All Are Welcome is a book about inclusivity, specifically in the classroom. Children from all different cultures are illustrated in vibrant colors. I really like the style of drawing in the illustrations, as it shows enough detail that you can see diversity without looking too realistic.

Review:
This book uses colors to make the characters stand out against the white background. The use of repetition is also used. The author says, “You are welcome here“ on every page or so. Space is used as a way of making the moral of the story stand out so that it is not getting lost in the background.

I would use this book at the very beginning of the year with students of all ages as a reminder that everyone is unique, and that that is something that will not only be accepted in the classroom, but encouraged and celebrated. It is important to remind students that their life experiences do not look like everyone else's and that it is important to be open to learning about and understanding different ideas, perspectives, customs, and values.

“All Are Welcome“ is a picture book that uses lots of variety within all elements of design in order to portray its main message that diversity and uniqueness is something to celebrate and will always be welcome in the classroom. For example, thin/thick and curvy/straight lines, every vibrant color in the rainbow, different sizes and shapes of pictures representing different perspectives are all used to help emphasize the main message of diversity

This #1 New York Times selling picture book celebrates diversity & inclusivity in the classroom. This would be a fantastic RA for the first day (or week) of school to ensure everyone in your class feels welcomed. This RF picture book allows children to find themselves & their families within the pages. The mirror aspect is what makes this book so powerful & inviting. Our students differences should be loved and celebrated within the classroom.🙌🏼

Students would best comprehend this RA using the UDL principle 3.1(activate or supply background knowledge)& principle 3.2 (highlight patterns, critical features, big ideas,& relationships); EL strategy 1(use pre-reading activities to activate former knowledge)& EL strategy 6(check for word/ sentence recognition) #UCFLAE3414SP21 4y

All Are Welcome is a wonderful book for inclusion and diversity in the classroom. This can be beneficial for the first day of school to represent the differences in each student, and to help make these differences feel welcome. This book walks through the a day of school, showing a multitude of different cultures, races, and religions, and re-enforces that they all are welcome. This is also great for incorporating social-emotional learning!

OliviaBuck The genre of this book is realistic fiction. This link is to a great resource of how to implement this book into your first day of class https://images.randomhouse.com/promo_image/9780525579649_7097.pdf. UDL 9.1- Provide options for self regulation: Develop self-assessment and reflection goes with this resource because students are reflecting on themselves and what makes them different. 4y
OliviaBuck ESOL Strategy 24- incorporate the culture and language of second language learners in your classroom also goes along with this resource because students are sharing their culture with the class. This book was amazing and I highly suggest adding it to your classroom library!! #ucflae3414sp21 (edited) 4y

AlexRobinson Olivia what a great book! It‘s crazy to think about how not non-inclusive our books were growing up (how characters looked the same, not a lot of minority representation, etc) so these newer type of books with the crucial meaning of “everyone is different and thats okay” I think are pivotal to have in our classrooms! 4y
AndreaEfres Second language learners are so essential in a classroom, this will definitely be one of my picks. Also, the bio description made me realize that I need to do some work on my own posts! Thank you Olivia 4y

I thought this was a book forum but I noticed that it is until someone wants to use it for personal agenda. This is not a lecture it is just good bye. Won't stand by while the person who introduce me to this forum is raked over the coals it it.

This New York Times Best Seller RF picture book, written by Alexandra Penfold and illustrated by Suzanne Kaufman tells about building the classroom and school community by emphasizing everyone is welcomed no matter their race, religion, or background. #ucflae3414f19

sbombasi This would be good for an RA/CR focused on elementary students, for their first week in class to inform students that everyone is welcome at school and students would choral respond every time “All are welcome here” is mentioned in the text. This would make the read aloud interactive and engaging.

The UDL principle 8.3 foster collaboration and community along with EL #16 integrate speaking, listening, reading work well with this.

sbombasi This activity of presenting the book to an adapted melody makes the story come alive with the class collaboration of singing together. You can even have the students pair up to sing certain parts of the text each. https://teachingwithorff.com/all-are-welcome-here/ 5y

This book is an example of a school community that welcomes all students no matter their race, gender, home life or any other quality that would make students different from one another. This book is a great RA or SA on the first day of class fo help build the classroom community.

carlenerubin https://andrea-mack.blogspot.com/2018/08/all-are-welcome-by-alexandra-penfold.ht...
UDL: 7.1
Having the students create their own banners allows for choice and autonomy in their work.
ESOL: 17. Provide contextual support through audio visuals, models,
demonstrations, realia, body language and facial expressions
By having this book as a RA the teacher can model and use body language to help aid the text for ELL understanding.

ally11301 An ESOL strategy that aligns would be #17 because it is great to provide contextual support through audio visuals (the video), models, demonstrations (the illustrations), realia, body language and facial expressions. 6y
ally11301 An UDL that aligns would be 2.5 which is illustrating the reading through multiple media. 6y

If you are looking for a diverse and inclusive picture book, this is it. It is a little simplistic, but it is comforting, and it is a worthy message. My son was fascinated with the Chinese dragons included, and we ended up watching videos about them after we read this. “We‘re part of a community./Our strength is our diversity./A shelter from adversity./All are welcome here.”
