noshamereadathon - Space opera
This was my last recommendation from #BookRiot #GetTBR
June 2021 - audio urban different - it was fun. Read it with a friend they didn‘t get it weird little book
My September #bookspin #bookspinbingo card! Crossed off a free space for Imaginary Numbers which I finished earlier. Failed every month so far so let's see what I can do for September!
@TheAromaofBooks
Why is no one talking about this book? Everything in this was awesome! I loved the characters and the high key feminism and the messing with tropes and just...everything!
Okay I need to take a break from true crime for a day or two so I'm heading to space!
She brought me a book too 😂
#Ispy a book with space on the cover @Chrissyreadit 😁👏🏽
Are we still going? @MaleficentBookDragon @teebe @TK421 @Bklover @BethM can you find a book with an unusual monster or creature on the cover??
I managed to finish 17 books this month in large part due to the fact that I spent all the time I normally do on gaming on reading instead.
2 ebooks
15 physical
I'm now at a total of 2270 points for my #BuriedAliveChallenge with an average of 113 points per qualifying book.
Top three for this month would probably be Rory Thorne, Ghost Roads duology, and Knife of Dreams.
#FebruaryWrapUp
The book was interesting but it did drag in a few places. There‘s a literary element and so if you don‘t like slow builds and lots of description this is not the book for you.
Finally finished the book. This is the last quote from it and I think it‘s a good one. Courage is difficult to choose because you never know what‘s coming.

“How Rory Thorne Destroyed the Multiverse” by K. Eason 🪐😘👑👗
#scifi #sff #keason #howrorythornedestroyedthemultiverse
I really liked the image that Eason presented. A ghost of a reflection in space
Like the wish that I would finish this book last weekend. Whelp - another day - another hope that I‘ll finish the book soon. Honestly it‘s not a terrible book, I‘ve just been really busy and the book has gotten away from me.
This is something I hope I could attribute to myself one day.
More great insight.
Update: my plan is to try and finish reading How Rory Thorn Destroyed the Multiverse by the end of the week and hopefully some time next week I‘ll have a new book with new quotes. Any suggestions for a new read are welcome. Currently thinking of reading "Don‘t Kill the Farm Boy"
This is what I would wish for my children. Brought tears to my eyes.
Just started the first chapter and really enjoying it so far. I need a good one after a run of hmmm okay reads
Got to be careful living that princess life
It‘s a much better way of saying "well that‘s what it would be like if you were used to living in the dirt"
Calluses on his spirit? That made me pause
This was a whole lot of fun that started off as a kind of fairytale riff that became galactic politic saga. Rory was a great character that seemed to come into her own despite her inexperience. There was a complete ending and yet it‘s obviously the start of something bigger that I can‘t wait to explore. I made the mistake of starting at 10 pm and ended reading the whole thing through. RIP my sleep pattern.

This seems like such a grandiose description but I‘m here for it. Lols 🤣🤓
Space travel is crazy to think about and the future is wild
Even in the future politicians are just older versions of children. Lols
This insult was so sassy and startling I fell in love with it to the point where I forgot to think that in the far flung future they might not have graveyards because they have to come up with a new system for dealing with the dead due to a potentially higher volume in population size. Yeah I‘m going to have to remember this one 🤓😋
This really stuck out to me and I liked this quote a lot. It feels kind of timeless
The idea of "putting silence on" was really interesting and relatable. There are definitely times when you realize it‘s better to be quiet even if it‘s not representative of your feelings so you just do it.
I‘ve seen this book in a few places and from what I‘ve seen people like it. I also kind of love the cover.
It was a wondering thought that caught my attention on the page. I felt like it was a nice way to question how far humanity can go and still dance on the edge of their own destruction.
A great gift for anyone!
Jumping into this fairy tail retelling and then stopped when I read this because I was like "this is too real. " In other news - the book is good so far and has an interesting feel as if it‘s kind of a literary novel but we‘ll see how that progresses.
- got to keep on reading ?
The next adventure awaits. From a look through classic monster literature to a sci-fi look at Rapunzel. Although I‘m not sure how close it‘ll keep to the Rapunzel tropes but that‘s part of the fun of the journey.
I was all in for this book when I picked it up - fairytale tropes subverted in space! the cover! - but in practice this was an absolute chore for me to read. A so-so and not a pan for originality and for making me care what happens to Rory even when I was bored.

Stumbled upon this at Barnes today, so..... yeah. Now it‘s mine. 😁
Anyone read this??
I was surprised by how much I liked this. The cover didn‘t really give anything away. But the narrative tone is light, the world is interesting, and several characters are likable.
Believe it or not, this book is a political thriller...and a fun one. The book is very self-aware and sometimes that doesn‘t work. It does here though.
There is an old adage, among generals and schoolteachers, that no plan, however well-constructed, survives contact with the enemy.
I went to Barnes and Noble yesterday to pick up a board game and walked out with two bags of stuff. Surprisingly, only one book! I started reading this and was hooked in the first chapter.
I also visited a cat cafe and pet all the kitties, including four month old kittens. It was a good day!
