Finish Telling Tales and Witches
Continue Tess
Rain and cats and a good book. (It‘s supposed to be summer, beaches, boats and books here though!)
I inhaled this one in 24 hours which hardly ever happens. I love how Cleeves gives you so many well developed characters each with secrets - I suspected EVERYONE. 😂😂 Loving Vera; this is the second book in the series.
Some of my mystery TBR on the “primary” bookcase.
After finishing the Shetland series I was excited to start on the Vera books as everyone told me it was the series they preferred. Then I didn‘t love the first book. I picked up this book with markedly less enthusiasm but enjoyed it so much more. The decade old murder of a teenage girl is reopened and Vera must launch her own investigation. Plenty of small town secrets and twists. My appreciation for Vera has grown.
10 years after being convicted of killing her lover's teenaged daughter, Jeannie Long commits suicide, just a few days b4 evidence proving her innocence comes to light. Vera re-investigates the case to find out what led the police astray and who was really guilty.
Nice and twisty. The author misled me into thinking that one character must be guilty even though I didn't want it to be that person. TV Vera is a much toned down version of Book Vera.
I'm starting "Telling Tales" and then depending on how long that takes I will read either "Hidden Depths" or "Last Night in Montreal" .

I am so hooked on Ann Cleeves‘ books. This is an interesting mystery that was really hard to put down. I did not figure out the killer. I had it all wrong. And that‘s the genius of the author. Definitely recommend. As good as the Vera tv shows are, the book are even better.
With the first front of the year having come through last night, I‘ve brought my book outside for the first time since May. With the breeze and lower humidity, it‘s perfect reading weather.
I realized that I hadn‘t posted the book I picked up after bailing on my previous read. This is the second Vera mystery that I‘ve read, and I find it interesting how much of the story so far has focused on other characters and how little on Vera. Of course, I‘m hearing her dialogue in Brenda Blethyn‘s voice 😂
I just adore Vera!!!
My reading of the Vera series continues with this, the second of the series and, wow, it was excellent. A great deal of the book was told from the vantage of characters other than Vera, but seeing her through the eyes of others was revealing and compelling. Truth is, as a 50-something woman myself I identify with Vera, especially with the tendency of others in her orbit to underestimate her. I hope I‘m always underestimated too. Lol ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Second in series, I read the first forever a go and just hadn‘t gone back. Glad I did though, think I‘m going to enjoy Vera!
One of our local PBS stations is showing Vera on Thursday night. I realized that I had never read any of the Stanhope mysteries. Started with this, the first, and thoroughly enjoyed the story.
After spending 4-5 hours redoing my bookcases last weekend, I had a few books to take to the used bookstore for credit. Naturally, I used all of my credit in one trip, even though I have NO space on my shelves for new books. #bookhaul #sorrynotsorry #noselfcontrol #ilovevera
I know I can get some sympathy from you guys. I want to, no need to, read all these books right now! Why am I not five people, so I could do it right now? Oh, the tragedies of being a reader 😂🤪
An easy four stars. Felt faster than the first book, possibly because Vera is an established character. Loved that James was a harbour pilot -- yay boats!
Calories don't count at the holidays, right? Enjoying this book with hot chocolate and enjoying a week off work 😊

A quick read before I go out... hot but I have a fan going on the porch. Finishing a book I began in July before I tackle August TBR and #MakeMeReadIt
So good! Honestly, I was guessing until the last five pages. That is excellent writing. Can‘t wait to read the next book in the series. 🛥🛥🛥🛥

At Bertram‘s Hotel for the win?!
Every book I‘ve read lately references The Dame. I‘ll have to pick up something of hers next.
Just chilling‘ with my villains this frosty morning/afternoon. Really starting to make some headway in this novel.

Just started the second book in the Vera Stanhope series. I get so happy when Vera makes her appearances...always loud and in Birkenstocks.
