#Read2925

I think this is my final review of May, completed last week for #FictionalTraveler #SpanishSpeaking & the 6th of my #Roll100 picks for May (#4: Any BOTM). I‘ve put off reviewing it because I‘m still not sure how I feel about it. It‘s a quiet book about grief, depression & finding your life. Ruth leaves her job in NYC for a lake town in Guatemala, a place she felt most real in when she was there years before. It sort of meanders, ⬇️

DebinHawaii …which made me restless but there is a stark beauty in the writing. I think the challenge to me is I never felt close to Ruth‘s character or the characters in the relationships she formed with two different women. I did like the scenes set around Ruth‘s experiences as an expat & overall, I give it a soft pick. This was a #BOTM early release & doesn‘t publish elsewhere until July. 2w

I was disappointed with this one, it felt a little messy. Also, I chose it as my choice for this month‘s #FictionalTraveler, #SpanishSpeaking, but being set in a rambling old Manor House owned by an English family, there was little sense of place.

Book 42/60 #Read2025 @DieAReader

@julieclair

TheBookgeekFrau I'm currently reading this, less than 100 pages to go. I was really enjoying it up to the "big explanation"?? But Francis is building my hopes for a good ending ???? 2w

Enchanted_Bibliophile I'm halfway through, and on the fence about continuing... 2w

julieclair Good review. This one has been on my TBR for awhile, but after reading all the comments, I may just decide to give it a pass. 2w
TheEllieMo @julieclair I always worry of someone decides to not read something I didn‘t like, because we‘re all different and you might love it! I love gothic novels but I do like them to have an edge of reality to them, this one felt a bit far-fetched to me personally. 2w
TheEllieMo @TheBookgeekFrau irrespective of what may or may not happen in the last 100 pages, Francis is definitely the most likeable character, more so even than Noemí, who came across as rather too arrogant for my liking! 2w
julieclair @TheEllieMo I worry about the same thing when I write a review. On the other hand, reviews are so helpful in deciding how to prioritize our never-ending TBRs. 😘 2w

Another cool read by Claudia Piñeiro! This one is about feminism, flies and fumigation and I loved it even though I figured out the twist early one. I loved the characters and their dialogues. The plot is great and a real pageturner. I absolutely continue reading Piñeiro‘s backlist now!

Thanks for sending me this one Trish, you were right that I would love it ?

#FictionalTraveler #SpanishSpeaking ??

TrishB Glad you enjoyed it 👍🏻 she‘s such a clever writer. 1mo

For May‘s #FictionalTraveler #SpanishSpeaking prompt, I will be traveling to Ecuador. Where will everyone else be traveling? Have you ever been to that location in real life? I have never been to Ecuador. 🇪🇨

BarkingMadRead I‘m going to Mexico! I‘ve been there a couple of times, but only on cruises. 1mo
Cuilin #BookedInTime this month is the Spanish Civil War, so I‘m guessing I‘m off to Sunny Spain. I‘ve been to the Canary Islands, Gerona and Malaga. I would absolutely love to see more of the country. 1mo
