Norovirus is rife in our part of the UK and I feel rubbish today with nausea 😬
So will be reading this and looking at my smallest cat who has stolen the large dog bed.

This was a comforting, cosy read which was what I needed. Perhaps a little stronger in its first half than the second but gentle and heartwarming.

While the world enters its Rats Fighting In A Sack publically era, I am getting back into my favourite Litsy challenges and buddy reads to try and cope.
First up is a re read of Making Money for #OokBookClub with @julesG (discussion starts 7th March).
Also my second time reading The Stand for the #LosersClub with @BarkingMadRead
I first read The Stand in February 2020 so I'm forming a habit of turning to it in, ahem, "interesting times"
#kobo
Jumping back into this fun challenge after a break. For me it has now changed to #readyourkobo
This is my list for March 2025, wonder which will come up in the draw @CBee

Book haul alert. None of these are the single book I was allowing myself this year lol....using an unexpected gift card for these cancels that out right?
I have a soft spot for YA horror lol. Quickly reading this before it gets donated to the school used book fair.
Current read reflecting on the financial aspects of a life well lived. I'm glad it acknowledged very early on that globally a privileged few actually have disposable income with which they could take on board his viewpoint.
Already this is starting to feel like a lot of padding to get his central idea to book length though.....i think this will be a skim read.
I picked up Blood Over Bright Haven on publication day.... And still it sits unloved on my shelves.... So that's a perfect reason to pick up this earlier book by the author instead.... Right?? 🤷🤦
Reading via Amazon Prime subscription. There are lots of neurodivergent people in the family including my two young people. One seems sensory seeking and the other is avoidant and their sensory processing seems very easily overloaded.
The writing style on this is a bit clunky to me, but no matter as interested in what the author had to say.
My concerns about the newer version of this book were unfounded. The sections about the concerning cosy relationships between industry and scientists / regulators in the UK is at the end of the book alongside a new section on what happened after the hardback was published.
Recommended read - non-judgmental, compassionate and wide ranging.
Trying this short story today.
🤞 because I wasn't especially fond of Annihilation. I'm just finishing up various reads I have via Amazon before I get rid of my Kindle.... Plus my Prime subscription has all year to run so I will access the occasional amazon read until it expires.
Revisiting this in the eBook form. It now has an additional chapter detailing what happened with Big Food after the initial hardback publication which I'm looking forward to.
I don't have the original hardback now but I'm sure the earlier chapters have quite a lot of structural change. Notably a large early section which detailed the problematic closeness of food researchers to industry funding.

New baby alert lol!
I have been considering a move away from Kindle and the Amazon walled garden for a while.
Then I read that the newest Kindles that came out a few months ago had quietly removed the ability to readily download books to PC, from which users are then able to port them to the eReader they choose.
More importantly, though I'm in the UK, I am sickened by the actions of 🍊 and his billionaires and voting with my feet.
Hey long time no post!
I'm still reading but I changed phone and without the app available in the Play store for android I forget to come on.
Sure I kept a screenshot somewhere of a way to sideload the app 🤷
Anyway been back weight training since November and I found this on my shelves. I have no memory of where or when I got it. Not sure if it will be a bit Bro Science for me - the cover does not look promising - but in I go to find out!
Still ignoring all my part read novels for non fiction on #kindle.
Christmas shopping season seems to have triggered my anti consumerist mindset lol.
This is the 3rd edition from 2014. Still has plenty of relevance but will be behind the ever increasing curve, given the horrors of Tik Tok shop, Stanley Cup frenzy etc
This is a fantastic read. Using the UK context it examines mental health from a sociopolitical and economic context. It is critical of the shift made during the Thatcher era to all cause medicalisation and depoliticising, shifting to centre responsibility for mental distress on to the individual. Big Pharma and their cosy and close ties with regulatory bodies are also covered.
Interviews a range of fascinating contributers.
#readyourkindle November was a mixed bag for me. Two bails, one finished and one I'm still reading (having a mini slump with fiction right now).
@CBee
Part way through a re read for this month's Losers Club but I don't think I will be finished until early December.
Next month the read is short though (Rage) so will get caught up again 🤘

A low pick for me. Easy to read and digest but felt a bit surface level to me. A useful bullet point summary at the end which is super quick and easy to reference.
Read on #kindle
Bailing at about 120 pages.... I may return when my mood is lighter but I'm not reading much this week because I don't want to read this right now.
#readyourkindle @CBee
Insomnia alert ⚠️
Sleep Not Found 🙄
4 am emergency #readyourkindle new title started. Inadvisable cup of tea also accessed ☕😜
@CBee
I am switching to the fourth book for #10beforetheend this weekend.
The Underground Railroad has been fantastic so far and deeply moving, but I just can't with any more white supremacist filth this week, even in a book like this. 💔💔 I will return to it soon.
@ChaoticMissAdventures
Bailed at 50 pages. Super creepy striking idea but the writing style is not for me and a quick look at reviews for the rest of the trilogy looks like the resolution is patchy.
#readyourkindle @CBee
Next #readyourkindle for this month. Another #kindleunlimited title I've had kicking about.
@CBee
Low pick crime procedural and my first completed for #readyourkindle this month. This is a first of 3 so far all on #kindleunlimited and I may give the second one a go.
CW for extreme sexual violence. Also several sex scenes attempting to be explicit but fairly pedestrian.
@CBee
My heart goes out to all of you in the US and elsewhere who are still reeling 💔💔
Word lovers will appreciate Susie Dent.
Have to switch away from my physical book as it gets dark.
Starting this #kindleunlimited read tonight - one of my #readyourkindle choices
@Cbee
I took my time over this and enjoyed it hugely. A slight dip in the middle for me - maybe just a little bit bloated and drawn out - but Atkinson remains one of my favourite authors.
My #readyourkindle selections for this month. Lol just realised I switched nos 5 and 19.....oooops 😜
Hoping I can get to all of these @CBee
October 2024 reading wrap up. Enjoyed almost everything this month, with one major dud that was a bail.
#slowreader
Here is my November list for #readyourkindle
I'd love to read all four of the chosen numbers if I can.
Well... I'd love to read all 20 but that's not likely as I am a #slowreader
@CBee
3 out of 4 for the October #readyourkindle ain't bad!
I can't read The Winter of The Witch until I've completed the previous books in the series - Doh! 🤦
#kindle
@CBee
Spotted this on a random and otherwise somewhat depressing social media scroll....
Third book for this month for #readyourkindle
Okay this book was frustrating. It is older then I realised so no doubt some research has moved on significantly. At times fascinating, at times subtly patriarchal (mostly he's progressive) and occasionally preachy.
As a carer for someone with dementia the very detailed breakdown into subsections of the 7 stages of it was sadly super accurate and informative I suspect of what to expect next.
@CBee
I got to page 120 but I have to bail.
This started off somewhat intruiging but it is oddly lacking in substance... The "weirdness" just feels vague and kind of trite. I'm so bored, I'm out!
Sadly this was Book 2 of my #10beforetheend
@ChaoticMissAdventures
Next up and this has been on my shelves untouched for far too long.
This is a #buddyread and is the October choice by the #literarycrew
@Librarybelle
A couple of #99ponkindle deals available today.
Picked both of these up after watching a recent YouTube video from CriminOlly https://youtu.be/C1Zq3Rf6Q0I?si=QcjwC7cjX9WYeI40
Next up from my October #readyourkindle choices.
I just realised this book was published in 2010 so it may be a skim read or a bail depending.
@CBee
This started as a So-So for me and I laboured to get through the first 50%....then the writing and the narrative came alive and it finished really strong. So a low pick overall but with high hopes for the next book in the trilogy.
#kindle
This is just a low pick for me, though I am years over the target age range for this.
Nice easy, flowing writing style and felt like a YA version of the movie What Lies Beneath.
Could have shaved the length a bit and that would have made the narrative a bit tighter. I guessed the surprise character reveal very early but that's okay.
Book 2 for #10beforetheend
It's so stormy and dark in Central Scotland this morning, so I need #abookandacuppa
@ChaoticMissAdventures
Book no 1 from my #10beforetheend picks.
This was gearing up to be a pick but I found a couple of the latter chapters sketchy and sadly lacking. Still enjoyed the earlier chapters on media moguls which is clearly where O'Brien has the most knowledge and experience
@ChaoticMissAdventures
I don't post much off-book content but my reading is about to get compromised as season 2 of The Devil's Hour is finally out today. Highly recommend.
I loved the first season and loved Peter Capaldi since Local Hero and seeing him and his brilliant wife Elaine Collins in The Tom and Sammy Jo Show at the Glasgow Tron Theatre in the 80s.... Plus I don't care what anyone says, 12 was my favourite 😉
Next physical book - on Fridays I like to have a quick, easy and hopefully entertaining read I can whizz through on the go!
These are my planned reads for today.
I am also fighting to resist temptation of a colour eReader now #kindle have released one.... I'm more tempted by a Boox or Kobo device still...but trying to hold out as sure the tech will improve with further iterations.
