Pickpick

Better than the negative reviews I read. I thought her story was plausible, but did find a lot of the evidence circumstantial. Ex.: there is no proof he wasn't in Dieppe (apparently no one wrote about it), so he must have been in Whitechapel. Or: that painting looks an awfully lot like a murder scene.
TBR since December 1st. 2011; 435 pages.

KathyWheeler Yeah. With that kind of evidence I thought it was a little presumptuous to subtitle the book “Case Closed.” 3y
Tineke @KathyWheeler yes, it was! And have you read the last sentence of 'My team': 'I honor those who have gone before me and dedicated their efforts to catching Jack the Ripper. He is caught. We have done it together.' I felt she was a bit full of herself. I would have liked a bit more reserve in declaring this. She just cannot be 100% sure. Just not possible. But apparently she is. 3y
KathyWheeler @Tineke That was all a bit much. I agree that a bit more reserve about it would have been better. 3y

#Scarathlon2021 #TeamSlaughter #challenge2021

One of my vocally wise little reading stuffies - Tigger, has decided that (since he‘s clearly🙄 the only one prepared for Halloween (“cough” - he lives in his costume🤷🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️) that he gets to choose the first book to start from the #ScarathlonStacks.

I think he‘s chosen wisely (this time🤨) ‘cause it‘s one that‘s been in my owned TBR forever.

🔪: 1

CoverToCoverGirl Yay Tiger! Great costume! I love this picture. 🤓🙂 3y
DieAReader I feel like he should have a Halloween mask🤨 Wonder if mom would🤣 at me for asking😏 3y

How extraordinary for a mystery writer to research and investigate a century-old psychopathic serial killer. She convinced me, but I think a modern jury would need more evidence to build a case. I think defense would say it was all coincidental. Cornwell did a great job explaining modern forensics, but I wished she had documentation to say the suspect could not be sexually active instead of a nephew's word. The suspect was married 3 times. 🤔

I..KNEW.. NOTHING.. ABOUT IT TOO.

DieAReader What do you think of it? I bought it eons ago & want to read it so bad but keep putting it off & I really don‘t know why! I have a full bookshelf of True Crime that is dying 🤣 to be read & I wanna start with this one & go on a binge. 5y
Butterfinger @SquidgetsRoom I have only started. I think she is being thorough in her investigation. It is interesting to see what a murder-mystery writer will find. 5y
DieAReader I‘m looking forward to your review! Maybe I‘ll add it to my current TBR🤔📚 5y

Wanted to take quick break from #BooksOnTarot for a spooky read and/or listen.

Love this book! But if you want a spooky listen then the audio book is the best choice. Even though it's abridged it has excellent production values for a chilling experience. The book is read by a British woman who was perfectly cast!

I wouldn't have anyone under 17-18 listen though.

A very notorious #PsychoKiller ... #OctoberXFiles

Cinfhen I‘ve always meant to read this book 😫#SoManyBooksSoLittleTime 6y
Robothugs Ohhh... is this particular book good? 6y
zsuzsanna_reads There's also a TV show, I remember watching it years ago. 6y

Librarybelle @Robothugs I thought it was good. I read it ages ago, but I seem to recall that Cornwell wrote a good argument. She used her background to come up with an identity to Jack the Ripper, and I think she made some good points. I think she followed this up with an updated version a few years later that I haven‘t had a chance to read yet. 6y
zsuzsanna_reads The TV show was good, haven't read the book. 6y
Librarybelle @zsuzsanna_reads I forgot about that! 6y
Librarybelle @Cinfhen I know what you mean!! 6y
Librarybelle @zsuzsanna_reads I may have see parts to the TV show, but did not see everything. I may have to look it up to view the entire program. 6y

A #NightInTheCity could lead to deadly consequences when Jack the Ripper roamed White Chapel.

Slightly concerned that my mind jumped to Jack the Ripper with this prompt! #FierceFeb

batsy It's a good jump! 😆 I like the sound of this one. Did not know she also wrote true crime / nonfic! 7y
Librarybelle @batsy I think she wrote a follow up to this one too. This one came out on the early 2000s, and the next one came out several years ago. She‘s very knowledgeable! 7y
Cinfhen Well played 🙌🏻📚😉 7y

Pretty good read! If you are into forensics and a little dash of historical crime. Read very easy and wasn't boring at all. Only reason it wasn't a pick for me was I could have either used more science or more of a story line. It floated somewhere in between for me. But still recommend!

It looks so much better!

TheBookAddict 🙌🏽 👏🏽 great cover btw. 7y
WarpedSweetness @Librarybelle I applaud your awesomeness in getting sticker off without leaving a sticky residue behind! I can never do that! Lol 7y

The whole Jack the Ripper case is #complicated . Everyone has a theory as to his identity. This is Cornwell's initial hypothesis and analysis (she wrote an update recently to further support her theories). #augustgrrrl

WarpedSweetness Does the sticker smack in the middle of the cover bother you? It sort of bothers me! Lol I used to be obsessed with Jack the Ripper back in high school. I found it so fascinating. 7y
Cinfhen Ha @WarpedSweetness bothers me too! And I love a true crime mystery! Sounds good @Librarybelle 7y
Librarybelle Yes, @WarpedSweetness and @Cinfhen stickers are annoying. But, I also hate having to clean off the sticky residue from some types of stickers. Maybe I'll battle this one some day! 😆 7y

TheBookAddict @WarpedSweetness 😂 it was my first thought when I saw the picture. I hate when they do that. At least have the decency of placing it somewhere on the back of the book😔. I'm also fascinated by true crime. 7y
WarpedSweetness Haha That was the first thing I noticed was that damn sticker! Lol @Librarybelle I hate that sticky residue also, but I see you got it off without a problem! Go you! 7y
Ashley_Nicoletto Whoever placed this sticker is not a lover of books. 😂😂 #offensive 7y
