J Robert Lennon‘s backlist is still rewarding. This is an outstanding collection of very short stories (most are 2 pages) that manage to pack a punch nevertheless. I keep repeating myself but he really is such a clever and entertaining writer!

Ruthiella This is why reading book prize lists is rewarding! Finding new favorite authors. 👍 10mo
BarbaraBB @Ruthiella So true! I‘ve found many authors I‘d never heard of before! 10mo

Stanley has recently lost his father. Jessie works in a bar. One day these to meet. Before they know it they are traveling across Europe together in Jessie‘s old car.

I love Evaristo‘s writing and how she mixes prose and poetry. I loved Sanley‘s connection to the past and how that made it possible for us to learn more about the places they visit.

7th book for #SuperSeptember

A friend came to the Library Book Sale to find this book. Alas,no copy to be had. I said,”I have a copy that I can lend you”. Since it was #TBR on my shelves, I decided to read it first. I am glad that I did. The writing pulled me in, and did not let go. My plan had been to read a book by her to honor her recent death. My friend‘s request made it happen. #weremember #2005 #192025

This is the second book in Stross's Merchant Princes series, which was nominated for a 2022 Hugo Best Series award. It's a low pick for me. There are weaknesses but I enjoyed it more than the first book and like it enough to continue the series.

This is my #BookSpin choice for July. #BookSpinBingo @TheAromaofBooks

It also fills my #2005 slot for the #192025 challenge. @Librarybelle

The Aosawa Murders | Riku Onda

A slowly unraveling story about a murder that took place years ago and was never resolved. Different people remember the tragedy and share their point of view. The plot and the twist aren‘t that mindblowing but I can read such Japanese books anytime, just for their setting.

Deep sadness and grief are familiar to everyone, the feelings that everyone has experienced, but yet these are the same emotions that isolate us from others. Sad, intimate story about loss and isolation …

Cinfhen Wonderful choice 😍 beautiful review 2y
Simona @Cinfhen Thanks 😊 I think so too - that this was a great choice for the first book of the year. 2y

Librarybelle Such a great choice! 2y
Simona @Librarybelle Thank you, I‘m pleased with my choice too 😘 2y
BarbaraTheBibliophage This book addresses such a difficult topic and Didion does a beautiful job. I pick a copy up to share every time I see one in a used book shop. Sadly, there are always people who can relate. 2y
Simona @BarbaraTheBibliophage Sadly, yes … and I can see how comforting this book could be. 2y

Cedricsmom Ohhhh this one. The movie absolutely destroys me every time I watch it. Definitely better than the book. 6y
TheBee @Cedricsmom I haven‘t seen it. Wanted to give it some time after finishing the book. But will definitely watch it some day! 😉 6y
