Strangers on a London bus unite to help an elderly man find his missed love connection in the heartwarming new novel from the acclaimed author of The Last Chance Library. When Libby Nicholls arrives in London, brokenhearted and with her life in tatters, the first person she meets on the bus is elderly Frank. He tells her about the time in 1962 that he met a girl on the number 88 bus with beautiful red hair just like hers. They made plans for a date at the National Gallery art museum, but Frank lost the bus ticket with her number on it. For the past sixty years, he's ridden the same bus trying to find her, but with no luck. Libby is inspired to action and, with the help of an unlikely companion, she papers the bus route with posters advertising their search. Libby begins to open her guarded heart to new friendships and a budding romance, as her tightly controlled world expands. But with Frank's dementia progressing quickly, their chance of finding the girl on the 88 bus is slipping away. More than anything, Libby wants Frank to see his lost love one more time. But their quest also shows Libby just how important it is to embrace her own chances for happiness--before it's too late--in a beautifully uplifting novel about how a shared common experience among strangers can transform lives in the most marvelous ways.

Themes: Found Family, Heartwarming, Unique plot (“I didn‘t see that coming!”)

I started this book after I DNF‘d two books in a row. I loved the author‘s newest work (“Nosy Neighbors”) so I thought I‘d give this a try. Well, I loved it! The cast of characters are a perfect mix of quirky and realistic. I couldn‘t put this book down, I had to know how it would end. Definitely a pick if you love her other works!!

Okay, okay, universe, I get it. I‘m in a light hearted, cozy reading vibe. Now can I please get through this one? 🙄 I had to DNF my last 2 books, which puts me in a weird mind space… will I ever finish another book again?? Am I just listlessly roaming from book to book until my highly anticipated fall books publish? 😬 50 pages into this and I can feel myself relax, so that‘s a good sign! 🤞

I really loved this story! Found family at its finest. Libby arrives in London, lost in life after her boyfriend broke up with her, & meets elderly Frank on the 88 bus. He explains his daily rides as a way to find a girl he met sixty years ago but misplaced the ticket with her number. Libby is inspired to help him find her before dementia takes his memory completely. Along the way, Libby makes more friends & must contend with family relationships

What an enjoyable way to spend a Sunday. Sampson had some twists I wasn't expecting, and I loved Libby's quest to reunite Frank with the girl from the 88 bus! I also appreciate that dementia was depicted realistically without being maudlin or pessimistic. (#screwthenotebook) #contemporaryfiction #womensfiction

1-6-23: My 2nd finished book of 2023! A lovely story about a chance meeting on the 88 bus that turns into a search. Frank rides the 88 bus every day for the last 60 years looking for a red headed artist he met one time. When he meets Libby a woman in crisis and looking to change her life around. Once she hears of this search, she jumps in to help Frank and his carer, Dylan find the woman. This is definitely a story about hope. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️📖#️⃣2️⃣

5✨This was such a fun read! Libby‘s life changes when suddenly her boyfriend dumps her. She moves in with her particular sister until she can get her feet back on the ground. Riding on the 88 bus she meets the elderly Frank who tells her the most romantic story of the girl who got away. They look for her throughout the book. #OUABC does it again! Capturing both puppies is rare. Dice 🎲 seems interested and Domino 🐾 is still thinking about the end

Bloody hell this was amazing. The 88 London Bus passengers were lovely. Frank is such a sweet old man, searching for a love 60 years ago. Breaking the stereotype on Dylan was masterful. It was Libby that I really got excited for, cried over, and cheered on throughout the book. She may be 30, yet this was a coming of age for her in taking control of her life. Choosing what she wants, not what others want her to do and to be. Fantastic

I loved her book The Last Chance Library and this was just as lovely. The author does a beautiful job of showing how family comes in many forms. There were times I got frustrated with the main character, Libby, for not standing up for herself and being so passive about her life. But her growth as a character, mainly because of friends who become family, was written well and nice to see.

Here's what I'm cataloging this week for the library. Thank goodness I order about a month in advance and received these books early. The company we order the majority of our books from, Baker & Taylor, had a ransomware attack and is on week 2 of being down. It sucks not being able to order books.

Chelsea.Poole Yes! It‘s been so bad! I‘ve been trying to place an order and it‘s so frustrating! And I‘m sure there will be big delays when it does come back online 😣 2y
nitalibrarian @Chelsea.Poole I think you're right about the delays. I'm also worried our carts are all gone. It would be awful to start over on building future orders. 2y
Chelsea.Poole @nitalibrarian I didn‘t even think of that!! 😱 I have four carts I was ready to submit all printed and ready…going on 2 weeks now 😵‍💫 2y
