Bookwormjillk I loved this one as a teen. I used to sit with my friend Amy trying to set things on fire with our minds for hours. It was the super power I most wanted to have when I was about 13. I still liked it on this re-read, but I thought the middle dragged a bit. Not a bad ending for King.

Also I think the first season of Stranger Things owes this book a lot! 1w

AllDebooks @Bookwormjillk yes, I found it a similar premise to ST. I loved the story and characters. I found it quite gripping in places. 1w

5feet.of.fury It‘s kind of smack between Carrie and The Institute both plotwise and character/scifi focussed. This was my first read of it, I just think it‘s neat 1w

TieDyeDude @5feet.of.fury I found I liked this more than Carrie. I don't remember The Institute enough to compare. But, yes, it was just really neat. As much as I love when he takes the time to build a town and it's inhabitants, with this and The Shining, I'm liking his more narrowly focused stories. 5d

My favorite part of reading this was during “Rattlesnakes“: one line after thinking of the Tell-Tale Heart, Vic says “this isn't the Tell-Tale Pram.“ ? Some stories in this collection were obviously less developed, but I can't say I disliked any of them. “The Answer Man“ and “Danny Coughlin“ were absolutely brilliant, “The Fifth Step“ got a good laugh out of me at the end. Themes of luck (or lack-there-of), destiny, and aging. #constantreader

Bookwormjillk I‘m still working on The Dark Half which I read accidentally last month. Then I have the new one and this which both came in from the library at the same time. It‘s going to be a King filled month. Not complaining because to me Stephen King=Summer reading. 1mo

bekakins This is one of my absolute faves! I used to have a hardback omnibus of The Eyes of the Dragon & Firestarter and it was proper comfort reading for me whenever I was off sick from school 1mo

TieDyeDude I listened to this on audio, narrated by James Franco. It was a tough listen because Franco sounded completely uninterested. I really enjoyed the foreshadowing used by King, like the seemingly random lightning rod salesman. It was a long road to get to the events of the conclusion, but I loved the ride. I'd like to re-read a physical copy in the future; I feel like I'd like it even more without Franco's droning... 1mo

Bklover This is one of my favorites. Not sure why, except I remember reading it when it first came out. I loved it then, (I was 19), and I still reread it occasionally. It still holds up as one of my favorites. 1mo

kwmg40 Like @TieDyeDude, I disliked James Franco's narration, but otherwise I loved the story, and it really is hard not to think about today's political situation while reading this book. 1mo

kwmg40 After finishing the book, I immediately watched the 1983 adaptation, which I thought was very good. My only complaint is that it was so condensed. All the plot elements were there (with some minor changes) but so many details that contributed to the character development were cut. 1mo
