Cold Storage
Cold Storage: A Novel | David Koepp
For readers of Andy Weir and Noah Hawley comes an astonishing debut by the screenwriter of Jurassic Park: a wild and terrifying adventure about three strangers who must work together to contain a highly contagious, deadly organism When Pentagon bioterror operative Roberto Diaz was sent to investigate a suspected biochemical attack, he found something far worse: a highly mutative organism capable of extinction-level destruction. He contained it and buried it in cold storage deep beneath a little-used military repository. Now, after decades of festering in a forgotten sub-basement, the specimen has found its way out and is on a lethal feeding frenzy. Only Diaz knows how to stop it. He races across the country to help two unwitting security guardsone an ex-con, the other a single mother. Over one harrowing night, the unlikely trio must figure out how to quarantine this horror again. All they have is luck, fearlessness, and a mordant sense of humor. Will that be enough to save all of humanity?

I only got 4 chapters into this before I knew it wasn't for me. I don't like casual infidelity, so the lead mc was a turnoff for me from the start. Maybe he got better later, but I didn't find the story interesting enough to carry on.

Quick read, something different...
A highly mutative killer fungus stored underground for decades finds itself in prime conditions to escape it's underground prison. Former bioterror agent Roberto Diaz comes to the rescue of the now 24 hour storage facilities employees Teacake and Naomi to save the world.

#BookSpinBingo @TheAromaofBooks

David Koepp delivers an excellent fast-paced thriller that I couldn't put down once I started it. Some of the science is a little vague to fit the storyline, but I can overlook that for an entertaining read. The book involves a fungus that is growing due to climate change and has become a threat to humans.

It was fast, fun, and reads like a good sci-fi movie.

TheAromaofBooks Ooo sounds fun!!! Stacked!! 3y

I don't know how realistic the science is in this one, but it was tons of fun. So much so that I went looking for more books by Koepp, which unfortunately I didn't find.

Had to get a copy of this, it sounds outrageously good!! 🦠🧫☣

Anyone read this one??

TracyReadsBooks Haven‘t read it but I agree, it sounds good! 4y
MsMelissa I bailed on it. Didn‘t like the main male character. I don‘t need to like a character to read a book, but I knew he was going to irritate me the entire book so I just bailed to avoid that 😂 4y
aperfectmjk I almost bought this over the weekend, but decided not to because it's available for borrow on both Libby and Hoopla, so I decided I better not. It does sound very good though. 4y

In the outbacks, festered a fungus,
Unsupervised, rampage became rambunctious.
Until cold storage made it numbly toungeless.
30 yrs & global warming has fed it's ample vengeance.
A fast, taut SciFi with multiple POVs, the plot holds no stray details that derails the setting.Koepp keeps the reader fully engaged with believable and engaging characters with occasional sprinkles of humour. Eventhough the ending is a cliche, it still gets my upvote !!

I finished this over a week ago, but haven‘t had the motivation to write a review. So here‘s a short, unplanned one: Cold Storage is a fun, action-packed book about a deadly fungus that can mutate at unbelievable rates. The characters and pacing are great, and the ending was satisfying (although a tad cheesy). 4🌟 This was my #doublespin book for May!

From the screenwriter/director of Jurassic Park and Panic Room, horror/fun/science book about a moving fungus that can take over the world. Don‘t know how but he has made this concept a good fast book to read. Good characters who all interlink to have a good ending. This fungus is no Blob, it mutates to get smarter.🥴

A deadly fungus wreaks havoc in Missouri as two night guards of a storage facility fight to stat alive. The author used humor to talk about the fungus, the three main characters and the minor characters that the fungus takes over.
Excellent read and at times scary as hell as i thought about what would happen if this was real. David Koepp does a great job of getting inside the readers head! #TeamSlaughter #Book6 @Clwojick

Really enjoyed this sci fi thriller set in Kiwikurra, Aust..everyone has died, their bodies blown apart by a fungus that infects everything it touches. Scarey, and engaging, written by man who wrote Jurrasic Park.

So i am adding a rule for MY OWN book fitness challenge. I have to get a workout in before I am allowed to read. I like reading so its enjoyable and something easy. But working out is hard so I have to do the workout first. @wanderinglynn @4thhouseontheleft @LapReader @Lucy_Anywhere

I think it‘s important to know that Koepp is a screenwriter going into this, because it makes a few of the obvious mistakes a bit more bearable. It‘s fun, but it‘s also dumb, and sometimes that‘s exactly what you need to read. Between pick and so-so for me, and I‘m going to round up.

A capsule from the remains of Skylab contains a deadly fungus mutated by being in space. It gets loose, is contained, then may be loose again. Fast-paced, cinematic (written by a screenwriter, natch), and fun, this book is all plot with a bit of a silly ending, but I had a great time with it. A fun palette cleanser.

Ashley_Nicoletto Great review! I have this one on audio, and can‘t wait to get to it. 5y

🎧 pretty good book! It‘s about an alien man made fungal lifeform that falls to earth with Skylab that uses mind control to propagate & eats living things ... people. Yes you‘ve probably heard this plot before but it‘s worth a listen/read. Technical when it comes to the fungus, funny, quick read. 😁 ⭐️⭐️⭐️3/4

I almost stopped reading after the first couple of chapters because the MC, Robert Diaz, was coming across as a bit of a whiny AH. Eventually it did turn out to be a fairly entertaining read, even if you have to suspend your disbelief. 3⭐️

Thanks to NetGalley & publishers, HQ, for the opportunity to read an ARC. #NetGalley

A blend of Robin Cook & Stephen King. (I could have gone with less Stephen King.) Suspenseful. Definitely horror genre. David Koepp is the screenwriter of numerous films, such as “Jurassic Park“& Spider-Man“. This is his first novel & it shows with the lack of character development. But the characters are likeable – most of them. The dialogue is great, loads of action, & there are actually quite a few comical moments mixed in there.
