Ariadne Oliver is planning a murder mystery game for a fete and feeling the situation is being manipulated calls on Poirot for help.

Despite the setting being based on Christie's own house and Ariadne Oliver being a self-insert, this story feels rather perfunctory and doesn't stand out.

Reading the background information on Styles. A few weeks ago I bought the new „Poirot“ by Aldrigde only to realize I have an older version of this kind of background info book by Anne Hart already on my bookshelf. 🙈🙈🙈 Okay, this way I can check out the development of the Agatha Christie research from 1990 to 2022. 😜 #offtheshelf

This was pretty cool- especially the way the truth is uncovered toward the end - it wasn‘t what you‘d expect in a Poirot.

Short Review: This was an odd Poirot book for me, he doesn't appear for the first few chapters & when he does he seems to be more of a side character to Katherine Grey. The mystery itself was textbook Christie but it just didn't seem to work as well as some of her other books. I think the problem for me is that I just didn't like Katherine Grey. Don't know why, just didn't. 3.5🌟

TWs: racism/xenophobia, internalised misogyny.

willaful I seem to recall this was Christie's *least* favorite of her own books. 1mo

I finished another Poriot murder mystery. This time the point of view wasn‘t the one of Hastings, but the one of Katherine. She does have her own suspicions, even though she does not have all the information of Poirot. But in the end she comes to the same conclusion on her own - without Poirot. 😂

Poirot's admirably efficient secretary is thrown off her stride by the strange goings-on in the hostel managed by her sister. Poirot agrees to investigate.

Perhaps I wasn't paying as much attention as I should have been doing but I don't understand how the rucksack business actually worked in practice or why the green ink was spilt.

Ruthiella It‘s been far too long since I read it, so I can‘t recall if the solution worked for me. I did like how this humanized Miss Lemon, though. 4mo

While not my favorite Poirot, this one does involve Mrs. Oliver (although not nearly enough of her haha). I still haven't decided whether or not the ending is a bit of a cheat. Soft pick.
