BookwormAHN I loved The Long Walk 🖤 And I'm still on the waite list for The Stand audiobook. 4d
BarkingMadRead @BookwormAHN I haven‘t read Long Walk in decades, I can‘t wait! I‘m still reading the Stand (for the gazillionth time) I‘ll be finishing mid April at this point 🤣 4d
AllDebooks I started The Long Walk in December but bailed as found it troubling and non-festive. 😅 I'll go back to it as I do want to know the outcome. 2d
BarkingMadRead @AllDebooks definitely not festive 🤣 2d

The Stand Vol. 4: Hardcases | Stephen King, Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa

Pickpick

The groups start to arrive in Boulder and Las Vegas. New relationships form as old bonds strain. I am reminded of a bit from comedian Lee Camp: Evil people have plans. Good people don't have plans. They want to live their lives in peace and enjoy themselves. Well, the evil people here are crucifying rule breakers and gathering weapons while the good guys are trying to build a coalition by committee.

Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick Well, that video is certainly correct. Sadly, I just want to be around good people, easy good food, and meet ALL the dogs. 1w

Laughing because this is the bookmark that came up in my mug, it‘s from a romance author at a book con I went to a couple years ago. Not so sure doctor romance could handle Captain Trips 🤣 #losersclub #StephenKing #StephenKingInOrder #KingFromTheBeginning #ConstantReader #ReadAlong #BuddyRead #BookDiscussion

Stand - Volume 1: Captain Trips | Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa

Pickpick

Volume 1&2 of the graphic novel adaptation of The Stand.
I'm actually impressed at how well the story is paced so far. For example, they don't waste a lot of pages on Nick's time as deputy, but they leave space for scenes like Lloyd's prison time and the Lincoln Tunnel to breathe. The artist is the same that recently underwhelmed me with heavy lines and thick shadows in The Bat-Man First Knight, and he's still not my favorite, but it happens.

Welcome to the #LosersClub open discussion for #nightshift
Please be mindful of spoilers. We have new readers to King who haven‘t read all of his books. When referencing his other work, please keep this in mind for our new-to-King friends. Don‘t forget to tag each other in the comments so your friends can see your reply. Have fun!

Bookwormjillk It was fun to revisit his earlier stories and see him start to play with some of his longer books and themes. My dad had the version with the eyeball hand on the cover when I was a kid and I always had nightmares about it. Also Children if the Corn was a sleepover favorite so yay for nostalgia. 3w
AllDebooks I enjoyed this collection. As @Bookwormjillk said, it's fun seeing the formation of his longer works. Children of the corn was so creepy. X 3w

TieDyeDude I was surprised to see him flirt with sci-fi with I Am the Doorway. He doesn't seem to play in that sandbox too often. I liked the "bad deal" stories, Quitters Inc, The Ledge, Lawnmower Man. Lawnmower, Trucks, and Mangler were pretty silly ? I found Last Rung ? maybe the most memorable. It had an aching sweetness to it, but I seem to like unrequited/unreciprocated love stories for some reason... 3w
BarkingMadRead @alldebooks children of the corn has always creeped me out! The movie is so messed up! @TieDyeDude yes! Mangler was so silly at the end 🤣 3w
Balibee146 Oh I love that edition. I didn't pick up Night Shift last month sadly but I do like it as a collection. I really enjoy King short stories 😍 3w
LoverOfLearning Just recently started reading SK! Long list of books to read 😩 3w
kwmg40 I enjoyed these stories, especially because, as @Bookwormjillk mentioned, we can see themes that King expands on in future books. Like several of you here, I too found Children of the Corn very creepy. 3w
Karkar A little late to the party. This is one of my favorite of SK‘s short story collections. So many great ones in this book! 2w

BarkingMadRead @5feet.of.fury it‘s my favorite book of all time, it‘s so epic! 1mo
kwmg40 I'm not sure if, like @BarkingMadRead, I'd call this my favourite book of all time (though I can certainly appreciate readers making that argument) but it's definitely my favourite of the Stephen King books I've read. I'm looking forward to the reread. 1mo

The Dead Zone | Stephen King

Pickpick

This is our February selection for the Constant Reader book club. I‘ve watched the original 1983 movie adaptation multiple times and first read the book in 2015 as an audiobook. This time, I decided to read my physical copy. I thoroughly enjoyed reading it again and liked it better the second time.

Soscha Is Constant Readers a local or online club? Just curious, behind one indeed! 1mo
LoverOfLearning Finally read my first ever Steven King bookm Started with Misery was pretty good! Any recommendations for my next read by him? 1mo

NatalieR @LoverOfLearning Misery was my first King book too! 😃 Glad you liked it. The Shining is one of my favorites. 1mo
Soscha An online King Constant Reader group is doing the second Dark Tower book. I‘ve not read the first yet though. 😓 1mo
sarahbarnes I liked this one too when I read it. He has some really good ones. 1mo
LoverOfLearning @NatalieR that's funny! 💯 love that. That's a long book huh! Maybe I'll read it ! 1mo
NatalieR @Soscha The Dark Tower series is quite a commitment. The first book was tough for me to get through. The rest were really good though. 1mo
NatalieR @LoverOfLearning It‘s not too long. It‘s engaging and suspenseful. 🤓 1mo
Soscha I read the Dead Zone some time ago. It‘s logged on my Goodreads but I didn‘t leave a written review. Is this the one with an insane POTUS candidate? Damn good but way too close to reality at this point in history, if I may say. 1mo
NatalieR @Soscha 😅 Yep, that‘s it! While reading it, I kept thinking how It‘s VERY close to our reality. 1mo

The Shining | Stephen King

King famously disliked the film adaptation of The Shining. Having seen the movie several times, I guess I can see his dissatisfaction, but I think Kubrick did a good job. The book is different enough that I got well caught up in the suspense. Very good #constantreader #losersclub

BarkingMadRead The movie is really good, the miniseries is closer to the book, but not nearly as good! I‘ve also noticed that whenever King is involved, the movies tend to be a little campy. When he‘s not, they are way creepier, and way better IMO 2mo
