My Heyer loving friend brought this one and The Nonesuch to our last book group meeting for me to borrow. This is an early one, and I think it shows, but I had a thoroughly good time with it any way. I found French polished Philip very amusing indeed.

mabell I just read this one and didn‘t care for it (the time period and French influence was interesting though!) It‘s been quite a few years since I read it, but I really enjoyed the Nonesuch. 3w
batsy Those vintage Pan editions! 😍 3w
LeahBergen Not a favourite of mine either but still a fun read. They all are! 😄 3w

Mehso-so

This was not my favorite Heyer. It was a bit too silly at times. And I have learned that I want to like the female protagonist in a Heyer novel - I want to root for her and see her happy - and I just wasn‘t a fan of Cleone.
@mabell @Chrissyreadit @TheAromaofBooks

Chrissyreadit Fair!!! 3w
TheAromaofBooks Cleone just didn't get much page time?? I never really rooted for her and Phillip as a couple because I felt like we never saw them together. 3w
julieclair @TheAromaofBooks That‘s true. This book was really more about Philip, and the transformation she required him to undergo. 3w
mabell Yes, I really just wanted Philip to be happy 😆 3w

This was not my favorite Heyer- but a lot of that is because I do not speak French and was too tired to use google translate. The story was a Grease in reverse- and I liked the overall end result. Everyone wants Phillip to change- but when he does they realize the original was better.

mabell I didn‘t care for this one much at all 😆 3w
Chrissyreadit @mabell i was annoyed in parts and entertained in parts… 3w
CindyMyLifeIsLit I loved how he got revenge for their hurtful dissatisfaction with his authentic self. Be careful what you wish for! 😂 3w

TheAromaofBooks I think part of the problem is I set kind of high standards for Heyer, and this book didn't meet them 😂 It was fine as a random book, but didn't rank well on the Heyer scale!! 😆 3w
Chrissyreadit @CindyMyLifeIsLit I agree- that was the part i liked- 3w
Chrissyreadit @TheAromaofBooks I agree- this felt “sloppy” to me. 3w
julieclair “Grease in reverse” is the perfect way to describe this. I did like that his authentic self won out in the end. 3w

@Chrissyreadit @TheAromaofBooks @mabell I‘m not very far into this month‘s #HappyFiction book yet, but I‘ve lost track of our discussion. Are we doing it on StoryGraph, or did we decide to do something else? 🤪

mabell So relatable 🤣 🙋‍♀️ It‘s on Storygraph this time https://app.thestorygraph.com/readalongs/a8095fe9-5674-45f7-9ab6-b5a10cd41f2f 3w
julieclair @mabell Thank you! Glad you can relate! 🤪 3w
TheAromaofBooks In the final section of Powder & Patch I did post the link to the April SG discussion for Wind in the Willows, too!! @mabell @Chrissyreadit (edited) 3w

julieclair @TheAromaofBooks 👍👍 So excited for Wind in the Willows! Would you believe I‘ve never read it? 3w
TheAromaofBooks It's been years since I have read it, but I remember thinking it was super sweet and adorable. I'm really excited about rereading it, and since it starts with Mole abandoning his spring cleaning because the weather is so nice, it seems like a good read for this time of year 😂 3w
julieclair @TheAromaofBooks Abandoning Spring cleaning? I‘m a Mole fan already! 🤩 3w

I‘m posting one book a day from my massive collection. No description, no reason for why I want to read it (some I‘ve had so long I don‘t even remember why!). Feel free to join in!

Just look what my lovely colleague, who first alerted me to Georgette Heyer, gifted me today. She bought this 1965 edition online. It had no dust cover and has some slight damage (a name cut out of the title page). She photocopied the dust cover from her own rare edition and put it on this one! So thoughtful 🥰. Book people are the best. 📚🙏❤️

Balibee146 That's so cool 1mo

CarolynM How lovely! This is one of the Heyer‘s my friend leant to me. I WILL get around to it one day…😆 1mo

Ok, stop the press everyone! I got my hands on my first Georgette Heyer. A little after dinner wander lead me into an Elizabeth‘s 2nd hand bookshop, and here she is. Let‘s see how I go. #newtomeauthor #currentlyreading

CarolynM Looking forward to your reaction. I wonder whether the Heyer aficionados think this is a good one? @LeahBergen @mabell 1mo
mabell @CarolynM Grand Sophy is still waiting for me on my shelf, but I‘ve heard it‘s a fun one! (Unsurprisingly!) Enjoy @MrsMalaprop ! 1mo
LeahBergen Yay!! This is the first Heyer that I read, too. I hope you like it! 🤞 1mo

MrsMalaprop @CarolynM @LeahBergen @mabell Thank you. I am meeting tomorrow with the colleague who initially piqued my interest to see what she thinks of this one as a starting point. She kind of said I could start with any. Although I think she specifically mentioned (edited) 1mo
Rissreads I‘m intrigued to see if it‘s to your liking! If you like it chances are I will! 1mo
Jeg I‘ll be very very interested to hear what you think. Those sort of books have never appealed to me. Mind you I have never tried one of hers. 1mo

I can‘t believe this is the last installment in #TheRegencyVowsSeries! At long last, the focus turns to Sophie and West. Though seven years earlier, they nearly wed, lately they‘ve been circling one another uncertainty. But when Sophie learns that her sister is hesitant to remarry, leaving Sophie single, she decides the best thing to do is fake an engagement! The truth of the past comes out & an epilogue leaves the series feeling neatly concluded!
