I love the angels and demons thing, and this multi-perspective novel was great for that. I did think some of the plot points were a little unnecessary and didn't tie into the end, but it still had me captivated cover to cover!

There had been times, over the past millennium, when he'd felt like sending a message back Below saying, Look, we may as well give up right now, we might as well shut down Dis and Pandemonium and everywhere and move up here, there's nothing we can do to them that they don't do themselves and they do things we've never even thought of, often involving electrodes. They've got what we lack. They've got imagination. And electricity, of course.

This is my 100th book for the year. I‘m so excited by that because I‘ve never hit 100 before! Thanks to reading a few shorter books I expect 😂

This is a funny satire based around the Apocalypse. Bright and intelligent and razor sharp, but written in the kind of easy language usually aimed at a younger audience - plus it has loads of heart. I haven‘t read much Gaiman or any Pratchett but I suspect those are hallmarks of their craft. 🌟🌟🌟🌟

BarkingMadRun I just finished this book tonight! 1mo

CarolynM Great book for this time of the year, well anytime really. I still get the giggles when I think of Crowley getting satanic messages in Kylie Minogue's voice, or the hound of hell morphing into a little shaggy dog, or the professions of the four horsemen of the apocalypse or... (I'll stop there, enough's enough😂) 1mo

There‘s this awesome small business called the Nite Owl Workshop that comes to the Lexington comic con. These are her newest creations, & I want them so much! But, I don‘t have $ right now. ☹️ thought I‘d share though because she makes all kinds of geeky plushes—LOTR, superheroes, Doctor Who, etc. I have a Watson, & my friend has Sherlock (don‘t think she makes those anymore). Check it out on Etsy.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ On my first attempt a couple of years ago, I bailed quickly. But after watching, and loving, the series with my husband, I wanted to try again. Aziraphale (angel) and Crowley (demon) should be enemies, but instead, are like an old married couple. I love them. This is a zany take on the apocalypse while being thematically interesting: free will, nature vs nurture, good vs evil, and in between. Wholly entertaining; FABULOUS on audio.

Scochrane26 I need to finish the series, but I love the book. 1mo

This was an amusing and witty read. There were some slow parts in the middle where I was wondering what the point was with certain characters and scenes, but it all came together at the end.

Haven't really been reading lately, so I picked up Good Omens again and came across this gem: "Churches? What good did they ever do? They'm just as bad. Same line o' business, nearly. You can't trust them to stamp out the Evil One, 'cos if they did, they'd be out o' that line o' business."

wanderinglynn @Leftcoastzen No, no! 😉 It‘s a happy place. I‘ve even been to their brick & mortar store in St. Louis—as good as walking into a bookstore. And really, their monthly subscription is quite reasonable. (I *might* be a puzzle 🧩 enabler 😂) 2mo

wanderinglynn @TheAromaofBooks I‘m on the standard plan, which means I get one 1000-piece puzzle every month. If I don‘t like the one they select, I can swap it out. I‘ve been a member for 3 years now. And they have fantastic customer service. And if you buy any other puzzles that month, you can opt to have them ship with your monthly one so no shipping. Here‘s more details: https://www.puzzlewarehouse.com/puzzle-of-the-month-club-details/ 2mo

"Then he'd tried believing in the Universe, which seemed sound enough until he'd innocently started reading new books with words like Chaos and Time and Quantum in the titles. He'd found that even the people whose job of work was, so to speak, the Universe, didn't really believe in it and were actually quite proud of not knowing what it really was or even if it could theoretically exist. To Newt's straightforward mind this was intolerable."

Firstly, God moves in extremely mysterious, not to say, circuitous ways. God does not play dice with the universe; He plays an ineffable game of His own devising, which might be compared, from the perspective of any of the other players [i.e., everybody.] to being involved in an obscure and complex version of poker in a pitch-dark room, with blank cards, for infinite stakes, with a Dealer who won‘t tell you the rules, and who smiles all the time.

Reread. Light yet intelligent. Laugh out loud funny. Feel good without being insipid. The Hitchhiker's Guide of Armageddon. Pratchett & Gaiman match up perfectly - like roasted red bell peppers and goat cheese. One of my all time favorites. First time with the audio version and enjoyed the narration.

After watching the Prime series recently I enjoyed my re read of the original book. It is of its time in some places, but mostly charmingly so. Some lovely extra pieces about the collaboration from both writers and some great pics in this series tie in edition..... I'm sure the pic of them is supposed to echo with the series image (Sheen and Tennant were both perfect in their roles)

May elaborate in a #readathon wrap up post, but briefly: @brandybear22 reading the prologue of my required reading to me while I moped crampily; Dark Matter, which I listened to for the 21 min it takes to gets to B‘s house from mine; the license plate in front of me when I left home to go to B‘s; KitchenAid‘s bullshit ravioli maker attachment; and oysters from my CSA that may have saved the weekend, really.
