So I thought this week would be easier but work is still kicking my butt & I‘m three days behind in haikus. This one for Tuesday is inspired by the picture I took waiting for takeoff to Hilo last week.

Next to my porch in my garden while I was reading, a monarch butterfly visited my bee balm & milkweed! My neighbor has seen monarchs, & yellow & black swallowtails. When I stopped by for a chat, I had the privilege of seeing all three visit her garden. 🦋

Always learn new things. I took up keeping bees, so I need to know about bees and their behavior. This allows me to be a better steward of the hives I care for.

tpixie Thanks for taking care of bees 🐝🖤💛🖤 8mo

#12booksof2024 @Andrew65
My April reading was reduced as I started the books of jacob which was ridiculously big. This was a Christmas present and a brilliant story of a beekeeper in a Ukraine town bombed to the extent that only he, a personal riva, and his bees remain. I had only read death and the penguin before so I definitely need to read more kurkov soon.

Andrew65 This sounds excellent. 11mo
sarahbarnes I still haven‘t finished Books of Jacob - I‘m about halfway through. 😳 11mo

3.5⭐️ Was a #bookclub selection for May that I was unable to get to, but managed to read it now and I really enjoyed it. It has some dark elements to the story, but I thought it was quite good and glad that I was able to read it. #2024 #contemporary #fiction #bookreview

I think a tasty bagel sandwich with smoked salmon & caper-dill cream cheese with honey-mint lemonade shared with a friend outside in a tiny city garden counts as a #Picnic 🧺🍋🌱🍯🐝💛

That scene in the tagged book inspired me several years ago for my virtual foodie book club.

In a small town in the Donbas, 2 remaining residents, Sergeyich + Pashka, frenemies, live a codependent life as bombing between russia + ukraine rains over them.Summer arrives + S drives his beehive south to find somewhere for his bees to pollinate, with curious encounters along the way. Set after 2014, this is a gentle but darkly profound bk given the current war. Sergeyich is a remarkable character+his response to life make a compelling story⬇️

andrew61 In his 2020 introduction kurov concludes ' I hope the war leaves the residents of the grey zone alone,....and that the honey made by the bees of the donbas loses its bitter after taste of gunpowder' . His 2022 intro ' we must defend our independence, our freedom. We cannot capitulate'. 2y
