This was a bit of a disappointment especially considering how enjoyable The Last Summer at the Golden Hotel was. The concept was interesting and should have definitely appealed to me given all the 90s references. But none of our main characters were likeable, and nothing really seemed to happen and what little did wrapped up in a nice neat impractical bow. Some details weren‘t accurate and perspective changes were off putting. #sundaybuddyread

Sargar114 The most disappointing was not being able to participate in the discussions for #sundaybuddyread. I bet they were great for this one! 2mo

In the spirit of the September #sundaybuddyread , I thought I'd share a few pics from my high school years. My good pictures must be in a different box with my yearbooks, so, for now, you'll have to take my word for it when I tell you I was the CHS 1997 Class Actress. We didn't have a full list of Most Likelys, but we had Best Eyes, Best Smile, Class Clown, etc.

My outfits brought to you by Contempo Casuals & Pacific Sunwear.

#SummerEndReadathon #Rushathon

After placing the author‘s previous book Last Summer at the Golden Hotel on my 2022 favorite reads, I was excited for this book & used a #BOTM credit to get a copy for #SundayBuddyRead. Such a disappointment! Mostly unlikable characters, every cliche, plot line, & topic she could imagine thrown in there. Generally, it‘s just a hot mess of a book. Thankfully the weekly group discussions make a bad book entertaining!

TheSpineView What a disappointment! At least you can go on to something better. 2mo

So disappointing! This felt more like a draft of a book than a finished book. The characters were not relatable, and the plot made little sense. Friedland‘s book Last Summer at the Golden Hotel was much more enjoyable. I only stuck with it for the beloved #SundayBuddyRead 😅

Prairiegirl_reading Good on you for finishing. I couldn‘t. 2mo
Karisa @Prairiegirl_reading There was some skimming involved to make it to the end. 😂 2mo
Prairiegirl_reading @Karisa you still did much better than I did! After week one I tried to stick with it but I think I read three pages and I couldn‘t force myself to do it! It was just so bad!!! 2mo

Six months later

Oh good it‘s all fixed now

Also The husband granted permission for Priya to have a day off 😵‍💫
No cancer for Melissa
No yearbook superlatives
The girls are just most likely now..

Awards for finishing 🏆🏆🏆

AmyG That‘s a great bookmark. When you are happy th finally finish a book? A BAD sign. 🤣 2mo
IndoorDame Oooh I need this bookmark! Granted permission 😖😤😡🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬 2mo
Karisa That‘s the perfect bookmark for this book and yes, tiny trophies all around! Maybe the author needs to slow down a bit to think; she‘s churning the books out too fast. People are making money and not focusing on making a good read… 2mo

TheBookHippie @Karisa I think you‘re right. 2mo
vlwelser I agree with @Karisa this feels like a deadline book. 2mo
vonnie862 I want that bookmark! 2mo
vonnie862 The ending was to leave in a positive note but I was just glad it was over. 2mo
Librarybelle It was so disappointing, compared to what we read last year by the author! 2mo
TheBookHippie @Librarybelle honestly I can‘t believe it. 2mo
mcctrish I bought that very bookmark on Etsy. I could barely read the wrap up #whocares #happilyeverafter🤮 2mo
TheDaysGoBy Love the bookmark! 2mo
TheBookHippie @mcctrish me too several 🖕🏻books ago 🤦🏻‍♀️😵‍💫🤣 2mo
TheDaysGoBy The premise to this book was so interesting. I feel like it could‘ve worked if maybe the book actually did what I thought: started with the reunion and their commitment to change their lives and then we get to see the in depth changes they struggle through to get to a good place. I don‘t know how you bring up so many serious issues (eating disorders, cancer, etc) and gloss right over all of it. I just don‘t get it (edited) 2mo
TheBookHippie @TheDaysGoBy I‘m at a total loss. 2mo
mcctrish @TheDaysGoBy it could have been awesome 2mo
TheBookHippie @mcctrish honestly it had potential … 2mo
Deblovestoread Nothing new to add as you and fellow readers expressed all my thoughts, and feelings and 🤮 moments. Love the bookmark! 2mo
DebinHawaii Love the bookmark as well. 😆 I agree with everyone—the book had potential but she just scattershot every problem or plot device out there & nothing stuck. Disappointing! 2mo
TheBookHippie @DebinHawaii it‘s unreal this is the same author we read previously!!! 2mo
DebinHawaii @TheBookHippie Right?! The Kindle library book I was reading this in had an excerpt from her other book but I don‘t think I will read it now as the brief snippet was giving me “hot mess” vibes especially after just finishing this one. And Last Summer at the Golden Hotel was so good! 2mo
TheBookHippie @DebinHawaii 😵‍💫🤦🏻‍♀️ I‘m not trying her again this was so cringe ! And OY VEY!! 2mo
mollyrotondo @TheDaysGoBy I also thought this was what would happen. Either start with the reunion, make the pact, then see how everyone reaches their goal. Or make the end date to reach the goal be the next reunion date. Not this weird hodgepodge of problems that they just seem to make worse by trying to reach these goals that only work out due to “movie magic” or neat tie it with a bow book endings. Golden Hotel was a gem that she can‘t replicate for us. 2mo
Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick The ending = 🎀. I admit I was excited for this one, being Class of 97 and all. Sadly, I don't recognize any of these people. Their problems were stupid because they are rather immature women. Believe it or not, my BFF from HS and I can have conversations often that don't refer to high school or the 90s. I'm glad I'm done. A friend just had knee surgery & wants to read Adult Assembly Required. Maybe I'll ship this one off to her, too. 2mo
TheBookHippie @Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick I had so much hope for this book!!! Ughhhh 2mo

So opening night at Tik.. seriously you think that would work?!

Oh good a lump in the breast …we needed another midlife thing 🤦🏻‍♀️

I can‘t with the women who don‘t have kids live fulfilling lives or women can‘t have it all trope.
Or all the name dropping

I hate read this week

What is wrong with the author? Should we send help ?!

AmyG This book was not for me. So much random craziness happenning to each character…it didn‘t “feel” like real life. It all just felt absurd. I couldn‘t relate to most of it. 2mo
IndoorDame I think we should definitely send help! I mean what‘s with the idea that Priya is “responsible” for reminding them to get mammograms? They‘re not her spoiled kids, they can set yearly phone alerts, or trust that the doctor will call and nag them. I think our author is feeling the weight of the world and is freaking out about it cause she aught to delegate about 90% of whatever‘s on her plate. 2mo
Karisa @amyg Yep, “random” is a good word for it. This book just kept going downhill. It felt all over the place and like she was still shaping the characters as she went. Throwing any ideas at them to see what would stick like the Priya as mom/doc to all thing that @IndoorDame mentioned 2mo
See All 17 Comments
TheBookHippie @IndoorDame 💯💯💯💯 2mo
vlwelser What the actual fuck happened to this author? 2mo
TheBookHippie @vlwelser 🤷🏻‍♀️ 2mo
vonnie862 This chapter had me 🤦‍♀️🤷‍♀️ 2mo
Librarybelle @IndoorDame I found it sad, just sad that Priya was the one to remind everyone about getting a mammogram. Perhaps no one else in this book has heard of the Google calendar??? Also, the lump only to be brushed aside at the end as a non-issue, almost like an afterthought…not cool. 2mo
mcctrish The idea of Priya reminding them was the only random control thing I could manage to fathom, except she wasn‘t that type of dr so not really. We have smart phones so there‘s no reason to not have this kind of thing programmed - I get a letter from Ontario health reminding me it‘s time to book and I‘m grateful for that and I stand with @vlwelser 🤯🤯🤯 2mo
mcctrish @Librarybelle maybe the lump should have been a twist earlier instead of a threesome and that‘s why shithead left with the yoga teacher and Melissa wanted everyone to go to the reunion cuz she wanted to remember happier times and celebrate being healthy and Nathan gave money to a women‘s hospital and they meet and there is no Elon 2mo
DebinHawaii The author was just thinking up topical or semi-topical issues & tossing them in there all willy-nilly for their dramatic effect. 2mo
mollyrotondo I thought it was actually so sad that Priya‘s “friends” use her too to manage their lives. Does she have enough to juggle with her kids and her terrible husband and being a doctor? Her friends clearly didn‘t respect her either by making her feel like she had to manage their breast health. These people are all terrible. Worst friends ever. 2mo
mollyrotondo And yes! Send her help 😂 🤣 2mo
Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick Tara moves out west to be a personal chef to the rich & famous. Boring. She's not really out from under the scandalous thumb. The mammogram/lump thing was just dumb. It's far too late in the story for that BS. 2mo
TheBookHippie @Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick it was all so convoluted!!! 2mo
TheBookHippie @mollyrotondo I‘m still mad about this book 😅🤣🤣🤣🤦🏻‍♀️ 2mo
mollyrotondo @TheBookHippie 😂 I get it! But I‘m enjoying this month‘s book so far 😆 so it‘s all okay lol 2mo

Her empire
Adoption reasons

Book contract done
Life a mess

Nathan and Melissa kiss
The girls power strategise…

🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️ thoughts ?!

AmyG Four women who everyone in high school thought would make it big….become complete fu** ups but manage to come out of it ok. This could have been a better book. 2mo
IndoorDame I literally have zero thoughts about the Suki section. It‘s so ridiculous I just tuned it out. I‘m not even angry at the book at this point, you have to be invested in characters to be angry at them, and these ladies are more like Karen Barbie, CEO Barbie, Doctor Barbie… how do you actually relate to that? 2mo
TheBookHippie @IndoorDame I‘ve zero clues 🤷🏻‍♀️ 2mo
See All 19 Comments
Karisa Nathan‘s whole character just seemed to be about convenience. Melissa magically deciding “oh I should just go ahead and eat” problem solved through the power of friendship I guess? I don‘t think that‘s how eating disorders work… @IndoorDame Accurate assessment no relation to my life in a book that is supposed to be about women my age… sigh 2mo
TheBookHippie @Karisa This is so far from anyone I know this age it boggles the mind. 2mo
TheBookHippie @Karisa a man to solve an eating disorder is so so wrong to even allude to. (edited) 2mo
vlwelser All of this is totally ridiculous. 2mo
vonnie862 I was hoping Suki's POV would have turned the story around, but it just got worse. 2mo
Librarybelle I think I groaned aloud when we learned that Elon Musk was the owner of the home. Seriously??? I was rather disappointed in finally learning Suki‘s story - did anyone else catch that her voice was in the first person, whereas everyone else was 3rd person? 2mo
TheBookHippie @Librarybelle YES!!! Ughhhhhh. 2mo
mcctrish Why Elon? How was Suki even in his sphere? It would have made more sense that she was supported by someone she met in the entertainment/fashion industry - Taylor Swift has multiple houses why not someone like her ? Just to give Nathan a connection ? Him showing up at Suki‘s unannounced and not knowing actually where Melissa was is STALKING!!!! Not romantic FFS! This book is giving Colleen Hoover a run for her worst thing ever standing 2mo
TheDaysGoBy @mcctrish Yeah I thought it was weird him showing up when she didn‘t tell him where she was going. And how would Elon have even known? He leant the house to Suki, not like he was keeping track of every single person she was having over. Unless he was because he had to approve people staying in his house? 😂 It was all so weird 2mo
TheDaysGoBy I also didn‘t understand how all these women have all these complex, deep problems and then you just gloss right over them and skip ahead to everything being hunky dory. Everything just magically better doesn‘t make for a satisfying ending because we didn‘t see the characters work for it and earn it 2mo
TheBookHippie @mcctrish OMG 🤮🤢 Hoover 🤮 2mo
TheBookHippie @TheDaysGoBy It was straight up unbelievable that this was even printed into a book. Did no one edit or read it?! 2mo
mcctrish @TheDaysGoBy why give them problems and not show how they overcome them?! Makes no sense and is so lazy 2mo
DebinHawaii @mcctrish That was definitely icky stalker-ish behavior! But hey, someone had to take the lead in “fixing” Melissa‘s eating disorder! 🤬 2mo
mollyrotondo Everyone knows Elon it seems 🙄 the Suki story was pretty terrible when you think about it. She‘s an abusive boss but she gets away with it and comes out with a book. Just like every bad boss. They get away with it. And she had this attitude when she said “oh I guess I should text back thank you to my employee and that should suffice but oh wait they want better pay and work from home Fridays” and I‘m supposed to feel sorry for her? No. 2mo
Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick I was hoping Suki would be the good MC, but we were fooled once again. The change in POV was oddly jarring, but at this point in the book, I just wanted to finish. Suki raised to fame so quickly, it seems she never learned how to be a business woman... she is a business girl. Being a shrew doesn't win you any favors. We didn't even fully get to see how she fixed the Ricky issue. I hired someone. *Charlie Brown teacher noises* OK he's gone. 🙄 2mo

Oh good size 0
And her threesome was announced at her debate for mayor …
Daughter seems upset 🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️

Revenge from the restaurant owner who catered …

Are we all 12?!? What?

Seek help people 🤦🏻‍♀️

AmyG This was ridiculous. I skimmed…never a good sign. 2mo
Karisa @AmyG Yes! I was skimming some of this too. So petty! The characters just kept getting sillier. And why did Suki‘s parts switch to the first person voice? So strange. (edited) 2mo
IndoorDame Yup. I think we‘re all 12. Remind me never to live in a town that feels like going back to middle school. Or at least to become crazy witch lady who never speaks to anyone if I do. 2mo
See All 15 Comments
TheBookHippie @IndoorDame as the crazy witch lady of my town here, I agree 💯💯 2mo
AmyG @IndoorDame I moved from a town that had groups of people who behaved like that. By the time I left….ha, I hated most of the people there. It was just bananas. 2mo
TheBookHippie @Karisa EDIT EDIT EDIT EDIT why did the voice change ?!?!?!? 2mo
vlwelser I'm not sure the author realizes what a size 0 actually is. Like you can't lose enough weight to have a 21" waist. You have to actually be built like that. 2mo
vonnie862 This chapter...aye... so Melissa is pretty much a skeleton. 2mo
Librarybelle It was odd too that Cameron blamed Melissa for the threesome…umm, there were 3 to make the threesome. Sadly, I‘ve also seen towns where people act like this, “airing” the “dirt” of others in the community in a public audience. 2mo
mcctrish That threesome is the stupidest, laziest plot device EVER! This is exactly throwing shit at walls and seeing what sticks @IndoorDame you nailed it (edited) 2mo
TheDaysGoBy I think it‘s just strange how there was no real aftermath to the whole threesome reveal. Like Melissa should‘ve sat down with her daughter immediately to explain/discuss it (maybe even with Josh since yeah, they were all involved). Or even during the actual debate itself Melissa didn‘t even say a single word to defend herself/the invasion of privacy. I get what the author was going for with the town speaking up but still 2mo
DebinHawaii I agree with everything you all have already said DUMB DUMB DUMB!!! 2mo
mollyrotondo Melissa is a major eating disorder and needs therapy to help with that. She can‘t just simply start eating again and she‘s all better. And that barely was talked about other than “you should eat” comments. Not helpful. And that debate went sooooo smoothly for Melissa (people did feel bad for her that her past was used against which never happens in real life; people want clean slates when it comes to female politicians sad truth). Neat bow. 2mo
Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick Sometimes, I feel younger than others my age because I didn't have kids to worry about, rent an apartment, and had a fairly easy life. Then I read about these women and at least in not this childish & petty. I'm just rather carefree. #CoolAuntForLife Melissa had way too much good luck here to be even remotely believable. At least that heinous oxygen thief current mayor was bested. Side note: The wine pictured is rather good and affordable. 2mo
TheBookHippie @Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick side note I enjoy this wine too! Works good in pot roast as well FYI 2mo

M is for Mommy..
That‘d be the day I‘d let that happen..
boundaries people

AmyG I honestly don‘t know how she gets anything done with so much on her plate and no help from her husband (which she allowed). (edited) 2mo
Karisa I didn‘t understand why she cared that her husband and his mother talked to each other. Why close someone out that loves him and your kids too? Her visiting while you are working and won‘t be bothered by her is a good thing. You are not competing against his mother. Let her cook, you don‘t really want to anyway and you have a busy new role that you are starting to like. Enjoy the leftovers. 2mo
Karisa @AmyG I felt like Priya set up that dynamic herself in some ways by not letting others help and having particular ways that things needed to be done. It was so uneven though. Won‘t trust the kid to study for his own math test, but hands him the bottle of Ritalin to manage on his own in the kids‘ bathroom? Huh? 2mo
See All 26 Comments
TheBookHippie @Karisa Ha. My mother in law did this once to prove I wasn‘t capable, and told me as such. … it‘s the way they do it I imagine .. mine was not being helpful. I‘m a little salty still. As for the book- I imagine it was because he was too dependent on her 🤷🏻‍♀️ and also was allowing his mom to speak ill of her without standing up for his wife. “She left you again poor thing” not helpful. 2mo
TheBookHippie @Karisa that was a little ODD!!! was this helicopter sometimes parenting ? 2mo
AmyG @Karisa and @TheBookHippie YES…he was cheating on Priya…WITH HIS MOM? 🤣🤣🤣 2mo
TheBookHippie @AmyG @Karisa all I could think of was control is a common PTSD thing of rape and molestation … her teacher thing was not handled ..in any aspect. 2mo
IndoorDame @Karisa @TheBookHippie I definitely saw her setting up a dynamic where the MIL was technically being helpful but actually using it as a way to undermine and abuse Priya and keep Dev from learning to step up. This is an issue in lots of relationships, especially when one partner was raised very conservatively, but I can‘t figure out why you‘d introduce the issue and then not even try to resolve it. Priya and her MIL never talk she and Dev barely do 2mo
Karisa @TheBookHippie Maybe it‘s because my mother-in-law at first refused to meet me (I‘m not Russian). Then, she passed away, on the day we were supposed to meet (she‘d had a change of heart going in to surgery and wanted her son and me there). She left a big hole in his life. He misses her and would have loved to see her get to know our children. Dev should stand up for Priya but Priya can‘t expect him to ignore his mom completely 2mo
IndoorDame @TheBookHippie @AmyG I was so angry that they introduced the storyline with her teacher and never followed up. But so many things never got followed up on properly. I felt a bit like we were just throwing things at the wall to see what stuck. Which is fine in whatever comes before draft 1 IMO… 2mo
vlwelser So gross. What a terrible husband. 2mo
TheBookHippie @IndoorDame 💯💯💯💯💯💯 2mo
vonnie862 @IndoorDame As a teacher, I really dislike it when the teacher-student relationship is romanticized. 2mo
vonnie862 Now, Priya should have set boundaries, but mother-in-laws are tricky and this could have been a culture thing as well. I see this kind of dynamic where the wife does everything and the husband only works in my culture. 2mo
TheBookHippie @Karisa Awe. Mine hated me from day one 30 plus years later.. not much has changed. 2mo
Librarybelle The relationship between Dev and Jeet was weird…though I‘ve witnessed MILs from others I know who totally could not let their “little boy” go with someone. I‘ll never have an MIL, so I cannot speak from experience. 2mo
mcctrish Priya‘s storyline exhausted me and made me feel physically ill with all the balls she juggled. @thebookhippie the control issues from the teacher relationship makes that part make sense, but seeing Dev and hating how his mother fawned over him and how little he did to help made no sense in terms of her helicoptering her own children ( but not their screen time or meds????!!!! @Karisa I literally said WTF in both cases! 2mo
mcctrish @vonnie862 MILs are tricky. Mine is a narcissist and thankfully my husband is aware and is on my team always. His middle brother always plays off her shit behaviour as being old and is not on his partners side 100% ☹️ @TheBookHippie the first time I went to dinner with mine she had a stack of clippings about divorcées and their chances of making a good 2nd ( I was divorced) full family dinner to grill and ‘educate‘ me. I went into shock 2mo
TheBookHippie @mcctrish we have the same mother in law. 🤦🏻‍♀️ 2mo
Karisa @mcctrish 🫨😱🤯 2mo
mcctrish @TheBookHippie that‘s 2 too many in the world 2mo
DebinHawaii This was dumb. As soon as I read the text about her never being home I thought—it‘s his mother. 🙄 2mo
mollyrotondo This made sense because Dev is a momma‘s boy. But it was also sort of a dud reveal. But of course his mother would pick up the household needs while Priya is away because Dev keeps to traditional roles of the women take care of the home regardless of also having a job. Priya needs to leave Dev because he‘s toxic. 2mo
Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick I'm glad I'm not the only one who noticed their son can't be trusted to study or find something he needs, but allowed to manage his own meds. 😵‍💫 Ma being M should have been expected, but it was such a lame reveal I wanted him to be cheating. The 3 of them need to discuss boundaries and helpfulness. Strange how they brought up the teacher affair, Suki's clever save, then just speed it right under the rug. Not a well-rounded ending for Priya. 2mo
TheBookHippie @Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick the whole thing is a hot mess😵‍💫🤦🏻‍♀️ 2mo

Ok...I really tried to like this one. I thought I was enjoying it at first but then I quickly started disliking the characters. Melissa and Tara were annoying, Priya was somewhat likeable, and Suki...I simply didn't care for. However, it was an easy read.

#Bookspin #13 #ispybingo

mcctrish Melissa grew on me and I need more time with Priya having some backbone to change my opinion of her 🤷🏻‍♀️ Tara never redeemed herself and Suki was awol for too much of the story to care about 2mo

Pass on this one. I just didn‘t get it. I understand what the author was trying to do, but it just wasn‘t for me. I didn‘t like the characters, the story, really just didn‘t care for this one.

I almost never pan a book so I feel bad, but I feel like there wasn‘t much I enjoyed about this. The characters were all kinda the worst without any real redeeming qualities/moments. And any issues they had felt completely glossed over by the end with no real depth. I liked the premise but this wasn‘t what I thought it was gonna be. Looking forward to finishing up discussion on it though Sunday

Definitely not as enjoyable as Last Summer at the Golden Hotel! While I appreciated the references to ‘90s pop culture (this is my era, though the characters are a tad older than me), I was not fully enamored with any of the MCs. As the book progressed, I found I was more frustrated than anything with their stories. Spoiler comment below that had me rolling my eyes. At least I finished this with #Zeke resting on me. #CatsOfLitsy #SundayBuddyRead

Librarybelle The fight between the 4 of them near the end of the book was ridiculous to me. Were they just getting out their frustrations on each other? It became a bit too personal. It was almost like the author felt the need for them to clear the air amongst themselves for some reason. It was a pretty weak part, in my mind. 2mo

Still trying to play catch up for #sundaybuddyread but had to look this up cause it didn‘t seem accurate for a supposed time capsule of 1997. Enough to make me stop reading…sigh. 😕

I won‘t say much as we have our last discussion next Sunday but I felt each of these main characters were stereotypical tropes of middle aged women: the working mom with the oblivious selfish spouse, the clueless divorcee, the ball busting CEO, and I‘m not even sure about the 40+ woman whose parents are still paving her way. Not a fan.

TheSpineView Bummer! Hopefully the next book will be better! 2mo

Teaching full time has me so overstimulated by the time I get home I‘m struggling to stay on top of all my reads 😢 this week I plan to finish Murder, Most likely and Song of the Cell and then maybe begin something just for fun before October spooky read season starts and all my new buddy reads begin again. Or pace myself better

Thoughts ?

Group texting…

BM means bowel movement
I know she meant Bar Mitzvah but still
Seriously ?

Lisa Frank & Trapper Keepers ….

I‘ll see ya next Sunday WE GET TO FINISH THIS 🥳

IndoorDame Lisa Frank was SO intensely saccharine! That stuff terrified me! I never understood the massive fad following. 2mo
mcctrish Nobody calls a Bar/Bat Mitzvah a BM do they? That‘s ridiculous. Nathan has become the character I like and Paul Frank is the Frank I prefer 2mo
AmyG Yeah, I guess there is that nerdy person in every class that “makes it”. Afpgain, how convenient he has a “thing” for Melissa. 2mo
See All 27 Comments
Karisa I do remember Lisa Frank, but was more the grunge/thrift store finds type. 😂 @mcctrish BM is ridiculous thing to call a rite of passage party… Poor son. I‘m predicting that party to be a mess with the guest of honor suffering the most and Melissa/Nathan to become a thing. 2mo
mcctrish Absolutely @Karisa you are nailing it prediction wise 2mo
vlwelser I'm so ready to be done with this. It feels disrespectful of Jewish culture to refer to that as BM. Does the author think she's funny? 2mo
TheBookHippie @vlwelser there were a few cringe moments to Jewish culture and I do believe the author is Jewish 🤦🏻‍♀️😵‍💫 2mo
TheBookHippie @IndoorDame it‘s a bit freakish 😵‍💫 2mo
TheBookHippie @mcctrish not that I‘ve ever heard and I agree I‘ll take the monkey! 2mo
IndoorDame @TheBookHippie @vlwelser She is Jewish. The publisher apparently got her sensitivity readers from the Indian and bisexual communities, but I still found cringe moments in those sections. So maybe you just can‘t please everyone, but I‘m thinking this is just too packed with stereotypes and some of them cross lines. (edited) 2mo
vlwelser Also what teen is into Lisa Frank and Trapper Keepers? Those are for little kids. 2mo
TheBookHippie @vlwelser elementary school. Yes. 2mo
TheBookHippie @IndoorDame I can‘t with the bisexual troupes I just left it because it‘s so far past reality …as is this book. Sooo many lines crossed. 2mo
vlwelser It's okay. Almost over. 2mo
TheBookHippie @vlwelser I already told the used bookstore to expect another no stars book 🤣 Oy vey. I predict sunshine & roses ending and cringe… 2mo
vlwelser We need more European novels where the ending is all doom and gloom and reality sucks. Those are deeply satisfying. 2mo
TheBookHippie @vlwelser ha agree. I‘m preferring LCL just ends currently 🤣🤣🤣🤣 2mo
vonnie862 Oh man, I loved Lisa Frank in elementary school! I have to be honest, the last 2 chapters had me dozing off much. Nathan was just eh. 2mo
DebinHawaii I was never into the whole Lisa Frank thing. TBH I had to look her up to “remember” her designs. This book is just so awkward. Nothing feels natural. Looking forward to ending the pain next week! 😉 2mo
Sargar114 I‘ve been in a bit of a slump…I‘m still in the second week section but it‘s a seemingly quick read, if just kind of meh. Hoping to finish by next week‘s discussion 2mo
TheBookHippie @Sargar114 you‘re not missing much 😵‍💫 I‘ve been in slumps -it‘s awful ! 2mo
TheBookHippie @DebinHawaii true story ! 2mo
mollyrotondo Yes Lisa Frank was big in elementary school and we‘d get her folders I want to say at the Book Fairs in school. Oh and I guess Staples had them for back to school. That was a quick phase for us as children. Liked the monkey better too 😂 I also agree @vlwelser that doom and gloom reality endings are much preferred 😂 Nathan is not someone I‘m falling in love with right away 😆 2mo
Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick I had a couple of Lisa Frank items & Trapper Keepers as a kid. As an adult, I still enjoy good office supplies, (fresh notebooks, colorful Papermate marker pens, & Post-Its) but I can't imagine yearning for shit I used 35 years ago. GROW UP. You can get older and still enjoy things, or get nostalgic, but your tastes change. As a non-Jew, I found the Jewish author using BM as a shortcut to be effing ridiculous. Maybe if the son who didn't ⬇️ 2mo
Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick want the party called it that... I would get that. A 12 year old boy using toilet humor. But a Karen calling her son's Bar Mitzvah a BM?! ?‍? I caught the nod to the Golden, so that was kind of cool. My final gripe is why the author said that Rachel handed Tara her "jeans jacket"? Just call it a denim jacket, you monster! 2mo
TheBookHippie @Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick it‘s so beyond reality of anyone Jewish I know..🤦🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️ 2mo

Suki gets roasted in the press
Husband moves out?
So to California Tara goes … she‘s the special friend?!
Because she was there for her… 🤷🏻‍♀️

Elon Musk FFS
just NO

Ricky again

mcctrish I can‘t even with this storyline (edited) 2mo
IndoorDame I hope I‘m wrong, but I‘m getting the feeling that the theme of this book is women actually can‘t have it all 2mo
Karisa We finally get to see Suki and her life sucks too🤦🏻‍♀️ Elon Musk as the supportive friend type 🤢 @mcctrish and @IndoorDame I agree. This storyline is a mess. The more “relatable” she tries to make the characters, the more out of touch they seem. 2mo
See All 20 Comments
AmyG I am curious to see where these women “fall”. So much of this book is absurd. 2mo
vlwelser This is so ridiculous. Did you throw the book here? 2mo
TheBookHippie @IndoorDame me too 🤬 2mo
TheBookHippie @vlwelser yup sailed across the room. How is this the same author ?! WTF 2mo
TheBookHippie @mcctrish lots of WTF and FFS 😵‍💫 2mo
mcctrish @IndoorDame I‘m going to go with women need to make better choices. To quote John Mellencamp 🎶life goes on, long after the thrill of living is gone” #becarefulwhatyouwishfor 2mo
Deblovestoread The name dropping 🤮 2mo
TheBookHippie @Deblovestoread seriously 🤮 2mo
vonnie862 This chapter had me, 🤦‍♀️🤷‍♀️ 2mo
DebinHawaii The name dropping—of course she had to throw in Oprah too-so annoying. Suki seems just as bad as the rest of them. I hate anyone in power, man or woman who is awful to their assistants & can‘t bother to remember their names! 🤬 2mo
TheBookHippie @DebinHawaii UGHHHHHHHHHH. So self absorbed 🤮🤦🏻‍♀️ 2mo
mollyrotondo The name dropping made me hate Suki lol and she‘s a terrible boss on top of it 🤦🏻‍♀️ these women don‘t have anything together and I guess that‘s the author‘s point? Women aren‘t perfect? But not great examples for any of us to follow so… This book is in no way close to Golden Hotel. 2mo
TheBookHippie @mollyrotondo the name dropping throughout the whole book is 🤢🤮😵‍💫 2mo
mollyrotondo @TheBookHippie it‘s beyond. The author did not even bother to weave it naturally 2mo
TheBookHippie @mollyrotondo I can‘t believe it‘s the SAME author 😵‍💫 2mo
TheBookHippie @mcctrish it‘s unreal this was published 😵‍💫 2mo
Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick Elon & Oprah?! 🙄🙄 Sure, you might not want to use one of your homes, but just rent something low-key. She's been a boss long enough to have learned that being harsh wasn't working. She didn't pivot & learn. Plenty of women are CEOs. Suki kind of sucks, too. Does Tara think she's more special to Suki than she really is? Curious how the Ricky thing plays out. A bit surprised Maya didn't include Tara in discussing him hosting, but PLOT POINT. 2mo

New job
Camp nurse call about her son.. in this day and age the assumption it‘s mom not working blew my mind.
Also one week of camp ?! Do not comprehend ..
I like that she told them off
Her husbands phone 😵‍💫
Melissa comes along
M Priya thinks it‘s Melissa
So he‘s CHEATING ?

IndoorDame I read a press piece about this book where at one point the author talked about the way she relates to the different characters, and with Priya it devolved into sort of complaining that she personally didn‘t understand why she had to do the bulk of the domestic labor in her relationship and I can‘t help thinking that writing a book is not the way to address that problem! 2mo
TheBookHippie @IndoorDame OH MY WORD. Seriously?! She‘s going through a whole host of issues and putting it in this book 😵‍💫😵‍💫 2mo
mcctrish @IndoorDame well that at least makes it make sense 😫 but I hope she burns all of Dev‘s things 2mo
See All 16 Comments
Karisa I‘m thinking the Dev thing is going to turn into “silly” “overbearing” misunderstanding. The comment about trading sex acts for help from her husband was 🤢. The phone call to mom definitely still happens, as a teacher with my phone on silent in the classroom, I could relate to that. At least the last week, my son‘s school called us both when he was sick(one of my good friends was working the office desk at his school). 2mo
AmyG My kids went to camp. If something happenned they would have tried both parents….nobody wants to be sued. So I found this absurd. I just feel like we are watching all these women implode. 2mo
vlwelser This is so ridiculous. And she took a famous RBG story and tried to make it work in her not great novel. I felt a little embarrassed for her here. 2mo
IndoorDame @vlwelser 😂😂😂👏👏👏 2mo
TheBookHippie @vlwelser 🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️ 🤣💀 2mo
TheBookHippie @AmyG I bet she wraps it all up with a shitty shiny bow 🤦🏻‍♀️ 2mo
AmyG @TheBookHippie Ha! You are probably right. 😬 2mo
vonnie862 Of all the characters, Priya is my favorite. I am so happy she told off that nurse. As a person in education, when you can't get hold of one parent, you call the other. There's also an emergency contact list. 2mo
TheBookHippie @vonnie862 RIGHT??? We have six people listed for my HS son and my daughter is the admin assistant at the middle school and I‘m generally in one of the elementary buildings! 🫠 2mo
DebinHawaii Yeah with an injury like that, the nurse not even trying Dev when she didn‘t answer seemed illogical. What‘s with the “M” thing? And yes @Karisa 💯🤢! 2mo
TheDaysGoBy @vonnie862 I agree. Priya is the least offensive character in this book. It is nice to see her stand up for herself a bit as she seems to let people walk all over her and not ask for help with anything 2mo
mollyrotondo I do like the Priya the best. She‘s really trying. That whole thing with the camp only calling the mom was insane! Priya should sue the camp. @Karisa I also thought the comment about performing a sexual favor on her husband in order to ask him to do stuff around the house was disgusting. That‘s the sign that they have an unhealthy marriage. The M text message could either be a misunderstanding or someone we‘ve never met. Def not Melissa. 2mo
Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick Vid didn't have the sniffles. He had a potentially broken leg, and they just calmly waited to reach mom?! This is such a contrived plot point to show that at least one of our MCs will stand up for herself, but then she's debating trading blowies for chores, and we're right back where we started. Jumping to the M = Melissa conclusion was a bit strange with how cold she suddenly got. Run through the hospital staff roster, and think this out. 2mo

Let‘s get drunk and high for our interview at…wait for it… TIK (like TIK Tok was the writer drunk and high writing this? 🤣😵‍💫)
Also she doesn‘t trust Rachel?
Um also she‘s talks terrible about her and is condescending ..
Also 43 and credit card patents PAY?!
Also she has an age thing issue?!
So she is in touch with Suki
And … thoughts ?
Her dad calling about past due bills?
Rachel, the poor thing..

mcctrish I think Tara‘s new job is stupid and so is she (edited) 2mo
Karisa Tara is getting more unlikable too… TIK seemed like a cult and yet she stayed… She‘s horrible and condescending to Rachael who is nothing but supportive to her. The more onion layers the author tries to add to this character, the more she stinks. So frustrating! 2mo
IndoorDame @Karisa I agree. She even finally had the realization that she needed to leave Rachel, and proceeded to do nothing about it…😡🤬 2mo
See All 20 Comments
AmyG Seems like they all started out with so much promise….and now are all sort of becoming not very nice. I feel very bad for Rachel. I am slowly not liking any of these women. 2mo
vlwelser Poor Rachel. I thought this character might be ok. But nah. And TIK? Is the author this out of touch? Probably yes. 2mo
TheBookHippie @vlwelser she is and she‘s not that old 😵‍💫🤦🏻‍♀️ 2mo
TheBookHippie @AmyG I like no one but Rachael ! Ha 2mo
TheBookHippie @Karisa 😵‍💫😵‍💫😵‍💫 2mo
IndoorDame @TheBookHippie ditto! I hope Rachel gets far away from these people by the end of this book! And realizes she‘s better off for it. 2mo
mcctrish @IndoorDame 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 2mo
Deblovestoread I‘m team Rachel, too. Run Rachel run, you deserve so much better than what you have. 2mo
vonnie862 Tara is immature for her age. I can't believe she is still using her parents' credit card while at the same time looking down on Rachel and the TIK. Take a better look at yourself Tara! 2mo
DebinHawaii Yeah, Tara might have replaced Melissa for my least-liked this week. I hope Rachel realizes she‘s bad & gets out & runs fast! 🏃🏻‍♀️ 2mo
Karisa @DebinHawaii Agreed! Tara became so annoying this section! And avocados and mangoes are not difficult to cut up if you know how! I can‘t believe a chef like Tara would say that… 😂 2mo
TheBookHippie @Karisa eyes rolled back of my head I cut mango almost daily avocado too 🤣 2mo
TheBookHippie @DebinHawaii let‘s hope.. 2mo
mollyrotondo I didn‘t even mind the TIK restaurant thing because it at least was a step in the direction Tara wants to head in. Being a well known chef and even if it‘s a stupid idea it‘s an idea that will sell and get her name out there. But I still hate Tara because she‘s being so incredibly awful to Rachel. She is totally hung up on Suki and immature for Rachel. And Suki doesn‘t seem interested at all. She‘s got too much on her mind. Tara is self centered 2mo
mollyrotondo Love the picture btw @TheBookHippie 2mo
Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick Rachel deserves so much better. Tara hasn't "grown up", still hung up on Suki & the incident. Sure, Ricky might've had enough clout to keep Tara out of an LA/NYC/Chicago/Boston 5-star restaurant, but I'm rather certain no one in Montclair, NJ would give two fucks if she really was that talented. She looks for excuses and hasn't tried to pivot. She cringes about using her parents' money, but her decisions don't seem to improve her situation. 2mo

Well I slept waaaaaay in 🤣🤦🏻‍♀️

Mayor run
Her mom
Eating 🤷🏻‍♀️
Her daughter weight shamed really????
Also ummmm hypocrite much
This character is 😵‍💫🤦🏻‍♀️😵‍💫
Grandmas advice ….

Melissa and her sister Karen
The Bar Mitzvah call out to The Last Summer At The Golden Hotel

Any changing thoughts about Melissa ?

IndoorDame I‘m liking her less and less if that counts as change… and grandma‘s story wasn‘t funny! How do you not see if that guy is okay? You‘re at least a responsible for people you hire! 2mo
mcctrish I slept in too and I am so happy!!! I started liking Melissa more here. But I feel like Cam is being made too stereotypical. Why is M‘s running for mayor so cringe ? Is Cam not in her senior year? 2mo
TheBookHippie @mcctrish YES. A senior. 2mo
See All 17 Comments
TheBookHippie @IndoorDame if you‘re still that salty over one situation it‘s you not them and she should have made sure he was okay and also there is nothing wrong with his occupation he is earning a living. 2mo
Karisa @IndoorDame @IndoorDame AGREED! That grandma scene was so off-putting but seemed like the author was going for a heartwarming family moment? 🤦🏻‍♀️ The only Melissa redeeming scene was when she rode along with Priya to retrieve her son, but that one was cringe for Priya… ugh this book! 2mo
AmyG Agree with @Karisa ….Melissa can be so kind and then so cringeworthy. Running for Mayor your daughter‘s senior year…seems very self-centered. Cam must be thrilled (she has enough issues). And the rich guy? How convenient. 😳 2mo
vlwelser Nope. Same opinion. Though it's possible she's getting more annoying. Also Easter egg spotted. Though that's a weird term for something referring to a bat mitzvah. 2mo
Deblovestoread I do think the author was going for a heartwarming moment but it was weird. And I had the same thought as @AmyG “show me the money” if this is a book about women trying to find their strength and change for the better I‘m struggling to find it. 2mo
vonnie862 Of course she's running for mayor *eye roll*. Usually I would have been, "You go girl," but I don't like Melissa. And the whole grandma thing, I zoned out. 2mo
DebinHawaii The grandma story was cringy.🫣 I minded Melissa less in this section, but that‘s not a big step up—still not a fan. 2mo
TheDaysGoBy I‘m fully expecting her to end up with Nathan by the end of this. Maybe I‘m wrong but I so wouldn‘t be surprised with that given how this book has gone. She‘s so judge-y and he seems pretty decent for the most part - not sure she would really belong with him lol 2mo
mollyrotondo @TheDaysGoBy I also think Melissa is going to end up with Nathan. I think Nathan had a crush on her in high school 🙄 which is also annoying. Why do people cling to high school like this? I hated the grandma moment. What‘s wrong with being a window cleaner? I get what the author was going for but this was a shallow way of making the point. 2mo
TheBookHippie @mollyrotondo it‘s all 😵‍💫😵‍💫😵‍💫😵‍💫😵‍💫 2mo
mollyrotondo @TheBookHippie exactly. I find Melissa‘s story the most 😵‍💫😵‍💫😵‍💫 2mo
TheBookHippie @mollyrotondo SAME!!! Blech.. 2mo
Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick These feel like "Bougie women" problems. Of course, this wealthy benefactor is open to meeting with Melissa, who thinks that 8 years as PTA President qualifies her for Mayoral candidate in her quaint CT enclave. Do we have enough locally sourced boutique clothing shops downtown? The grocery store needs to be 80% organic, not 68%. I feel bad for Cam that Melissa can't just enjoy the potentially final year with her daughter at home. 2mo
TheBookHippie @Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick BOUGIE is right!!! It‘s insane 🤦🏻‍♀️ 2mo

On we read….

I loved love loved Last Summer at The Golden Hotel

Prairiegirl_reading I‘ve read six pages since last week. I don‘t think I can go on!! The author teaches novel writing at YALE??? How did she come up with these awful characters? 😩 3mo
TheBookHippie @Prairiegirl_reading 🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️ I‘m so upset and disappointed we loved her other book. This book is horrific. I‘ll finish til the bitter end 🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️ 3mo

TheBookHippie @IndoorDame word …. This is a hot mess 😵‍💫 3mo
TheBookHippie @Prairiegirl_reading It‘s not looking good 🤦🏻‍♀️ maybe she‘ll pull it out in the end 🤷🏻‍♀️ 3mo
kspenmoll If not for this group discussion, which is been fun, I would just throw the book out 3mo
AmyG HOT MESS is very kind. 🤣 3mo
vonnie862 This is not my typical read. However, I may be able to stick to the end. 3mo
TheBookHippie @vonnie862 mine either and look where it got me 🤣🤣 3mo
Deblovestoread I thought Messy Lives was the worst but now it has competition 😂. I am loving everyone‘s responses! 3mo
TheBookHippie @Deblovestoread I can‘t quite believe this 🤦🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️🫣 3mo
vlwelser I thought I would like this but it's a hot mess. To be fair, these high school reunion books have never been my trope of choice. 3mo
TheBookHippie @vlwelser to be fair I thought that would be the worst part!!!!! 😵‍💫🤦🏻‍♀️ 3mo
vlwelser Oops. 🤷 3mo
TheBookHippie @vlwelser This happens as I finished my whole long blogging for our 2024 schedule and I'm just keeping it. NO REVISIONS. I have shit to do! LOLOLOLOLOL. I have been quarantined in my house for 10 days -UNCLE. BUT I don't have COVID. I may have escaped it this time!! Mr. BOOK HIPPIE is testing negative today, and he hasn't had symptoms since Wednesday. He had a very mild case of course......
vlwelser I'm glad you're both ok. Are you going to let us peek at 2024? Obviously just so I don't read any of the books in the meantime. I'm also seeing ads for a new Simone. 3mo
vlwelser Not to derail the perfect schedule. 3mo
TheBookHippie @vlwelser New Simone is on our schedule- JULY 2024- I think I posted that the day she said what day it's out! LOL and yes OCTOBER 1 I'm posting it here. BUT if I have your address I am mailing little schedules........ if I ever get out of the house to get stamps. I am glad we have retained our health. Hopefully I don't still get it! But I think I am in the clear by now! 3mo
TheBookHippie @vlwelser HA!!!! Somehow waaaaay back in the day I got on Simones early email out and I got notice before she posted it on IG that a new book was coming and when and immediately put it on our schedule. 3mo
DebinHawaii We have to like October‘s book right?! The whole bad things in threes theory?! LSATGH made my best of list last year so I am disappointed about this one & the fact I used a #BOTM credit for it! But I can‘t wait for the 2024 list!!! (And more Simone of course!) 🤗 3mo
TheBookHippie @DebinHawaii HAVE TOOO!!!! and I used one of my last credits too for this! UGHHHH. I am so very disappointed. 3mo
Sparklemn It is very disappointing. I'll keep going with you as long as I can take it! 3mo
mollyrotondo 😂 I love everyone‘s comments! I also loved Golden Hotel and did not expect this one to be such a dud. It seems so off the rails and the characters are just not as interesting and intriguing as GH. I rooted for people in that book. This one ehh. I will say I like it more than Messy Lives and of course the book I always hate on, The Book of Two Ways. But this one is just disappointing after Golden Hotel. 3mo
mollyrotondo Can‘t wait for Simone! 3mo
TheBookHippie @mollyrotondo I‘m just shook. What are we reading 😵‍💫😵‍💫😵‍💫😵‍💫. This author has fallen off the rails 🫣🤦🏻‍♀️ 3mo
TheBookHippie @mollyrotondo OMG 🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️ 3mo
mollyrotondo @TheBookHippie I know! This must be what they call a “trunk novel” where she started it, put it away because it wasn‘t working, needed another book for the publisher, and grabbed this from the trunk, and said this will have to do in a pinch. Nowhere near GH. 3mo
TheBookHippie @mollyrotondo that is it EXACTLY 🤦🏻‍♀️ 3mo
Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick Not to be a stickler, but they mention a few things as being from high school, but they are anachronistic. Titanic wasn't released until December 1997. Armageddon, & thus Aerosmith's I Don't Wanna Miss a Thing, was released in 1998, & The DaVinci Code wasn't published until 2003. I enjoy the nostalgia of the time, but I can't relate to these women, nor do I see them in my friend group. I'll continue, but I'll likely pass this along to a frenemy. 2mo
TheBookHippie @Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick and Princess Di died in August long after graduation I caught a lot of incorrect info 🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️ 2mo

TheBookHippie @AmyG hoping for a good Suki story 🤞🏻 3mo
vonnie862 I'm waiting for Suki's POV 3mo
TheBookHippie @vonnie862 ME TOO!!!! 3mo
vlwelser Also hoping for a good Suki story. 3mo
DebinHawaii I too am waiting for Suki‘s story & hoping I don‘t dislike her as much as the others! 😆 3mo
Sparklemn @DebinHawaii Ugh...a book where all the characters are unlikable. Hopefully Suki is better. 3mo
mollyrotondo Suki is such a mystery because the whole “real” moments we‘ve been given glimpses of is her as a teenager kissing Tara and her yelling at her staff while on the phone with her three best friends. We don‘t know much else about her personally. I am very interested in finding out what her life is like from her own perspective. I hate Melissa and Tara. Priya I still like I just hate that she hasn‘t found her voice in her marriage. 3mo
Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick I wonder if the donor no one remembers is a sort of social experiment, and he's not the true donor but an actor. I want to know more about Suki. I think the obviously wealthy Connecticut enclave is what makes this story not hit right with the majority. They're out of touch with wealthy people problems. Also, hearing about the app in depth, it doesn't sound all that groundbreaking. Who's reading magazines in 2023 that they're scanning pics in? 2mo

vonnie862 Oh man...memories 3mo
vlwelser Fun. But that seems like an 80s thing. Or we were over it by hs. 3mo
TheBookHippie @vlwelser 🤷🏻‍♀️ I‘ve never played and don‘t remember anyone in detention playing either …. We did have Cootie Catchers 🤣😵‍💫 3mo
See All 8 Comments
DebinHawaii I vaguely remember this from the 80s iat middle school sleepovers. 🤷🏻‍♀️ 3mo
Karisa We used to play this all the time. 😂 3mo
mollyrotondo I don‘t know this game at all lol I remember the cootie catcher or we just called it a fortune teller with the folded paper. 3mo
Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick I did this more in the late 80s as a child. There was always a mansion, a Porsche, and a hobo. I also remember the similar game with the little finge 2mo
Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick ... finger box thing where you opened the flaps. As a kid, I wanted the mansion. As an adult, I'm not cleaning all that space! 🤣 2mo

TheBookHippie @vonnie862 @vlwelser eating this now as I read our comments 🤣♥️ 3mo
DebinHawaii Okay, now I am craving grilled cheese! 🤤 3mo
TheBookHippie @DebinHawaii Hit the spot today! 3mo
Sparklemn I had a a great one yesterday with sliced avocado plus three types of cheese. Not my work...eating out. 3mo
Karisa @Sparklemn Sounds so good! 3mo
mollyrotondo @Sparklemn I also recently had a delicious grilled cheese with avocado and multiple cheeses at a restaurant near me. Uhh I just want grilled cheese now 🤤 3mo
Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick I rarely eat it but it's tasty with tomato bisque soup. I have a recipe saved to make grilled cheese but with a spinach & artichoke dip. I haven't tried it yet, but sounds delicious. 2mo

Man she needs boundaries and a Babysitter or Nanny or maid or all three...
(**And Melissa was an absolute bitch to her woe- unreal Melissa counting raisins-?ugh**)
Her mother-in-law pops by and just takes over?! (-Oh hellill no. -)
Her husbands question about a diverse woman? Are you serious?!
Also sex with a teacher?!

mcctrish Priya‘s choices seem routed ( like Tara‘s) with parents who enforced gender role stereotypes and family expectations and it‘s heartbreaking. Dev has a relaxation night? I‘d be screaming, literally in his face “ you can relax when you are dead because I am going to kill you right now if you do not start helping me!” This has happened irl in my home and I do not have nearly as much shit going on as Priya 3mo
TheBookHippie @mcctrish 💯💯💯💯 it‘s happened here too. I have extra large trash bags and the joke is that‘s where you all are going if ya don‘t STEP UP 😵‍💫. 3mo
IndoorDame @mcctrish @TheBookHippie YES!!! I don‘t think I ever wanted to throw this book as much as when I saw ‘relaxation night‘! I‘d be all for it if their life was under control and he wasn‘t taking advantage of her but as is Hell No!! And their life could be under control. This is a couple that can afford outside help in addition to Dev and the kids stepping up. 3mo
See All 23 Comments
IndoorDame The teacher thing actually makes sense for 97, but I can‘t figure out the point of including it in the story except maybe that it helps explain why she allows herself to be treated so poorly. 3mo
TheBookHippie @IndoorDame 🤷🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️ it‘s a bit much. 3mo
kspenmoll These women‘s lives are such wrecks. @mcctrish you are making me laugh! My responses are brief because this is my third day postop from rotor cuff surgery repairing a tendon tear and some other shoulder stuff, so I am a little out of it. 3mo
mcctrish Oh @kspenmoll I hope your recovery goes speedy and you feel like yourself again fast #imayellerwhenigetoverwhelmed 3mo
mcctrish @IndoorDame seriously! Where are the helpers?! And not passive aggressive MIL 😡 3mo
AmyG @kspenmoll Feel better. Not an easy surgery but one day at a time-you‘ll be good as new! Yeah, these women are a hot mess. So much high school drama spilling into their present lives. Absurd. (edited) 3mo
TheBookHippie @kspenmoll sending healing vibes and love! 3mo
IndoorDame @kspenmoll take it easy. I hope recovery goes well. 3mo
vonnie862 This would totally annoy me. Boundaries! 3mo
vlwelser Poor Priya. She needs to get her shit together. A nanny would be a great start. 3mo
DebinHawaii @kspenmoll Ouch! Hope you feel better soon & things heal quickly. 3mo
DebinHawaii Yeah “relaxation night” put me over! 🤬And I agree—I don‘t get why with their two salaries they can‘t get a nanny or some help in. 3mo
TheBookHippie @DebinHawaii EXACTLY!! HIRE HELP!!! Good grief...... 3mo
TheDaysGoBy @kspenmoll Heal fast and take it easy! 3mo
Sparklemn @kspenmoll I wish you speedy healing! 3mo
Karisa Oh jeez, when you lost it all like that Priya‘s not so likable either… 😬😂 She‘s a doctor for goodness sake. She can hire some help if her husband is that much of a man-child (but honestly even with him chipping in, some help with the kids/house would be warranted) 3mo
mollyrotondo @kspenmoll I hope you are resting and I wish you a speedy recovery! 3mo
mollyrotondo Dev gets worse and worse. No wonder he‘s a man child. His mother baby‘s him. He has a “relaxation” night with his other idiot male friends. Give me a break 🙄 and has to handle all duties while he literally just has a job? No. The whole sleeping with a teacher thing just gives her a weird sexual experience story like the rest of her friends. 3mo
Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick Dev sucks. If my husband ever thought he could have a relaxation night and I didn't get one, he had better sleep with one eye open. They're both prominent doctors... they can afford help. I think Priya's spinelessness regarding her MIL might be cultural. As for sleeping with a teacher...🙄 At least he was fresh out of school and not 50. Did I pick up on the illusion that Suki took the blame? 2mo
TheBookHippie @Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick yup Suki took the blame! 2mo

Tara's dad - the building with his name coming down ...
So W weird ..
Her father Let Her Go? To the reunion?! LET?!?!
Hiding her sexuality ?!
Her kiss with Suki in high school.
At the reunion Evan thinking she was an ESCORT?! What?! Porn pics?
I like Rachel and I think I like her better than Tara does..

mcctrish Why have these women not grown up? Why does Priya not tell Dev to man up and help ? Melissa can watch you tube and learn how to fix things and I bet you her daughter would help! Rachel is going to get dumped because Tara won‘t admit to herself what she really wants which should start with therapy to help her actually deal with Rickie, new boobs didn‘t help 3mo
TheBookHippie @mcctrish 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 3mo
IndoorDame The whole mess with her dad sucks, but I get that manipulative parents get 10x harder to deal with when there‘s money involved. But her personal life! 🤦‍♀️ Suki was one kiss 25 years ago. Who cares!? And Rachel is awesome and has great ideas for the business, and she‘s so dismissive to her. She should break up with her if she‘s that indifferent. 3mo
See All 15 Comments
TheBookHippie @IndoorDame Poor Rachel!!! I agree one kiss decades ago! LET IT GO. 3mo
kspenmoll Rachel seems to be the only same person in the book 3mo
AmyG Hahahaha…you are all spot on. These women are kind of a mess. Yes, Rachel is the only decent one here…probably because she wasn‘t in their class. 3mo
vonnie862 I agree with all of you. Rachel sounds smart. She won't stick around too long if Tara doesn't shape up. 3mo
vlwelser More Rachel. Less of these other fools pls. 3mo
DebinHawaii Yeah, I hope either Tara smartens up or Rachel gets out of that relationship! 3mo
TheBookHippie @DebinHawaii Our RUNCONNIERUN is now RUNRACHELRUN ... 3mo
TheDaysGoBy I was so mad when it seemed like Rachel was maybe gonna hook up with Evan before he showed his true colors. I was sitting there like, “she‘s in a relationship. She‘s not allowed to play around at the reunion and pretend like she‘s not”. So weird. What is up with these women? 3mo
TheBookHippie @TheDaysGoBy All I can think of is the author is going through something … 🤷🏻‍♀️ 3mo
Sparklemn @TheBookHippie This made me laugh...could be true...something has to explain this mess. 3mo
mollyrotondo I like Rachel as well. She needs to start her own business away from Tara or go work for that Kitchen Cuties or whatever that rival company is called. Tara is not a nice person. She was going to cheat on Rachel with her ex boyfriend from High School!!! How sick is that? And she‘s hung up on another girl (a best friend) who she kissed once in High School 😵‍💫 she needs a lot of self reflection and Rachel needs to peace out. Not a Tara fan. 3mo
Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick Tara is a trust fund baby. I guess Rachel gets to relax a little when Tara has a dad that'll funnel money their way. Tara is way too hung up on one kiss 25 years ago. Did Suki have magical lips? Did she ever tell Suki how she feels? I how Rachel finds happiness with someone who appreciates her. 2mo

Bathroom wall scribbles about
Melissa's daughter
Who Melissa is fixated on being popular?! What?!

mcctrish Nobody wants to read about their child, good or bad, in the bathroom but why is high school still so important to Melissa? I had a high school experience in high school and then I had a uni experience in uni and then I‘ve had some life experience doing life. Maybe I‘m the weirdo ? But move on people. It‘s not like they peaked in high school, why the fixation? 3mo
TheBookHippie @mcctrish I know people like this but I don‘t get it 🤷🏻‍♀️. The fixation is nuts. 3mo
mcctrish @TheBookHippie the reunion sounded fun, I loved the touches. The only reunion I‘ve gone to is my husbands, we live in the city he grew up in and I know a lot of people he went to school with cuz they stayed here too. It seemed like everyone mixed with everyone ( it was not a specific year reunion) 3mo
See All 17 Comments
TheBookHippie @mcctrish I avoid it like the plague 🤣🤦🏻‍♀️ and it‘s ppl too. And I agree I had a horrific school experience some life stuff too, these women are stuck and so immature and in their 40s?!?! Really? 3mo
IndoorDame Honestly, when she freaked enough to cover it up I thought the graffiti had to be WAY worse, something Cam would‘ve been super hurt or embarrassed to see when she came back to school, and I went back to see if I was wrong about what it said… but she was just being infuriatingly self involved as usual. (edited) 3mo
TheBookHippie @IndoorDame my thoughts exactly.. 3mo
kspenmoll @mcctrish you the weirdo?!! never! 3mo
mcctrish @kspenmoll I‘m okay flying a freak flag 🤷🏻‍♀️if it means I‘m not as stupid as these people 🤣🤣 3mo
AmyG I went to one reunion, my first. The good looking guys were either bald or gained alot of weight. Guys who never gave me the time of day were hitting on me. I never went to another one. The people who loved high school seem like the ones who can‘t “let it go”. (edited) 3mo
TheBookHippie @mcctrish 💯💯💯flying the flags!! 3mo
TheBookHippie @AmyG yup. That‘s it exactly. No thank you. 3mo
mcctrish @AmyG 😬😬 3mo
vlwelser The poor daughter. 3mo
DebinHawaii I definitely feel sorry for the daughter! 3mo
Sparklemn The daughter does seem like she's just living her life being herself. Melissa is a disaster. 3mo
mollyrotondo Melissa is infuriating. She wants her daughter to have the same experience she had in high school because Melissa doesn‘t have much going on that she loves right now. She‘s obsessing over her kid‘s high school experience instead of making a change in her own life. She‘s an annoying character lol 3mo
Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick @mollyrotondo The kicker to me is that it doesn't seem like The Most Likely Club was all that popular. Melissa, more than all of them, seems like high school is when she peaked. I how Cam can overcome her overbearing mother and thrive. Melissa puts way too much stock into the high school experience. 2mo

The ex of Melissa's new wife comes as Pretty Woman
Julia Roberts…and let me get this straight
A Threesome got them all here...
Melissa fixed up Josh to look better -got him in a threesome and lost him to the girl she picked?!?

Book throw 🤦🏻‍♀️

mcctrish When I read this part I said “ what the actual fuck is this book?” Out loud. In my head I said “ how is this the same author as Golden? How is this being used to explain how they moved apart? How is this even something I am reading right now” “ I did not throw but I walked away for a long time 3mo
TheBookHippie @mcctrish HOW IS THIS THE SAME AUTHOR?! 3mo

IndoorDame This made me so angry at the author! 3mo
TheBookHippie @IndoorDame 💯🤦🏻‍♀️ 3mo
kspenmoll Now this was a huge shock and unexpected explanation for them separating just way too weird and yes I agree with how was it the same author and how ridiculous it is to explain how they moved apart , etc @mcctrish @TheBookHippie 3mo
mcctrish @kspenmoll seriously the lamest bizarre excuse ever WTF 3mo
AmyG Hahahaha…exactly. That was a bit unnecessary….and “out there”. 3mo
vonnie862 This scene reminded me of Friends where Ross learns his wife is a lesbian. 3mo
Deblovestoread Can‘t believe this is the same author! So problematic in so many ways… 3mo
TheBookHippie @vonnie862 oh good call!!! 3mo
TheBookHippie @Deblovestoread I‘m shocked. 3mo
vlwelser How is this the same author? So disappointing. 3mo
TheBookHippie @vlwelser HONESTLY?!?! What the world?! 3mo
DebinHawaii Yeah, I am pretty disappointed with the author right now & pretty damn sure I will never be rooting for Melissa. She is an idiot! 🙄 3mo
DebinHawaii But I did always love that red dress! 💃🏻 3mo
TheBookHippie @DebinHawaii I feel the same on both counts and I do love that dress as well! I think I liked all her dresses in this movie! 3mo
TheDaysGoBy Love Pretty Woman! But seriously what is up with Melissa? And the author has done absolutely nothing to make us as the reader sympathetic to her. How is she still so fixated on such meaningless things at her age? I‘m only in my 30s and I already care less what people think and according to my parents that feeling grows the older you get 😂 3mo
TheBookHippie @TheDaysGoBy I think that‘s what I‘m having the most trouble with they are in their 40s!!!!! Grow UP! 😵‍💫 3mo
Sparklemn @TheDaysGoBy It does grow. And for me it really revved up in my late 40s. Best feeling ever! 3mo
Karisa This author needs a better editor. Is the goal to get us all to not like Melissa? WTH 🤦🏻‍♀️ (Book throw moment for sure—well, most of the reunion scenes were 🤢) 3mo
mollyrotondo @mcctrish I also said to myself, “what is this book?” 😂 I definitely blame Melissa for this debacle. Three weeks of no sex and you get worried enough to suggest a threesome with your yoga instructor? And then wonder why he wants to just have sex with your younger yoga instructor? Melissa is so unsymmetrical. This whole thing felt so out of left field. I can only imagine it‘s here to show how insecure Melissa has been and needs to overcome. 3mo
mollyrotondo Btw the ex husband is still a jerk. 3mo
Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick This reveal cracked me up, because of course this hot mess that is Melissa would think the answer to a floundering relationship is a threesome with her yoga instructor. You always pick someone a little less than you! (I say from common sense, not from experience) 2mo

TheBookHippie @DebinHawaii I cannot tell you how glad I am........ I missed them unless my daughter was into it -but she was a bit too young for most of it. (9) 3mo
mollyrotondo So glad you two aren‘t horribly sick!!! 3mo
mollyrotondo I was 7 in 1997 so I was into Delia‘s, Backstreet Boys, *NSYNC, Beanie Babies, butterfly hair clips lol but didn‘t get into the Doc Martens until I was in high school so mid 2000s. I started with Converse 😂 but I loved the punk/goth look and still throw a splash of it into my wardrobe in the winter months lol I‘m all bright colors in summer 😂 3mo

Candle in the wind song

vonnie862 The song didn't make me cry but I do remember how big of a deal her death was. 3mo

DebinHawaii @vonnie862 I want to see it! How was it? 3mo
vonnie862 @DebinHawaii It was ok. It was kinda of cheesy but it did have heart. The first one will continue to be the best one. 3mo
TheBookHippie @vonnie862 It is on my list to watch- I love those cheesy movies when I'm in a mood!!! 3mo
TheBookHippie @vlwelser I was at work, raising a kid, dealing with a lot of BS -so I don't have much memory from these years other than that. 3mo

Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick I watched Justin and JC on the Mickey Mouse Club, but wasn't all that into NSYNC. I think they had a hit that year, but I don't think they blew up until after 97. The friends decide to change ... their lives...
as they have drinks before the reunion ...
And get high afterwards

I don‘t begrudge either activity this just read a tad childish 🙃🫣

kspenmoll Childish is a good word- I am disappointed in this book I really did like the previous one bed together 3mo
vonnie862 I'm just happy that they came up with a plan to change their lives. Let's see if they stuck to it. 3mo
TheBookHippie @vonnie862 I do hope so!!! 3mo

vlwelser I'm hoping they stick to the plan. 3mo
DebinHawaii Hopefully it will improve their characters & lives but I have my doubts! 🤷🏻‍♀️ 3mo
TheBookHippie @DebinHawaii ME TOO!!! I am so so upset. WE so loved her other book!! 3mo
TheDaysGoBy I was surprised it took so long to get to this point. I get the author was trying to introduce us to the characters and let us get to know them but I‘d expected the book to just start here and be more about their journey. But I‘m also not a big fan of large time jumps for no reason. And that big setup with Tara‘s dad telling her she couldn‘t go for it to be glossed over in a sentence? That‘s why I hate time jumps 3mo
TheBookHippie @TheDaysGoBy Oh I so agree!!! It was waaay to jumpy! 3mo
Karisa 😂 That post image 👏👏👏 3mo
Karisa @TheDaysGoBy I agree. It‘s uneven in pacing. Combined with the character jumps it doesn‘t flow as well. Yes to the Tara‘s dad thing. Priya saying yes to the job all the sudden felt like that too. 3mo
mollyrotondo @TheDaysGoBy me too! I also thought it was going to be about their journey. I thought chapter one would be reunion or the women getting together for dinner, reminding their most likely stamps, and trying to reach those goals before going to their next reunion. Not this midway through the book let‘s slap this together kind of reveal. They are so childish! 3mo
Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick I'm going to quote the great Jeff Buckley here: "Too young to hold on, too old to just break free and run". These ladies are in full-on mid-life crisis mode. I get wanting to course correct your life, or shift your goals, or even change the trajectory. It sucks that they seem to have just let shit happen for far too long. Smoking weed might've been a little cliche, but maybe the most realistic thing they've done so far. 2mo
TheBookHippie @Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick 😅💯💯💯💯💯 I agree. Sheesh 2mo

See All 9 Comments
vlwelser Meh. This wasn't my favorite time period maybe. 3mo
DebinHawaii I was really busy working & traveling in 1997 so none of these is that inspiring. (I did like Rent though). I did see Cats on Broadway in 1982 with my high school drama group. 😉🐈‍⬛🐈🐈‍⬛ 3mo
Karisa I was in college and working full time to support myself. It feels like I was out of the loop during the late ‘90s. 3mo
Sparklemn @IndoorDame Rent was everything! it was the early days of Liz Phair for me. (edited) 3mo
mollyrotondo None of these inspired me lol it‘s possible I saw Annie on Broadway in 1997 but that might have been 1996. It was my first Broadway show and definitely got me into liking Broadway shows but I like darker ones now like Blood Brothers and American Psycho the mush 😂 but I was reading A LOT back then and watching Nickelodeon, Disney channel, and WB 😆 3mo
Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick I was opposite from @vlwelser . The mid 90s were my jam. I read lots of fashion magazines, but still leaned comfy causing; watched MTV, and was big into pop culture of the time. It was the golden era of supermodels. (Christy snagged Ed Burns & I could listen to his voice forever.) I saw Rent with the original cast in '96, and there was something about it that just felt so special. TheDaysGoBy @TheBookHippie The vanity in this is overwhelming. Obviously there are people like that for sure but it all seems kinda shallow and does nothing for helping me to like these characters 3mo
Karisa I just can‘t imagine. How would someone get this done that fast while running a business? How does one just get parents to pay for such a thing? How would she be better so fast? 3mo
mollyrotondo @Karisa I also wondered this! There‘s no way she wouldn‘t be sore and they‘d sort of look a mess from the bruising and everything. But this boob job thing was another out of left field problem. Tara needs to get her business on track. Why is she stressing about her boobs? It‘s so ridiculous 3mo
Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick It looks like some get back to light duty a week after breast augmentation. Did I read that she had staff? I guess it's plausible that even if it was 2-3 weeks, she could pull it off. Maybe stressing about her boobs gave her something to focus on other than her failure to launch. I am someone who cares about her looks, so I can nitpick my body, but I choose to not dwell on it and try to focus on what I can do, not how I look. 2mo

Tara dressed as Uma pulp fiction
Priya dressed as clueless
What would you dress as? For 1997

kspenmoll Well in 1997 I had a three year old and was not really paying attention to fashion. I didn‘t go back to work till he was four so I imagine that I was in sweats a lot. 3mo
TheBookHippie @kspenmoll 🤣💯 I had 9 year old and was working nights nursing or sleeping -so scrubs or pjs 🤣 3mo
vonnie862 I was 11 in 1997 and the Selena movie came out that year. I probably would have dressed like her. 3mo
See All 14 Comments
TheBookHippie @vonnie862 oh my daughter LOVED that movie. 3mo
vlwelser Definitely Clueless if I had to go back and pick something now. 3mo
DebinHawaii 1) Would not have gone 2) Definitely would not have dressed up. 🤷🏻‍♀️😆 3mo
TheDaysGoBy In 1997 I was 8/9 years old and Anastasia came out that year. I was obsessed with that movie so I‘d dress like her. But not the big ball gown. Probably that blue dress she wore and learned to waltz with Dmitri in 3mo
Karisa It‘d be cozy grunge ala Cobain (though he died in 1994, so not really 1997 person…). Flannels, jeans, doc martins 3mo
Sparklemn @Karisa That's still what I wear...although t-shirts, not flannels. 3mo
mollyrotondo So in 1997 I was a child so I‘m nostalgic for Nickelodeon shows like Space Cases lol I‘d dress as Catalina with the rainbow hair 😆 https://www.google.com/search?q=space+cases&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&hl=en&client=safar... 3mo
Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick This is my time to shine! 🤣 I'm class of 97 & worked at Contempo Casuals at the time. Because I was wearing wide leg jeans, fitted tops, flannel, and slayer sneakers back then, I'd go a little more glam now. Chunky shoes a must! Maybe 2 space buns because my hair is thick. Influences either Clueless, slip dresses a la Courtney Love, or a column dress with contrasting color block stripes. Stripes were huge. 2mo
Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick Later that year, Ally McBeal came out, and there was a strange trend toward a business-like mini skirt with a blouse & blazer. I might need to see if it's streaming to revisit the fashion (and Gil Bellows). 2mo
TheBookHippie @Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick OMG SPACE BUNS 🤣🤣🤣🎉🎉 2mo
Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick I have very thick hair. One bun would be gigantic and rival a beehive. 🤣 2mo

-weight AGAIN and how she did it…seriously ?!
Well at least she made her goal weight …?!?!?!
so not right…so dangerous
Her thoughts about her daughter
Hungarian balabosta & goulash ?! EXCUSE ME?!
Kelly‘s influence on Cam?
Going to run to be Mayor?

IndoorDame I can‘t with her! 🙄 I‘m really hoping Kelly‘s influence will be enough to keep Cam from being completely screwed up by her mom‘s constant digs. 3mo
TheBookHippie @IndoorDame it‘s so abusive that poor girl!!!! 3mo
kspenmoll @IndoorDame @TheBookHippie I agree with you both. I am glad she has Kelly in her life. Very sad. 3mo

vonnie862 Yes, Melissa may be seen as abusive. However, she is sick. Weight is a big deal to some people, and unfortunately it's not healthy. I've witness a few moms before that they instill their unhealthy weight believes onto their children. These women need help. 3mo
TheBookHippie @vonnie862 I agree she is sick. It is still abuse. I hope Melissa seeks help in this storyline she needs it on multiple fronts and must be in so much pain. 3mo
vlwelser She needs some more self confidence or something. I'm not a fan of this character. 3mo
DebinHawaii Definitely don‘t like her & it‘s hard to drum up any sympathy for her at this point. The damage she is doing both to herself & especially her daughter makes me angry! 😡 3mo
TheDaysGoBy @DebinHawaii Agreed. It‘s pretty hard to find anything I actually like in her character 3mo
Karisa @DebinHawaii 💯% Melissa is giving me this reaction too. It‘s just too much. Torturing herself and her daughter with her need for “perfection” and control (edited) 3mo
mollyrotondo Uhh when someone was talking about her daughter at one point (I think it was Priya) Melissa immediately put words in her mouth and blurted out “do you think Cam is fat?” I was like who talks about their daughter like that? And Priya says that she‘s a normal weight for her age and height. Melissa is out of control. And her running for mayor now? Her storyline is all over the place. 3mo
TheBookHippie @mollyrotondo 😵‍💫😵‍💫😵‍💫😵‍💫😵‍💫😵‍💫😵‍💫😵‍💫😵‍💫😵‍💫😵‍💫😵‍💫😵‍💫😵‍💫😵‍💫😵‍💫😵‍💫😵‍💫😵‍💫😵‍💫😵‍💫😵‍💫😵‍💫😵‍💫😵‍💫😵‍💫😵‍💫😵‍💫😵‍💫😵‍💫😵‍💫 3mo
mollyrotondo @TheBookHippie Melissa makes me dizzy 😵‍💫 (edited) 3mo
Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick I try to view Melissa as sick. I could understand that if she has an eating disorder & body dismorphia, why she's projecting into her daughter, not that it's right. But it sounds like she's not even overweight, so why hasn't Priya stepped in more concerned. Cam might still have some puberty chub, or just be a normal healthy, curvy young lady. I hope dad and Kelly are forced for good here. Melissa needs a therapist. 2mo

25 years out these peeps still acting like they‘re in high school ?!
Or these are the stereotype I have of people stuck in high school and going to reunions because they believe high school was the best years of their life….

IndoorDame I can‘t speak from personal experience never having been to a reunion, but I assume lots of people who‘ve grown up into lovely productive adults do attend… our characters just ain‘t them. They‘re very much the perpetually stuck at 16 people who always have me wondering if high school was ideal or traumatic for them that they got stuck there. 3mo
TheBookHippie @IndoorDame They are definitely STUCK. whew… 3mo
kspenmoll It‘s still hard for me to like any of them and yes they are totally stuck. Still 16. 3mo
See All 11 Comments
TheBookHippie @kspenmoll still 16… 3mo
vonnie862 Sadly, many people don't grow up and still act as if they are in high school. 3mo
vlwelser It would suck if high school was your best thing. 3mo
TheBookHippie @vlwelser @DebinHawaii I cannot imagine even thinking HS was the best thing of your life........WTF?! 3mo
Karisa @kspenmoll Yes, they are all acting like they‘re 16! I‘m having a tough time caring about any of the characters. I just can‘t connect. Maybe Priya is the only one that‘s ok. The high school stuff is just too much 3mo
mollyrotondo @Karisa I agree about Priya. I feel like Priya is the only one dealing with adult problems like what to do with a big useless husband and three kids and her career. Melissa is totally stuck in high school and has always been looking back. Tara is hung up on Suki from a high school kiss moment and just doesn‘t seem like a nice person. 3mo
Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick I could buy Tara acting young, since she doesn't have kids and seems to be a 43 year old trust fund baby, but the other two need to grow, not just grow up. My class was about 200 people, not everyone fit in & would go, but we had 10 & 25 year reunions. Many of us went to grade school together, too. It was great to see how we grew & changed. (Facebook helps) Sadly, it seems like everyone in the book is still just a more polished teenager. 2mo

#SUNDAYBUDDYREAD the eating disorder prose is way over the top

As is sexual assault harassment and assault of a minor 😵‍💫 https://www.rainn.org/

Triggers every other page. I would have never guessed in a fluff book.

Please everyone do what‘s right for you. DNF is necessary sometimes.

Now on to our discussion 💕
If you need to stop reading please do.
